Over the last hour or so, the Wii's Internet speed has decreased ridiculously. I went onto the Wii to see the new videos in the MP3 preview channel. The videos didn't get the blue buffering bar at the bottom. I let it load for 5 minutes, turned off the Wii, and repeated numerous times. Thinking it was the channel, i erased it and entered the Shop channel to re-download it. It took 15 minutes to re-download the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel, and when I enter it, it is stuck on the "connecting" screen for over 20 minutes now.

I exit the channel, and ask my brother (extremely smart brother) about if he can help me with the router. He than says that the routers working, cause He's been playing WoW for the past 3 days straight on it (a little nerdy...). Then, he starts arguing with me, saying that I broke the computer, and how I broke the Wii, being the "stupid 14 year old idiot" that I am (the ironic thing is that I'm an A/A+ student). After that, he goes up to my dad arguing about me breaking the computer (which I didn't), and goes up to the room while telling me not to touch the router, and to not touch anything on the computer, even though I've been on it for 2 hours already, listening to some music and on gamespot.

Well, do you guys have any ideas on why the Wii's internet is extremely slow, and if there is any fix for it without messing with the router.

P.S. The computer's internet speed is quite speedy.

I can help you there but it all depends on your layout. Let's say your room is seperated from the computer room. You connect your wi fi there. If you have a 56k modem, the speed is strong but slow. Same with the broadband. What about if you have a computer in your room? It should drastically speed itself up with minimum distruptions. Or buy yourself a Nintendo LAN adapter that connects via USB via router. These are just suggestions. Try it out anyway you can or at least talk to the game shop owner for some more help. There's my solution for you.

My Wii is on the opposite side of the wall from the Wi-fi router/computer, and the internet was working perfectly 2 days ago, and my dad refuses to make any holes just for a cable, so no LAN for me :(.

Sigh just wait a while for crying out loud. You and everybody else is rewatching the metroid prime 3 vids. It;s normal for slowdown to occur every so often especially when a site is being heavily accessed. Why do people not understand this?

Wow, rude much? It took over 20 minutes and it didn't start, or even BEGIN to do anything, and it's only for a single 1 minute video.

Cool, then do this.

Go to yahoo.com and search for "speed test" without the quotes of course. The second result should be the speakeasy speed test. Click that and then pick the location closest to you and test it. See what the results are and we can go from there.

Sometimes it helps to just reset the router. I don't know why (though I should, but I've never looked into it). Make sure everyone's off the wireless network, then unplug the router (the power cord, not the ethernet plug) and plug it back in. I had an extremely slow connection once, and that's how I fixed it.

Ok, now how is that compared to what you get from your internet service provider?

Also is anyone else using the connection? (computer in the house also surfing the web right now?)

That speed should be fast enough to do what you need it to. It's more then fast enough for gaming and videos shoudln't be a big problem either, unless the server the Metroid videos are on is loaded with people watching right now.

My brother said I shouldn't touch anything, cause I could "mess up his connection to his computer" in his room. If i change it to channel 1/11, would he ever find out? and how DO you change it to 1/11?

P.S. Currently my brother isn't home, he just left (with his computer), over to his friends house, So these results are with him NOT on the network.

No, changing the router to 1 or 11 will only IMPROVE everything. See the default is probably on channel 6 and that's right in the middle of the channels, 1 or 11 are at the ends and have less interference.

You need the computer to get into the router.

Tell your brother to get a life, and to stop being an internet-hogging jerk. God, you seem more mature than him.

Anyway, either change your router to channel 1 or 11, or unplug the router altogether. I had this problem too, and I unplugged it for about 10 seconds and it worked again. If not, it might have to do with the fact that everybody is watching the videos on the Metroid channel, or somebody is stealing your internet. If it's the second one, put a password on your wireless connection.

I mean, if you checked your internet connection on your wii's internet channel and it worked fine, then it's probably just the channel.

In any event, those video's can be watched on YouTube anyway, and they aren't that great, there are better videos on GameTrailers.com. It's not a huge loss either way.

Okay, how do you change the channel?

It's one of the following sets of numbers

192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1

Type either set of numbers into your computer's browser and hit enter, it'll bring you inside the router. Then all you have to do is find the channel tab (every router is different) and set it to 1 or 11.

If it's password protected you're kinda screwed and will need the password of whoever set it up though. Type in ADMIN for user and leave the password part blank and hit enter, if that doesn't work type in ADMIN for username and PASSWORD for password, if that doesn't work leave everything blank and try.

Thanks, at least someone understands how annoying my brother is. Well, back on subject, the problem isn't only with the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel, as it's also really slow on the Wii Shop Channel, as it took over 30 minutes to download Zelda: Ocarina of Time (about 400 blocks). Strangely though, none of the other channels seem affected whatsoever. I also hate my current router, it's a garbage Dell router, and my brother refuses tosetup the linksys router (we have two routers, we got one as a present from a relative), cause it doesn't "match the computer". I don't think anyone would be using the internet, as we have a WEP code, so the only other computer using the router would be my brother's computer, which he mainly uses for World of Warcraft with.

Hi, I'm back again, and I just tried what you did, and when I hit enter, it didn't load anything. And I went back to try and see if the internet on the Wii Shop Channel/Metroid Preview Channel was any faster, I was able to get into the Metroid Preview Channel, and I left the Wii loading a video for 20 minutes. I came back to see the 30 second trailer was 3/4 done loading. Strangely though, on every other channel, it seems the internet works fine, and even on my DS the online works perfectly, which confuses my further. Is it that Nintendo's servers are down, or what? I guess help is still needed... :(

This is very odd

I would say that you did everything you can do on your own and would call Nintendo's online help at this point. They'd know firsthand if something was wrong with the channel and maybe even have you download it again if needed.

I'd say give them a call right now (in my sig they're open tell 10pm EST last I checked) and see what they say.

Actually, I found my old Nintendo Wi-fi usb adapter (I got it for myDS back in 2005, before i had my router), and it's the same extreme slowness as with the Dell router. I'm gonna phone Nintendo's customer service tomorrow when I get a chance and I'm going to hope I don't have to send it in again (I had to send it in due to graphical errors due to overheating).
