I had never really heard of Kid Icarus until it was announced that Pit would be in SSB:B. People started talking about it coming to VC and a possible sequel for the Wii. It looks like a fairly interesting game, but I was wondering if anyone could explain to me what it is about and why it is considered such a great game. Thanks!

Kid Icarus is a cult game. The game was made by the same creators of the original Metroid on NES. Heck, on Kid Icarus, you have Metroid as ennemies. The game is hard.

It's a hard and kind of long game, it was the first game I ever beat on my NES. You start as a young and simple little angel and as you progress in the game you get new wings, new armor, new arrows and new shields. It's a great game, definately a NES Classic that NEEDS badly to be reborn again!!!

Probably one of the (if not THE) hardest games i have ever played. I beat it and literally jumped up in the air and scared my dog....that is back in the early '90s and i was like 8.

so it is possible to beat, but it is really really really freakin hard

the passwords are the only way i think. kudos to any mortal that can beat it in one sitting on one life.

really cool final level...the treasures can FINALLY be used. soooooooo satisfying!

I think most of you missed the point of his post. He knows many people thinks it's good, but why is it considered good? Someone wrote it's like Metroid, that's helpful, however, more info would be nice. Is it like a world system? After you beat a few levels do you fight a Medusa or Ogre like creature? Is there much story etc...

its pure solid gameplay. Really... its like metroid, but a different setting and atmosphere..... just play it, its worth it!

its like the old NES games....you get a short prolouge to the story and that is it! period.

then it is like metriod in that you go up a shaft-like level (only up tho, going back down kills you)

then you beat the "level" and go into a dungeon. there you can explore a network of rooms linked by doors (left and right) and ladders (up and down)

bosses follow, then another level.

the mechanics are very simple... you can shoot left rigth and up. but, like metriod, your initial shot distance is really limited.

and, despite the fact he has wings, flying is not a basic move. you earn that much later

all and all, i think this game is more a collectors item. it is really hard and will probably not match well with current expectaions for games i.e. you die, then restart from a checkpoint or something.

game overs set you all the way back unless you use the passwords....but, you lose all your power ups which like gradius..means you are DOA in later levels to start w/o power ups

hope this is helpful, enjoy!

People loved it, but when I picked it up a couple years back I did not like it. It looked like it didn't age as well as some other NES games like SMB3. Whatever flaws I noticed recently was probably forgivable back in the NES days. I want a sequel done for it with the stylization and artistic direction of God of War, but maybe less over the top violence or not.

There is a short list of games that I have been checking each week to see if they come out...and this is one of them.

One of the best games on the NES, not as hard as it is being made out to be (although by today's standards it would be considered somewhat difficult).

It is hard to explain why it is so well liked other than saying "it was fun".  Basic concept, standard game play.

I don't know how well it sold, but I never thought of it as a cult game, everyone I knew liked it.

...but there one was one thing...Eggpland Wizards...one of the goofiest enemy attacks ever, yet it worked somehow.

imagine if they made a remake of this game but like metroid zero mission, with better grafix for the DS, maybe with extras like something with the touchscreen. that would be cool.

One of the few ones I missed.  Can't wait to download it later.
