Great on IGN's side. But I wonder what Gamespot will score it.
Thoughts?

They gave Kirby Super Star Ultra a 6.0 and didn't mention anything in the review about the new stuff.
I don't trust IGN anymore.
They didn't notice those? *facepalm* Wow!They gave Kirby Super Star Ultra a 6.0 and didn't mention anything in the review about the new stuff.

Nice! Can't wait to pick this one up.
EDIT: I just remembered, that's a better scorethan Little King's Story. I'll deffinatly have to check it out then, even though thier two completely different types of games.
Lol, the REAL question is: Will Gamespot review this year?:P
I'm glad Muramasa scored well. Then again, they gave The Conduit an 8.6, so I don't really trust IGN when it comes to reviews.:P
And its averaging an 8.0 from other reviewers, IGN always rates Wii games too highly. I think GS'll give it an 8.0 then. An 8 is pretty much what I was expecting, I knew it wouldn't be that great.
Most likely GS will give it a 6.5-8.0. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave it a 6.5 at all. maybe even 6.0.
That's a great score but other review sites haven't been very kind so far. I'll wait longer before thinking of picking this game up, it looks really good but it's pretty much button mashing apparently.
For a generic, repetitive side scroller? Wow. I think I'm losing faith in IGNs scoring.psychobrew
That isn't the only way to judge a game (I personally wouldn't call it generic, since there isn't much else like this out there... repetitive, yes, but like IGN notes it brakes up the combat a bit, much of the time you do not relise it is repetitive).
And smart people had no faith in IGN to begin with, you are years behind if you are only losing faith now.
i'm not sure if it is even logical to compare review scores between games from completely different genres. if a music game receives a 8.7 and a fps receives a 7.9 it does not mean that the music game is a "better" game. as far as murmasa goes i believe that most of us have already decided on whether we were purchasing it or not before any reviews came out. i'm glad that the reviewer at ign liked it so much.
i played it for an hour and im not too impressed. The gameplay is really basic and ultimately requires nothing but constant mashing of the A button. The graphics are nice but the same backdrops are repeated way too often. And for some weird reason there is no english voice acting, its all japanese. If i were to rate what i've played so far i'd give it a 7. Good game but theres not enough depth to satisfy the hardcore action game audience.

A good game is a good game is a good game, regardless of genre. So yes, 8.7 > 7.9

i gotta say i agree with both of you :P sure, people usually review based on standards, and those standards are 99% of the time previous games of the same genre. so in theory you should only compare games with games from the same genre, most of the time. on the other hand, low score means bad game, no matter which genre, so you could say a game is better than other from a different genre, but it would also be an inaccurate statement, seeing both were reviewed with different standards. in other words, you can compare bad games with good games to say one is better than the other, but comparing two good games from different genres is more complicated, as it depends too much in personal taste. This game is beautiful, but I'm still skeptical.
IMO, It's going to come down to old school gamers vs new school gamers. Who wants to play a 2d vs 3d title?
It being 2d, I hope it holds true to the difficulty factor that so many 2d games once had, makes you appreciate the game more imo.
Any word on difficulty?
I've been playing the game for over 3 hours now and it's a pretty good game. I'd give it a solid 8. I can imagine combat getting repetitive (as you only use A to attack and you don't learn new combos as far as I see). Though, the forge system encourages you to search through every screen and fight monsters as much as possible so you can obtain soul, which is required to obtain new swords. It plays a lot like Metroid in the sense that you can't access without a certain sword and there is some back tracking.
