Were the songs mp3?

As for the movies here one sec let me find the maker for them....

HERE YOU GO

That's what makes the movies playable in the Wii, now if your media was another format from that it could explain why it wasn't working.

Theres the new version of Winamp

theres a beta but i havent tried it yet

from the article

[- The Winamp Remote feature allows you to stream the music and videos on your home computer to any other computer, a Nintendo Wii, or a cellphone, simply by leaving your home computer on and logging in to winamp.com/remote (iTunes, on the other hand, only lets you stream to computers on your local nework). I demoed Winamp Remote on a Wii and found it ran smoothly, with an easy-to-learn interface.]

To play music, you enter slideshow mode and pause it, and where it says Select Music, you should be able to pick from mp3 files in Other Music...

If you have the Internet channel you can go to http://www.finetune.com/wii/

to listen to streaming music.
