Any of the Advance Wars games are very good. Remember you can play the AW for GameBoy Advance also. So you have several to choose from. You do not have to play them in order to be able to play the latest. AW DOR.

Don't believe Gamespot's low score for Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. It's a lot better than they say. and if you can, buy both games, they both have their ups and downs (but mostly ups, of course :D)

Any of the Advance Wars titles are a good starting place. Age of Empires is pretty worthy as another turn-based strategy. SInce you can play GameBoy Advanced games on the DS i'd recommend getting one called Rebelstar. I think it's made by some of the same people who brought us UFO. There's also a Warhammer 40,000 TBS which isn't very well made but still worth it for turn-based junkies. ANNO: 1701 is an excellent real time strategy which focuses on colonising islands, budgeting resources and keeping your settlers happy. It's a lot better than Simcity DS which unfortunately was pretty terrible in my opinion.

All of the advance wars games are good. If you do happen to see any then I wholeheartedly reccomend you get them as they are timeless pieces of gaming. Wifi on Days of Ruin deffinitely adds life to the series too.
