im not to sure does dsi have mp3 compatibility having a camera and downloading games doesnt warrant a purchase, if it does i think it is worth a purchase if u have a ds liegronk-bonk

Gronk that sig of yours is the funniest thing I have seen all day long lol. I am not sure if all of the extra stuff for the nintendo dsi are really going to be worth it. I am half wanted to see what it is all about it and half of me is like meh. I will have to see more about it if I am willing to put my money down on it.

Ugh, what the hell are all you people talking about?

Low battery life? When you change t lit setting to 3 (which is lighter than the brighest setting on the DS lite), the battery life about 3 hours higher than the highest light setting on the DS lite.

Cell phones already have cameras and mp3s? So what, I don't have a fricken phone.

And someone said something about 258 mb internal flash memory being a fail. 258 mb is half the memory of the Wii, and that's a home console. So basically, you're saying the Wii is fail. Plus, don't forget about the SD card.

AAC files? To convert MP3 to AAC, just left click the damn song, and scroll down where it says "Convert to AAC"

Hitting the power button while playing? The power button is reall stiff, so it can't be accidental. The sliding power button can be accidental.

GBA, GBC, GB, SNES, NES, Genesis, and Master system can all be played on the DSi. It has enough memory, and it can emulate it good.

So wth are you all talking about?

Why are people saying the dsi isn't much of an upgrade and not worth it?

The ds lite was not an upgrade, all it has is a brighter screen, slim size and that's it (it was just an attempt to get to the people who said the ds was ugly). Now Nintendo is actually trying to make an upgrade and people say no?

The ds lite is lacking the ablilty to play GB color games and people were pissed about it but they moved on ( most people didnt care about playing GBC games on ds about until it was gone). The same will happen with the dsi, people will realize that the Gba games are of the past and the people saying no here will eventually get one (when the price drops)

The dsi is worth it but for the people who still have a working ds lite might want the price to lower before upgrading to something they don't necessarily need to have.

Two additional cameras and a better processing system seems worth it if you haven't bought the lite yet.

[QUOTE="Head_of_games"]I think it's great. The camera will allow new innovative gameplay. The SD slot, Hardrive, and downloadable software are awesome as well...Rocketomy

Since when does the DSi has a hardrive? It's just 256mb flash memory, which fails!

That's what the SD slot is for. Anyways, the point is that we can download games and other such things.

I don't think the DSi is worth it at all. The new features are lacking (no .mp3 support, just .AAC, etc.), and why the hell would I want two low quality cameras in my DS?! Not to forget about the shorter battery life and the misplaced power button (IMO). Also, why would I want to waste money for mini-games in DSware, when I could go out and buy a full-fledged DS game for under twenty bucks?

The only viable thing I see about this new DSi is the memory option that could enable DLC for some games, but still, would cost us more money for a game we already paid for. Everything else about the DSi though, could be done on a regular DS with an R4 flash cart. Also, the new DSi doesn't read flash carts and it has updateable firmware, which means that Nintendo will be all over our asses with firmware releases to fix their sorry console.

And at +$50 more than a DS lite, it just doesn't make sense to me, it really doesn't. Unless all of the games are going to be made for the DSi (which they aren't), then there's just no reason to upgrade or hold out for the new model. Period.

I agree no .mp3 Or .wma

No backwards compatability will make me more likely to purchase another DSLite rather than a DSi since my DSLite has a fair bit of mileage already :P

I don't have a DS, but with all the new stuff exclusive to the DSi i'll probably wait and get it when it launches here in the US.

The only reason I would buy a DSi is for the bigger screens. The dual cameras would be usesless to me.

I think it's a step in the right direction but I wouldn't get one since there's no gba slot and the power button was moved.

For anyone who is wishing to import a DSi, here is a shocker: I learned that suppliers in Japan are pricing the units between $292.50 to $295.50, more than double the price of the DS Lite. Because of this, I maybe reconsidering importing because I do not want to pay a higher price for a handheld system. I will wait several weeks until the prices go down if of course the U.S. dollar continues to erode against the Japanese yen.

http://www.shopncsx.com/nintendodsi.aspx (please copy and paste to your browser's URL box)

The price is about $100 more than I expected, and I could have bought a Wii for $292-95.

MetaKnight50

HOLY....$290! Ok, now its not worth it. im sticking to a ds lite if this is true.

dude, the JAPANESE dsi is $290 to import. It's $180 here in America

Same here but it still has more things going for it to justify picking it up over the DS lite when it launches. Just the new channel system (wii-ish) and SD card slot for storing possible DS VC content is more than enough for me to choose it over the lite.

I really think it's worth it. Besides, new games will probably be developed for the DSi's cameras (ie. wario ware)

I hope it doesn't cost that much, if it does i'd probably just pick up another DS lite. I'm assuming thats the cost to import it?

If the DSi really does cost $180 when it comes to the US, screw that.

I'd rather buy a PSP.

[QUOTE="LuckyChan"]

Well I don't think so.

Fist of all, the camera coming with DSi is very poor in quality as far as I hear. It is only 0.3 megapixel (even worse than some free cell phones).

Another big minus is the loss of GBA slot. If you are still playing GBA games you will miss it a lot. Also some DS games interact with GBA (eg Castlevania). You lose a bit of gameplay after this upgrade.

Also it becomes more power-hungry. This means the battery life is shorten considerably.

I don't quite like the fact that it moves the power button up on to the surface of the control panel (ie next to the bottom screen). The power is a button so it is possible that we may mispress when we are playing some intensive games. Sigh!

Comparing with DS Lite, the screen is only slightly larger. Well you should be benefited a bit more since you are upgraded from original DS to DSi [Why doesn't Nintendo make the largest possible screen in the first place? Why Nintendo? :(]

DSi shop can be a plus but that means you will be tempted spend more money on DS. We still don't know how useful/great the DSWare are.

All in all DSi is a mixture of upgrades and downgrades. You get something but also lose something. What's more you lose money to "upgrade" (or downgrade?). After all it really depends on how you value the features you get and you lose, and how you value money. If you ask me, it isn't worth it. For that amount of moeny, I expect I will get a much better DSi in nearly all aspects, instead of something like that.

tekky14

-The camera on the inside is 0.3mp. on the outside, its 3mp.

-The GBA games have been replaced by an SD card. Use your DS lite to play them.

-It can't have a camera and have the battery life be the same.

-I acctually like the button on the inside, instead of ON the SD slot.

-Like you said, if the screens are bigger, the battery life won't be.

-Who knows? maybe we'll be able to download GBA games and people will finnaly stop compaining.

I, for one, acctually like the DSi, instead of picking at every little thing that seems out of place.Im probably getting it on release day.

Yeah!!! I got an original ds for christmas (pink :) )3 christmases ago. I didn't get the lite when it came out and now my Touch Screen is playing up so I think I have a pretty valid reason for buying the dsi when it comes out, as I dont actually use the GBA slot and sooner or later everything is going to start to revolve around the DSi (accessories, cases etc) For example, I cannot get a cases for my old ds anymore, becuase evrything revolves around the lite version. As said above, it would be cool to get the extra features such as caera and web browser! :)

I think the DSi is worth the upgrade. It has many nice features. And I still use my grey DS from 2004, so for me the DSi will be a great upgrade.

i think DSi is better than DS lite and DS phat. so you should get DSi if your buying a new DS. but i wouldn't wait for it to come out if i wanted a ds now, i would just get the DS lite DSi is better just because it looks cooler alone, with the added bonus of an SD card slot, bigger screens, and a built in web browser.

I think it is not worth it. I mean if you put in a GBA slot then it might be wort it but it should at least coast $150
