This topic is about the just released Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels on the Nintendo Wii Virtua Console, played with the Classic Controller.

First of all let me make this clear:

I love games that offer a challange.

I also do not care that you warp back to level 1-1 everytime you go game over.

But I do care that the controlls of this game are totally off!!!

Like Super Mario World on the VC, running should be Y and jumping should be B, this way you can easily run and jump at the same time.

But - god knows why - jumping is set on a and x, this makes it quite impossible to run and jump and the same time, which makes this game, at least for me, impossible to play.

The lad porting this game to the VC probably has no game experience what so ever, and I think it's a real shame because the game itself rocks!

Or am I the only one that holds down the run button constantly while playing Mario platform games?

EDITx5: typo's and such

I know what you're saying.. I tried to play Super Probotector (Contra) with the GC controller. The GC controller doesn't allow me to jump and shoot at the same time, which made it unplayable for me. Well.. not "unplayable" but a lot harder. The classic controller is perfect, though.

I run a lot in Mario games, by the way.

Then get ready for a mayor disappointment if you plan on buying The lost levels!

Because I am playing it with the classic controller!

Is Lost Levels a game that requires only two buttons?  I don't know the answer to that, which is why I'm asking.  If it is, then the Wii Remote is the best alternative.  I don't see why that wouldn't work because I have no trouble using it.  Maybe I'll download it myself and check it out.

Same doubt, you onl require 2 buttons, how can this be a problem with the wii-mote?

The japanese have a point about americans being whiny gamers. 'I don't like the wii remote cause the buttons are too small and close together'. Gimme a break, you clearly aren't old enough to have played with the original NES paddles with the sharp edges and just as small and close together buttons. If you're gonna whine about using the classic controller, just delete the game, it only costs 5 bucks so you didn't even pay enough to have a right to whine.

the wiimote on its side should be fine. You say you dont like it, but I bet you wont mind after you played it.

Maybe you never had a NES? Because you're supposed to put the tip of your thumb on the B button (the 1 button on the wiimote), and then press A/button 2 by tilting your thumb onto it. Then, in places that require using A a lot but not B, just switch to the tip of your thumb on A. I'm guessing you know this, but I just had to say it in case you didn't

Lost levels is a great game, I had it easy though, I played the All-Stars compliation pack for the SNES, and in that you could save by the level (and it had upgraded visuals :)).

I bought the game directly from Nintendo and paid the full price;

how does that give me not a right to "whine"?

And is it so strange to expect that they put the buttons correctly for the clas-sic controller?

Perhaps this is why I look down on many of the games developed by Japanese companies. I absolutely love first party nintendo games, but many conventions that can be found in PC games are completely unavailable.

How is this different than the first SMB on VC? That game controlled just fine.

I bought the classic controller to play VC games, is it to much to ask to copy the controlls scheme from Super Mario World which worked just great with the Classic Controller?

Don't you realize that SMB controlled exactly the same as the lost levels? I still don't understand the problem. That control setup works great on all controller setups.

Yeah he is just another one who complains the controls are broken when he is the one who is broken. Lost Levels 2 is one of the hardest games in existance think a sadist designed it.

Its just the same as the original NES controller, a is to run and b is to jump. What do you want? I can play SMB just fine with the Classic Controller, but it makes more sense to use the Wiimote sideways. Besides, just using the Wiimote takes less battery power.

Super Mario Bros Lost Levels is controlled by the same way that you play on any NES games. Play them with the wiimote. SMB Lost Levels has the same gameplay as Super Mario Bros: to jump, pressA and runwas the B button. B= 1 buttonand A =2 on the wiimote. It's nothing wrong to not play a NES game with the wiimote. Play the SNES games with the c lassic controller. The CC was meant for the SNES games.

that just means that is playable with that controller. Like Castlevania is with classic and GC controller. But playing this game with other that a wiimote is pointless.

Why do you want to use a controller that has around 8 buttons if you just need 2.??? :? *sigh*

You should try a Hori Digital pad. It was a snes looking controller made for the Gamecube. It has a great D-Pad and the B and A buttons are next to eachother like in the NES controller. This is what I use to play Super Mario Bros with as I think the wii remote buttons are too small and the classic controller buttons aren't idea for this particular game. It also is pretty good for some Gamecube games like the Sonic Mega Collection and most other retro compilations or games that don't have analogue control.

This game has definitely NOT come out on the VC in the states. I check the VC every monday to see what gets added and this is not on there. I really doubt Nintendo would have made itthat play. Or maybe they did and maybe thats why this game never came out in the States in the first place.Thats why we got the other Super Mario Bros. 2 where you canplay as mario, luigi, toad and peach
