[QUOTE="Generic_Dude"]The controller... the Wiimote is, IMO, gimmicky and is more of a liability to the console than an asset. I think it's going to end up with too many lousy party games and remakes and not enough great, story-driven games. I really didn't like what they did with the Zelda controls... the bow and slingshot aiming was cool, but overall I'm still weighing getting the GC version and ditching the Wii version.
Other than that, it's not powerful enough... I feel like I'm still playing a Gamecube. In fact, the Wii games don't look as good as Gamecube games. I like Super Paper Mario well enough, but you've got to admit that Paper Mario 2 was a lot more attractive visually. And the Virtual Console's pricing structure is completely out-of-touch with the market. Yes, I suppose people are paying it but just because you CAN do something, that doesn't mean you SHOULD. And they'd get higher sales if their games were priced more reasonably. $10 is far too much for an N64 ROM. But none of this would be an issue if we could get some new games on here. The third party support has been there, but it has been pitiful... and Nintendo's games are just the same ideas repeated over and over again.
I suppose I'd change a lot about the Wii, really. I don't like the controller, it would've benefitted from more power, VC is overpriced and the game selection is very poor. I feel as though this could've been much more, and that Nintendo is alienating their loyal fanbase to generate a larger, if different, one. And I don't think that's a wise business move, particularly since getting non-gamers to play games is tricky, but getting them to become gamers is next to impossible... and I don't think Nintendo can do it with this machine.
Flame away, but that's just my opinion... I'm supposed to be entitled to it, though I know the Wii boards operate a little differently.

Nice post, and I agree with pretty much everything you say. I work at a Gamestop, and everyday we get so many people looking for Wiis either in store or calling on the phone, and I think they are way into the idea of getting one because they don't realize exactly what it is, but just because everyone else is rushing to get it as well as being a "Nintendo" system.
Does the Wii as a whole have potential? You bet it does.  Is the actual hardware inside worth $250? No. Is the current line up of rushed out crap worth the time to play? Mostly not, except for a noteable few. One can continue to have faith in Nintendo finally pulling through with great stuff (I'm expecting Metroid 3, Mario Galaxy, and Smash Bros to be awesome), but for me I've been so dissapointed with everything, and I use my Wii purely for playing Gamecube games at the moment, which not to mention some look better than anything on the Wii software line up, which is a complete joke.

I mean it all counts on taste on video games. I own 7 wii games and would proboly own more if I had more $ at this moment fact is I dont. You can see what games I own by my wii game tag I just havent added paper mario.ALso I would like to ask what GC games you play? I mean if your playing games that came out later in the GC life cycle then you cant really call it a joke. I mean sometimes it takes a while for some devs to use the system right. The thing I dont understand is if you have so many problems with the wii why did you buy one? I mean if I could change something it would be add more space and I guess channels thats about it. Since iv seen what the wii can do ala SMG I have no problem with the graphix. I love the wii-mote it feels new and different.
I bought a Wii to have a system to play Gamecube games on, as well as being excited for the line up of Wii games. And man was I dissapointed by the likes of Red Steel and Medal of Honor: Vanguard. Other titles were decent to fun, but nothing that was really suiting my interest, especially FPS. Although being a graphical piece of crap, Far Cry: Vengence actually was fun and had great controls. My hopes are high for future titles though like Super Smash Bros: Brawl, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Super Mario Galaxy as well as No More Heroes. There is alot of potential but I as well as not-child gamers will not be impressed by CGI movie games and games based on cartoons. Gamers will want more fleshed out content. You can't just shut gamers out just to make a system accessible to non-gamers, you need to cater to all. And right now it's not about catering to either it seems, but just making cheap games to sell.
Just think how cool Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry would be to play on Wii.......or even a Metal Gear-esque game. The potential is there, but we need developers and publishers who want to produce great games outside of a notable few.
Oh about my GC stuff. I bought a GC a year and a half ago, but I had only a couple games on it before selling it. Honestly the only reason I bought it was for Resident Evil 4, and along with that I got Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. I had a great time with both, especially RE4, beating and mastering it plus the Ada Wong level and time attack levels.
Now that I got a Wii, I decided to get my hands on many of the great titles that I missed including getting RE4 again, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Super Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Geist, and some others. I haven't spent too much time with the GC games since I got them accept playing RE4 again and Metroid Prime 1, but I'll get to them. Â
memory should of been done better, more of it, external devices, etc. and a ban for half-a$$ed ports from certain companies...
grfx are okay now and wil improve over time.
i think channels will get an update where VC games are grouped by platform not individually.
online will hopefully get the kinks worked out soon.
the controllers are fine for me, they work great.Â

I would have to agree with both statements that you both said. No i'm just kidding i'm actually just editing the quotes to see if you can do it, no hard feelings guys. Anyways about improvements i would like better graphics and online capability from the start i mean seriously sony and xbox has online capability 1 gen ago, l mean come on nintendo. Other than that i love the ingenuity and innovation of the wii. Remember the gamecube wasn't spectacular at graphics either but it still made games like RE4. So im not really concerned about graphics so much right now, sure better graphics would be better but meh. I would like a internal memory too.

When properly developed for the GC could put out some amazing stuff, but Nintendo purposely developed the GC to be easy to develope and program for and boy did the lazy devs ever take advantage of that. A very sad, sad life for the GC, but what was good on the GC certainly was great.......you can't deny that. Â
I would have suggested a way to play old game boy games or added a way to insert a DS cartridge and allow games to be played with the controller. Course, to do that you would basically have to attach the Wii-mote to the classic controller and keep it pointed at the screen, but for the sake of convenience you would get a DS picture on a big screen, much like Game Boy converters of old.
Also I would have preferred a wireless TID and a way to synch the Wii-mote to your TV so you could surf without needing two controllers.Â
graphics power about 4 to 5 times more powerful than it is now, more internal memory space like 10 to 20 gigs, and NO FREAKING FRIEND CODES.bukato
Yeah I sort of agree but I still think that the graphics are pretty good.
Sure graphics is the first thing that comes to mind but I'm still having tons of fun with the Wii even without the graphics being drop dead gorgeous CGI quality blah blah blah...
But really asof now I just want to be able to find time to play it...
Just a tad bit more storage space and RAM... that would make the Wii optimal. I fear they're gonna run into some issues once people realize they've filled up their Wii's disk space and can't download more stuff without getting an SD card. Perhaps Nintendo should consider releasing a slightly beefed up Wii in the future, if people are willing to pay the extra money.Gencoil
Yeah, but I'm happy that it has its own built in memory card. I wouldn't want to buy a memory card when i first got the Wii.

Exactly you could by a 360 like me I have a wii too but they have better games

You can have your oppinion, but if you don't like the controls, and you don't like the graphics, and you don't like the shop pricing, why did you buy it? The controller is the reason TO buy it... If I was to change it, make it more powerful, but not too powerful, because then it would have cost too much. Oh, and make Wii Sports online enabled. That would be good.
more memory 5-10gigs or so, able to play dvd and cds do more with da usb ports i want hook up my mp3 and play sum tunes
more online and 3 part devs to take it seriously cuz come on im tired of the damn mini games im down for mario party and rayman thoise are fun and even wario ware but come on sum of these mini games are sh*t but ill be quiet when i get super smash bros and mario strikers and moreonline and oh yea make it compatible with more online videos
and maybe bring those new color quick i wanted black but i couldnt wait lol
it's kiddy image. I'm tired of party games gimme some FPS action. the wii should be every 3rd parties DREAM for a good FPSsnowman6251
I don't mind the party games, but I do agree that it needs some good FPS games. A good online FPS for Wii is what I want!
Also, I think they should think about having microphones for online.
