It basically has to do with the new idea which is to multiplatform almost every game. They look at PS3/360 and think they are both basically same so put this game on those 2. Then they look at Wii/PS22/PSP these are basically all the same hardware wise, so they put a game on 2 or 3 of those systems.
A lot of the games today are open world and want to simulate real life sort of so games like GTA, Assassins Creed, Resident Evil 5, Soul Caliber 4, that want to make the game have great presentations and still need the standard, so they can''t be done or would be awkward on the Wii. The games just mentioned have always been hardware pushers, and since the wii isn't that, it needs it's own game to show off what that system can do. If a developer wants to have download content, it is easier to do it on ps3/360 than it is on Wii. Yes GH4 will have downloads, but they probably need to work harder for the Wii version than the others.
A lot of these things are soley on Nintendo and what they want to do. Nintendo wants to keep that family image as well, so they don't want the games to have to be patched, or need parts which require downloading significantly. They want everyone to play with relative ease. A lot games coming out in the market don't have that image, so Nintendo does not want it.
If Nintendo would have come out with an 8GB hard drive, then there might not have been some problems.
Yes you can do things your own way for 1st party, but when it comes to other companies, they are in charge of what they want to do and it isn't just you anymore. That is why N64 and GC were somewhat lacking. If Nintendo doesn't start making some concessions about their views on some things dealing with hardware, they will continue to get the lesser version of the 3. If you don't have what 3rd parties need, then you will get shafted. They should have upgraded hardware a little bit more than what they did. They should have made a hard drive available, maybe not the big ones the other 2 have, but something none the less. They need to drop the friend code stuff.
Also the reason 3rd parties look to the wii as less, because the top selling games on there all the time are Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, and a Mario game. The Nintendo userbase seems to want more simplistic games and not so much the other stuff, so 3rd parties are like " the game I am working on won't sell on that system" That is why Nintendo needs to advertise more "core games". They have the new people, but they need to start winning over some core gaming people.
Yes you hear the Wii is a successful, but it is only has been successful for Nintendo and not others with an exception here and there.
That is why, if you want to play games at their best volume, you need to save your money and buy all 3 systems. It sucks, but that is the way it is.
