Well, this is a big hit to every Nintendo fan's hopes on their favorite N64 games.  Microsoft has just announced that Jetpac, Rare's first game, will be coming out on the XBL downloadable service.  With this announcement, I find it hard to believe that the Wii will be able to put out previous Rare games for Nintendo's Virtual Console.  Leave your comments about the news here, as venting on System Wars will likely get you banned.

I still have hope that Rare won't ignore the VC. Of course they're free to put their stuff on Xbox Live, but I don't see why they wouldn't want to allow downloads from the VC as well. If Rare gets royalties from Ninty instead of just a one-time licensing fee, the VC would practically print money for them, and they'd have to do no work whatsoever. it just makes perfect economic sense. Though, Microsoft being Microsoft, I'm sure there's a clause in the contract saying that Rare can't do any dealings with competitors, or something to the effect, which is why we're having such troubles. There's still hope though... I think... I'm still crossing my fingers for Banjo Kazooie/Tooie sometime down the road...

Afraid that wont be possible.  Battletoads is a Rare LTD game that was merely published by Tradewest.  This means that since Tradewest only produced the cartridges for the game, they would have no say as to whether or not the game came out.  Another blow is that Rare believes that Battletoads is unmarketable due to its extreme difficulty.  So notch up another loss to video gaming.

WHAAHH? They did NOT say that! Seriously!? C'mon!!! Battletoads rocks! They were like Chuck Norris Ninja Turtles! That was the best beat-em up EVER. period. Too hard? that's total bull!

GAAARRRGH!!

So any possibility of a new battletoads game, even a PORT, is zero??

To patch up what I said earlier, apparently TRADEWEST does not exist anymore!  Midway consumed the company in 1994, and the department that TRADEWEST was moved to closed down its doors in 2002.  Also, Nintendo published Battletoads when it came to Europe, so if they want to throw the old sucker punch to Microsoft, there might be some small legal leeway to getting it released in 50Hz PAL (Although very unlikely, since Nintendo has stated that they want the original IP holders to allow them to release games).

If you want more Ultimate/Rare games released for the 360, support them by buying this game and writing them emails/making groups to ask Rare to do a fanservice and expand the XLA library.  I'm not supporting it, but I don't want to see such games canned from existence either.
