I was playing Vesperia at my friend's house and every second i was laughing. The entire thing sounded cheesy to the point i couldn't take the game seriously. Is TOS2 like this?nintendoman562It is not only in Tales of Symphonia, but in almost every Japanese RPG with English voice-acting. That is why I tend to avoid playing Japanese RPGs because of the often bad voice-acting. I am very sensitive to voice-acting because it is something that I can quickly notice, and I will often quickly dismiss a game because it has poor voice-acting. While I do love the original Japanese voice-acting, I begin to have a dislike of it because of the stereotypical male and female voices that are often recycled on every RPG. It seems to me that the same Japanese voice actors are behind the voices of these games.
Speaking of ToS2...
It turns out the game shipped on the 11th, but it wasn't in stores. So when I went to GameStop last night, it wasn't there:evil:
I got De Blob instead. Its good, very unique, but not what I wanted:( *sigh* Guess that Tales is for christmas then...Â
just watch some videos on ign or youtube...
i dunno what you mean by cheasy but the character style and voice acting is already bothering me enough to consider not buying the game though when i first heard a tos2 was comign out, i would have gone and preorderd. man, i wish they kept the old characters as the main characters :(

yeah, i preordered it and went to pick it up today (i think canada got it on 12th cuz 11th is our rememberance day) but apparently they didnt have it so im waiting for their call now.
and as far as the question goes, it's not bad, because i have low expectations on english dubbing anyway. no matter how the dubbing was done well, personally, i dont think ill fully enjoy it especially since they dubbed out two of my favourite japanese seiyuus. but im one of those geeks who like to listen to japanese voices rather than english, so who knows, it might work for u.
from what i have seen from videos it's not bad, if u liked the voice acting in first one, u probably wont have problem with this i guess
Somebody of north of my post said it right, there just isn't good voice acting in any video games.
In my opinion, Oblivion probably did it best, but that's not on Wii so: damn.
I'm content with the diferent sqeaks and squawks of Animal Crossing :)
Yes it is. And I agree with above: most J-rpgs have pretty cheesy voice-acting, especially english dub, which can be grating and laughable. In fact, it's the main reason why I won't be getting ToS2(well, the main character is the main reason). I don't even understand why companies add new main characters for a sequel.
It's not always bad, there are a few that I remember being pretty good IMO (if memory is correct)like ToA, Star Ocean, FF12.
One of the problems with the Tales games is the that the voice acting doesn't flow very well because there are long pauses in between each line of dialogue, which adds to the cheesiness. For example: "Get him........ he's getting away!" or something to that effect.
The voice cast in TOS2 is different than the cast in the original, and they're a lot worse and cheesy than the original game. Emil's voice actor is pretty good, though.
Meh, IDK, I dont think Ive ever heard great voice acting in my life. Its always sounded too staged....
As far as your question goes, Ive only played and heard the JPN versions voice acting so I really wouldnt know.

Lol you and I are the same....I've only played the Japanese version. Â

Hehe, just a little bit, I'm not very fluent...I'm not that great, I'm probably about as good as a 2nd student of Japanese in high school, at most? I can read a little too? xD
And yes, I'm half Japanese...and half Chinese :).

Better than nothing though  ;). You know enough Japanese to have bragging rights about it :P
Atleast you can understand tidbits here and there in the dialogue. Ive been traveling aimlessly trying to find out where to go, making steady progress here and there though.

Lucky! Why couldnt I be asian!

I stopped playing JRPGs when they got Voice acting.loco145
I kind of doubt that unless you stopped in the early 90's.

I'm not into anime, so I don't know if I'd be able to understand it all. I should watch a Japanese version of Naruto one day and see how I go.dylanmcc
Lucky! Feel like getting Rosseta stone for Japanese now :P
Â
NOT NARUTO!!!!! Its horrible, why not the Tales of Symphonia anime!

I second that. I've only watched two subtitle episodes(out of four >_>), but they very well done.
I really want to watch more Japanese One Piece though...

Tales of Symphonia anime is pretty good, but the Tales of the Abyss one is a bit better.
