Let me explain. This last sunday i went to a wedding and met my cousin who has a Wii console. We had a chat anbout whatever then he mentioned the Wii. He said, "I want to get a PS3, the wii is too kiddy". I wasn't shocked, i just asked him, have you heard of Madworld? He said no. I then asked him about a bigger title. Have you heard of Overkill. He said no. I was shocked. Take note he also bought brawl and other "hardcore games".

While the USA got a bad ass advert/commercial for 30 secs, in the UK the ad's sucked. No really, if you compare them, the UK ones suck. Plus, i doubt the wii owners in UK hardly know about it.

MAdworld debuted 35th in uk. In comparison, i believe it debuted 8th in Australlia, and sold 50k+ in USA at launch which is dam good if you ask me.

There you go guys, madworld tanked in UK b/c the marketing team really had no idea about marketing ie, when to market, length, making it look good etc.

The Wii is selling like hotcakes in the UK. Far far better than anywhere else in Europe. But I think people doubt how morecasual gamers have bought the Wii compared to the older generation of gamer. Many gamers here, especially the younger gamer, write off the Wii as a kids console without playing them for more than 5 minutes so most Wii owners tend to be new or casual. The casuals probably buy the majority of all games sold in the UK these days too. It would explain why we had both Brain Training games, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii in our all-format top 10 chart for over a year. I don't think Wii Fit has ever left our top 10 since it was first released. So when a game like Madworld has to compete alongside them, they're never going to compare. I mean look at GTA Chinatown wars. It's about to drop out of our top 10. I think people underestimate how few console sales are made by the older generation gamer. Madworld did get a lot of promotion here in the UK, just as GTA Chinatown wars is, but clearly the casual market is far stronger and games like these get overshadowed by the more casual titles.

The UK ads show off more of the gore and the violence and it's tanking there

The US ads don't show as much of the gore or violence and it's tanking here

So the argument about ads being good cannot be made, there's both kinds of ads out there and the game sells badly both places

The game is just not going to sell. It's doing horribly

We do not know if Madworld and HotD are tanking. There is SO much we do not know. We do not know how much it cost to make the games, Sega's expectations, and the ACTUAL numbers are fairly unknown at this point.

yes. it is very hard to know about everything that is 'behind the scenes'. you can never know for sure sometimes. and there are other factors aside from sales.

PA_DUTCH

I have something to say about just about anything :P

I had it at the top of my list once my boycott stopped but now it's down the list. I don't like games that make me do the same thing over and over again pretending that's somehow a long playing game.

I've seen it in action and I'll play it on other person's Wii's but I wont own it myself until later. And considering the way it's selling the price cuts soon will make it an easier game to ask for
