I bought a Gamecube when it came out, and I wasn't all that thrilled by the game selections and quality. Is the Wii better than the Gamecube? I played a SSB demo at gamestop on the wii, but didn't get much out of it as I could barely make it out of the Character selection screen, less much fight.

In your opinion, will the Wii last like the DS has, or will it fall with Nintendo's next announcement (most likely next year).

Thanks

Is the Wii better than GC? In my opinion, no. There are a lot more GC games that I like than Wii games. Right now, that is.
Luckily, I can play GC games on the Wii, which makes the Wii a lot more awesome than it would've been otherwise.

In terms of sales, I believe the Wii is going to be more like the DS than the GC.

Tough Question. I couldn't tell you until the end of this generation.

The NES, SNES, N64 and GC were all awesome... So far the Wii has delivered.

Wii is way better than the Gamecube. The gamecube had a pretty shakey start. The wii is doing way better. Launch titles are way better goood games came out faster. but the wii is so far behind the N64

IMHO, no console can compare to the N64's Quality over Quantity

Wii is the best Nintendo console I've owned since the SNES. Disagree or agree, thats my opinion.

The Wii will last a regular console life cycle -- about five year's.

You can compare a system that's been out for 2 years to a system that has been out for longer if you only consider its first two years as well. In that regard, the GCN is better.

Theres a thread Wintry made a while back comparing releases of each of the nintendo consoles in the same time frame -- Wii was actually the one that had the most amount of games from nintendo in the first 2 years -- take that as you will.

No but the Wii has only been out a couple of years. I don't think any Nintendo system will be better than the SNES, IMO the Super Nintendo has the best game library of any system ever made.

I would probably rank Nintendo systems (not counting handhelds): 1) SNES, 2) NES, 3) Gamecube, 4) N64, 5) Wii, 6) The Color TV game systems (only released in Japan I believe, and not very well known although they sold ok over there)

The Wii is too young to know for sure yet, but it has dissapointing so far

IMO, the Wii is MUCH better than the Gamecube (I wasn't a big fan of the cube), but of all the nintendo systems the 64 is my favorite. Mario, Zelda, Starfox, DK, Kart, and many other franchises really shined on that console.

As revolutionary as motion control is, I'd have to say 3D games were even more-so. Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, and I could go on and on and on. The N64 totally revolutionized the way we play games, or rather it AND the PSone did. Anyway, my point is that no, the Wii isn't better than previous systems. The N64 has it beat by a long-shot. All in my opinion of course.

Looking at your profile I'm guessing you never owned a GC, which doesn't really justify your statement.

When I think of the Xbox I think GRAPHICS/BILL GATES,

when I think of the PS2 I think DARK/VIOLENCE/SELECTION,

and when I think of the Gamecube I think FUN GAMES.

Yeah, it was the least successful of the last-gen 3 in terms of sales... But, I owned a Gamecube and it was awesome. Games like Super Smash Bros. Melee, Resident Evil 4, The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, and Metroid Prime 1 & 2 are some of defining games that made the Gamecube. This reply probably belongs on System Wars, but whatever.

I say the GameCube era as the time when Nintendo started changing and trying new things. Wii fells like the deconstruction of that push forward to me. The truly good games are far and few between (I didn't care much for TP or Galaxy).

But keep in mind, I haven't been completly 100% satisfied with a Nintendo home console since SNES.

Tough decision. I'm going to have to call it second best to the Gamecube. 3rd best is N64, fourth is SNES, 5th is NES and last is Nintendo's arcade cabinet's.

What announcement are you refering to? That there is a sequel to Wii coming at some point? The Wii will last like the DS has. With so many people buying it, I see numerous peripheral enhancements before it dies.

It is still too early to compare them. I think all other four previous consoles are better than the Wii right now but all of them have already got their full libraries while the Wii is not even halfway through its lifespan.

I don't think I like any Nintendo console more than any other - they each have something to offer and I would be proud to own any of them. The Wii, while not as great as fun as the Gamecube imo, has backwards compatibility, virtual console, wiiware and wi-fi capabilities, so it more than makes up for its flaws because of that. With no other Nintendo console, could I play games from the NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube era, all in one place. As well as new stuff.

Im not sure I got N64 and Gamecube both pretty Late in their lifetime, N64 got me into games around 1997 :S but I got one just before my 8th Bday in 2000 (April) and I loved it but to me it was no comparison to the Psone at the time but Now i only see how much more capturing a N64 tittle was over a Psone tittle I sit down now and play oot on the Wii VC because i didnt play it before :P and im 10 years late lol, Gamecube got that late too after not being too happy with my N64 I got one in Xmas 2005 they were really cheap and got it for the sake of mario party mainly :P but that brought along Sunshine Luigis Mansion and a few others but i still thought of Ps2 more then the gamecube, got wii this time Xmas 2006 like 3 weeks after it came out here in Australia and since then ive been more then happy with it I also have a Ps3 and both have amazing tittles and both are good in their own refference but to me a Wii feels like a N64 does to me now its better then the gamecube as there is alot more which joins you with the rest of the wii gaming community like online and other features, but who knows what will happend I just hope nintendo havent wasted their fuel tank and now there wont be anything until their next console thats my main worry because ussually there is only one amazing "Super" Mario game on each console since the N64 and one mario kart and one or 2 zelda's and all those are gone now :(

the N64 easily wins.. it took gaming to a whole new level with graphics, controls, and gameplay. and it had amazing games, 1st party and 3rd party..

the wii attempted to do something like that, but only with controls.. they didnt improve much graphicly and the gameplay wasnt drasticly different from the cube. it also has very little support from 3rd party devs. that along with most of the 1st party games going towards a different audience leaves us with a product that isnt nearly as groundbreaking or innovative as past systems.

Well, compared to the Gamecube, the Wii is a success. As a matter of fact, the only other Nintendo system I can think of that was a bigger success was either the NES or SNES. Game-wise, the Wii has great first party titles, but it kinda lacks of quality titles in the third party area. Hopefully, that'll change with The Conduit and Fatal Frame ^_^ Overall, I think the Wii is a pretty good system for the price.

the system is statistically better then all of its predecessors, But so far the choice of an "ACTUAL" game has yet to come to the table. So in MY opinion yes the system is better even though it's controller is a remote. And second it has yet to make a game that i would enjoy playing.

But then again I've never played a Nintendo game that i enjoyed playing, the story's are all bland the game play is terrible and Nintendo is doing the EA thing by remaking the same thing over and over again "Mario 64+= Mario Galaxy"

But then i have only liked two games in my life and that is Call Of Duty 4 for its story and Advent Rising for the game play, witch is for the Xbox even though i hate the damn thing.

So in all things the Wii is better but it is met with a lack of games so all other "well know" Nintendo consoles are better.

the wii is the best nintendo home console ever and i dont see how you can even argue with that.

it has the entire library of Wii games .

the entire library of game cube games.

and it has VC for a lot of the best N64, SNES, and NES games.

This question is like a duh question. On the wii there is internet, better graphics, and VC. Some people think GC games are better but you also have to think that the wii's only been out 2 years, so if you get the games that came out 2 years since the GC was released you will find many better games. You'd be a fanboy to think the gamecube's better with all of the wii's options the gamecube never had. O and by the way Brawl rocks, no duh you'd get bored if you never left the character selection. Try using gamecube controllers, they work the best.

-_-, wow, if you think nintendo does the same thing over and over then you have it all wrong. Mario 64 and galaxy are a lot different, like the ways you controll mario, the bosses, the levels, gameplay, etc. Some of the only few things the same about it is the fact that its mario, stars, and that mario still jumps on goombas. If you don't like anything but those two games. A lot of games are supposed to be a lot the same, what do you expect, there to be tons of blood and gore in mario and instead of jumping he does karate.

Ok. So mixed reactions.

What's the highest price you'd pay for a Wii?
