The system as a whole seems to be pretty awesome. There were two things I didn't like, however. The sound. Way too low. Tried with headphones, still too low. And the other is the position of the stylus. Why put it up there when having it on the side was a lot smoother? I could grab the stylus in a matter of a second. Not anymore.

Agree, disagree? Anything else you'd like to add?

I do have to praise the buttons, though. They are "clicky" this time. More like the phat DS and less like the horrible DS Lite buttons. I like! And OoT looks awesome.

Weird. A headphones problem then? I hope my friend's 3DS isn't defective in some way.. Cause the Lite was remarkably louder..

Who knows? My 3DS is louder than my Lite. Just tested Resident Evil on both of them.

Not only is the Stylus in the upper part but it's also on the left. I wonder who was the genius who thought that was a good placement....

What they should do is put two holes for the stylus: one on the left and another on the right. That'd be good for right-handed people as well as lefties.

I'm not bothered by the stylus position. I do think the volume is rather low on max. And the 3D effect doesn't work well with my eyes. Though after playing a few days in succession my eyes get used to it a little. Once I play so often that I get the 'gamespot text appears to be in 3D' effect it seems the 3DS works best for me.

After playing it for a couple of weeks now I definately have a few issues with my poor 3DS.

1. Firstly the battery life really gets on my nerves. Whether this is improved in a later model remains to be seen but the current battery just isn't good enough given the handheld is designed to be played "on the go"(i.e. away from a power source)

2. I agree the sound does seema bit quiet in some apps, etc (particularly the main menu). Not a deal breaker but certainly not as loud as I was expecting

3. The stylus holder is definately in an awkward position. I must admit I barely use the stylus at all as a result and opt for using my finger.

4. The big one for me at the moment is the fact that I get major hand cramp after playing my 3DS, even for just 30 minutes. I'm a bit perplexed as to why this is, given most people say it is a very well designed handheld.Strangely I can use a 360 controller for hours so I don't know what it is about the 3ds that my hands don't likebut its certainly spoiling my gaming enjoyment at the moment.

The volume isn't a big issue for me, though I find for some of the videos you can download, it sounds a bit low.

The stylus' position is definitely bothersome.

This is an odd complaint: It seems Nintendo is stressing using the touch screen as extra buttons. Well, it is human nature for ones hands to be oily sometimes, or sweat. So now I have a fear of damaging the lower screen...

the stylus placement was NOT good for lefties. that's already a big enough reason for them to move to a more neutral position.

How often do you pull out the stylus though? I'm a lefty, and I generally just leave it in my left hand while I play.

Other than the stylus and the extremely narrow field of view for 3D, my biggest complaint is how goddamn ugly the system is. It's four different colours on the bottom, middle, top back, and cover, and the cover has a ridiculous gradient as well. Then the entire thing is glossy, which makes it worse.

I get this as well and I never did with my DSi, which is almost exactly the same shape. The only difference is the analog disc, which must have just the right range of motion to stress my thumb. It's pretty annoying.

the extremely narrow field of view for 3D DJ_Lae

This is my only complaint so far. Especially when looking around in first person in OoT. Not a big deal when viewing the screen straight on though.

But I do have to disagree with this. I think the 3DS looks incredibly sleek. The bottom has more of a matte finish, combined with the metallic color around the cartridge area and the screws make it look very modern. The top is darker and glossier, which seems to glitter especially under close inspection. Reminds me of the nice paint jobs on some cars, which seem to glisten in the light. Although, the top is prone to fingerprints and smudges.

I'm also referring to the Aqua Blue 3DS, can't speak for the Cosmo Black 3DS. But overall, I think Nintendo did a great job designing this system! :)

I don't mind the overall shape, which is more or less borrowed from the DSi, but I think the DSi is a much better looking system because it's much more cohesive in terms of styling and the matte finish means that the system looks great out of the box and after hours of gameplay, and it feels better to the touch. (now the DSi XL with its weird rounded edges, not so much) But even ignoring the colouring, I just find some of the bits of the 3DS to be mismatched. The swollen shape doesn't look all that great and the different coloured sections fit together kind of awkwardly. And little things like the etched feet on the back dig into my fingers when I hold it. I really don't know how they could go back so much after designing the DSi. I'm probably one of the few people who don't like the looks, though.

I hate the stylus position too. If I know I won't be using it much I use my finger instead of taking it out, because it's in such an odd place it's easier to just finger-click a few times. That said they packed the 3DS pretty tightly, the placement may not have been very optional.

That's my guess, too. No one would put the stylus slot where it is if they could choose anywhere. I was annoyed by it at first, but now I know right where it is without looking, so it's easy to take out. I just leave it in my hand (or between my lips...) when I'm playing a game that uses it. I did the same thing with the DS, and that had a totally convenient stylus slot.

This. It's hard for me to pull out the stylus in a matter of seconds, since I am left-handed. The situation is quite ok now in 3ds since its nearer to pull out.

I'm satisfied with the sound for the most part. It could be better, but it could also be worse. As for the stylus, I think everyone's on board with you. The placement SUCKS.

Whatever you plan on doing with your 3DS, always use a genuine HORI screen protector.

The sound is actually the best of any handheld I've tried for me, it can go very loud without getting fuzzy or distorted.. and its even better with headphones.. The one you tried must have been broken or something.. the stylus was an issue for the first couple days, buts its perfectly fine now.. My only real complaint was that its kind of hard to play when you're holding it upside down (lying on a couch or in bed)

I don't like screen protectors. I use one on my iphone. Put it on the first day I got it. One day I took it off and I'm thinking, "holy cow, the screen looks this good?" I don't know if it's just me but any kind of screen protector creates this odd effect on the screen.

But they could put it in the middle of the front of the 3DS. This would still be a neutral position. The headphone jack will just double as a stylus holder too.

the front as in the part with the top screen? you'd have to close it to grab it. not to mention you'd have to get rid of the top screen, or make it ridiculously fat. and putting it under the 3DS is also a bad idea 'cause with time the thing holding the stylus in place doesn't hold it anymore and it would fall all the time. i know 'cause it's like that on my DS phat.

i actually tried my friend's 3DS to see if the volume was that low. i was surprised that it was. i mean, it's not like i need it any louder, but i don't like the idea of maximum volume being the halfway through of the DSi.

Stylus position, headphone volume (I write tunes on it and when I record onto an external source it is a very low signal), poor eShop and my bottom screen scratches the top. Nindo say I can use the foam that came with it but I say they're fixing it for free of I'm giving them the 1000 yard stare.

I have a few pairs of headphones and some can be blow your earsdrums out on a weak dignal while others need to be turned up to max to hear anything so, unless we all use the same headphones, this kind of talk is useless. Feed the 3DS headphone signal into some recording gear and see how many lighs come on compared to other gear, it's not very many. Getting the stylus out every time you need to use the touch screen would be fine if developers didn't keep throwing it in during the action.

What NindoFan128 said about battery life is probably true.
