Great to see, Not quite my kind of game but my nephew will be getting it as a gift from me this christmas!
Day 1 for me. Its been recieving great reviews and people are loving the Captain. I think it will be Game of the Month for December.
Considering it's not out yet it's not a hit.
Let's see if it sells a few million over the Christmas holiday and then we can say it's a hit
In order for it to be a hit it needs to sell a few million from December 5th until Xmas?
Will it sell like MK8 or Smash? Probably not. Will it have some legs? Maybe. The situation I think it will be in is one similar to New Super Luigi U in that a relatively low priced Nintendo game will eventually push past a million. How long it takes is anyone's guess.
Meh. I'd probably get it if it was cheap. Being a Nintendo game, it'll probably never be cheap.
It's actually cheaper than other Nintendo games.
I can buy it for €39,- whereas other new games are usually between €50,- and €60,-.
Interesting, interesting. I just looked it up, and it costs about €10 less here too. Not sure if worth it, but I've got quite a few Wii-U games to play right now, so no hurry.
game is a dream come true. Its been such a blast going on an adventure with the captain. I hope this shows Nintendo that Toad deserves their own game and that a sequel happens. Or DLC packs. I'd be happy with DLC packs.
I think there are some availability issues with some retailers. Amazon seems to be sold out and my copy from Bestbuy still hasn't shipped. I can't even place an order for in-store pickup. A rep I chatted with said there were some issues with getting enough stock. I might just buy it from Target across from my house and then return it once my copy from Bestbuy finally arrives.

Couldve been a bigger hit with Co-Op.
The design is pretty much perfect for co-op. Considering the last few main Mario games have had co-op (where it kind of makes less sense), I bet there's none in Captain Toad due to time constraints. The single-player levels would have ZERO benefit from co-op, so building stages that require two people seems like a lot more design work.
Maybe we'll see some co-op DLC, though I wouldn't bet on it.

I think they needed to perfect the levels for single player first. I think it would take a lot of time to design coop levels. If they were the same levels with 2 players most of the levels would have been solved pretty easily. I'm sure sequels will feature couch co op or even online co op. I'm also sure that in the future they will include a simple level editor. All of these things are possible now that the first game has received good praise and good sales. The first game of any IP usually isn't the best in a series.
Overpriced just a bit.
Not at all. This game is miles better than most AAA games that go for $60. This industry could use more games like this little gem.

idk man I'm looking at the graphics of this captain mushroom head game and there pretty bad looks like a last gen game vs say something like Facry 4 that's looks way better in fact if I had to say it looks miles behind most AAA games! I mean can you do a drive by shooting with a crossbow riding an elephant in this game cause you can in Far Cry 4 and its AWESOME!!!

Apples and oranges. Games are much more than just graphics, and speaking of which, Captain Toad looks fantastic. Luckily, the game is much more than just that. From the presentation to the music, the level design is super smart and multi-dimensional. It's the kind of game you can re-play again and again and find something new each time.
Far Cry is an excellent FPS series imho, and one of the few big titles that lived up to its hype this year. The AAA games I was referring to were ones like Assassin's Creed Unity, Destiny, Call of Duty: AW, Drive Club and The Crew. I'd take Captain Toad over any one of those titles.

Not disputing that, still overpriced. Many of the AAA games only justify their price in pure stock quantity, but not in real entertainment value. A game with a mediocre single player with 100 hours of repetitive gameplay and passable multiplayer is worth less than a game that only does a single player, but a story that is steller, memorable, trend setting. Only consumers of websites like this will recognize this kind of value through steady research of upcoming games. This is known as the fringe audience, which is a small percentage of the total gaming audience.
If the back of the box bullet points and tv commercials are as far as your purchasing research goes then the game with loads of hours of gameplay and multiplayer included looks like a better deal.
In conclusion, many of those AAA games do not deserve their 60-70 dollar price tags. That does not change my initial observation of CT.
Captain Toad is phenomenal. It's my GOTY. But it's made by the same guys that made Mario Galaxy so of course it's going to be good.
Here's a little excerpt from the Digital Foundry vs Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker article:
These days it sometimes feels as if developers are focusing so heavily on cramming each game full of features that they ultimately lose sight of what's most important - the core gameplay. In contrast, Treasure Tracker just feels like a perfectly realised product - and as such, a breath of fresh air. There's no fluff here, just gameplay backed up with perfect performance and beautiful visuals. It's a ton of fun to play and its technology never lets it down. It's easy to get wrapped up in the issues and details surrounding the technical performance of modern titles, but Treasure Tracker reminds us how wonderful it is when superbly polished technology perfectly serves the game design.
Ultimately Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is another must-have title in Nintendo's expanding lineup of Wii U software - a game that is perfectly realised within the constraints of the system, achieving everything it sets out to accomplish. It's an approach we'd like to see more developers take - to find beauty in restraint. This is the type of game that will remain fun to play years down the line, well after the Wii U is off the market, and the product you get on the disc is all you'll need. In that sense Nintendo is still delivering products today just as they have for decades - an almost flawless consistency that's a rare and precious thing.

Beautifully said. Captain Toad will be a masterpiece next week, next month, next year, next decade and beyond. The game is just so excellent and it does everything it does so well. It deserves a GOTY nomination.
I just finished Captain Toad, and it is such a fun game. It is defiantly my game of the year. I can't believe how much I actually enjoyed this game

If it isn't a stock issue (in terms of shipments) then people are buying it up fast. I don't necessarily believe it though. I haven't seen it at a B&M store since it launched over a week ago.

Idk what it was honestly, but it did finally ship on Friday and should arrive tomorrow. At least it gave me some time to play more Smash and make a dent in Dragon Age haha.
I finally received it yesterday. It's everything I ever wanted. I'm addicted. Please release DLC map packs or a sequel. I know it's supposed to get Amiibo support, so I'm hoping certain amiibos when loaded bring up a series of maps from the characters' franchises. Like Pokemon-based maps for Pikachu, DK jungle maps for Donkey Kong, etc.
Ok, while everyone else is saying how much they like it none of that matters
What are the sales numbers?
its not out in europe until next year...dumb move by nintendo.
it sold about 80k in japan.
not sure how north america will react to it. it will probably sell less than hyrule warriors though. HW sold pretty good.

Right? I can't get enough of this game! The DLC could be set up as a new Book. So you would have your 3 books and bonus, and DLC books. I want 2 books. One with more levels, and another book with themes. I could see Captain Toad adventuring for treasure in a DK themed level, a Zelda dungeon level, and new DLC bosses! Man I'd be all over it. Make it happen Nintendo!

Considering this originated as a Link themed game that would be fitting.

really? How could that be if they were doing these levels in SM3dW? They were planning levels like this for a zelda game? You got a link? I'm interested in this.

Before SM3DW came out, this concept was being pitched at Nintendo.

nice. That is pretty interesting! But link could jump too. It wouldn't have worked with link. But they were looking for a familiar face to make the concept happen so I understand why they did it.
@bunchanumbers: Link, like Toad can jump, but both of them are victims of weight and gravity. If Link had a heavy backpack of treasure he would be weighed down as well. The Metal Boots come to mind as an indicator.
But that is just side story where gameplay takes priority. So they could have had a number of excuses for Link to be tethered to the ground like his Metal Boots being cursed to stay on his feet.
I am glad they went with a new character that still garners the strength of the Mario brand.
