you took the words out of my mouth. =p nds is not a gimmick coz it have the "fun" factor of a portable console and most of the games can last for a long time w/o getting bored. Although the graphics are a little bad, the fun gameplay makes you forget about the graphic.
Im not exactly sure what your asking but i think your asking whether or not its a gimmick to make more sales after the original ds. If this is what your asking then the answer is no. The ds lite may have the same hardware as the original but it is 10 times better. The sleekness of the handheld is out matched and games look better on it due to the better quality lighting. Not to mention it is lighter and smaller and slides easily into your pocket, unlike the clunky original ds. It is a definite upgrade. In the sense of it being a gimmick i guess you might be kind of right because it probably cost nintendo a relatively small amount to redesign compared to the amount that they made off of it, but like a previous poster said, it is one sweet gimmick and definitely worth owning.
Neither DS nor Wii are gimmicks, and to think that they are is to lack imagination.
The touch screen is fantastically useful for so many things. There are loads of games out there that demonstrate my point, I'm not even going to bother list them.
Hmm. Perhaps I could have worded my response better. I own a DSlite and my statement comparing it to the Wii, was merely to demonstrate that as a concept the Wii was further removed from traditional consoles (PSX, XBoX, NES whatever) than the DSlite is from older handhelds. I find the Wii to be gimmicky in the sense that it caters to a different class of gamers - casual and moves away from the more sedantary aspects of gaming. In that sense the DS/DSlite is not a quantum leap from previous handhelds.
Yes rumble packs and thumbsticks are standard on today's controllers but in essence they did not alter your state of rest while playing games - at least no one I observed had to leave their couch while playing on a dual stick controller.Â
I saw this thread and thought immediately it must have been floated up from eons ago. But apparently someone really did create this thread in 2007. Mind boggling.
This may not have anything to do with the question, but my regular ds was stolen my one of my supposably best friends, and now he going to have to pay a fine, and if I get enough money or something from the mount of what it was all worth (ds and 3 games ) I would just get a lite, but Im not going to judge anything but honestly I dont think a console of any kind can be a gimmick NO MATTER WHAT
