I had this problem yesterday for a bit, but then after a few tries, I stopped, came back and it worked just fine. Then I joined a friend's game, played at the community page for a bit, and had no issues. I wonder if the error is really just the servers being swamped maybe? Mario Kart DS had troubles when it first launched, because it was overflowing with activity. yoshi_64I sincerely hope so. I've tried at my campus too and no go. If Nintendo has no clear solution I'm worried. I've gotten into a handful of matches, the annoying part is how long it takes to tell you something went wrong. I've probably logged about 1 hour play time into it just waiting for it to give me an error message.
When you set your 3DS to a static IP did you do that on the 3DS or on the router?TankZorzWell, what I did so in the router, and the 3DS. I told the 3DS to look for an certain IP, and then told the router to allow that IP to be outside DMZ. The Nintendo Tech actually did for me this time, and it kept giving a not-connecting to server error. What I'm going to do is try the same thing again later, and reset the router, erase all internet settings and try it again. The issue was when the Nintendo Rep put my 3DS IP outside DMZ the 3DS would connect to the internet, but the Mario Kart error code would change from 006-0612, to a 005 no server code.
Before you go through and reset everything, try undoing the DMZ changes that the rep made but keep the static IP in the settings on the 3DS. Just set the router back up like you normally have it. Also, make sure the static IP on your 3DS is outside the range that your router normally assigns to other devices on you network. For example, if you have 10 devices that connect wirelessly, they will normally take up the numbers 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.10 (the numbers on yours may be a little different). In order to prevent any IP address conflicts, you would need to set the static IP on your 3DS to at least 192.168.1.11 but just to be safe maybe assign a number in the 20s.
Don't make the router assign the IP to the 3DS, enter it manually into the 3DS.
I've heard people say that assigning the 3DS a static IP has helped with the connection issues. Messing with the settings on the router may only be fouling things up.
Thanks, I'm going to be trying a plethora of potential solutions and if yours should prove to be the successful one I sing your praises. Before you go through and reset everything, try undoing the DMZ changes that the rep made but keep the static IP in the settings on the 3DS. I'm not sure, the Nintendo Rep didn't do much with the Ports, we went to that page on my router settings, and he said my ISP may block some ports, yes. But that's all we did, we didn't set any ports to the 3DS exclusively or anything. I may try this later tonight, thanks.I've heard about some ISPs blocking some ports. I guess you should give them a call. Anyways how did you portforward it? I portforwarded my 3DS' static IP to all protocols from start port 1 to end port 65535.

I just got off customer support with Nintendo, I let them access my PC from their location, and the rep tried everything we could think of. Now, everytime I try to play MK7 online I get either "communication error has occurred" or the infamous "006-0602" error. The Nintendo rep tried setting my 3DS to a static IP, setting it outside the DMZ, we've tried MAC filtering, pretty much everything and while all other internet functions work o the 3DS at all times Mario Kart 7 matchmaking always results in an error. I know numerous other people are having this issue, and I was wondering if anyone has heard of a solution. The Nintendo rep said there is a possibility that my service provider (Time Warner) only allows certain ports to be used at all times, and that I should contact them to find out. Has anyone gone this far with it? And does anyone know if all other internet devices are off, would the ports respond better to my 3DS? i'm hopeful we can find a solution for the all the people that want to continue playing MK7 online (I've gotten into a few matches but overall i'd say 98% of the time it doesn't)bonesawisready5
Never happened to my MK7, can't help
I tried that with the Nintendo Rep (actually the Nintendo Rep did it FOR me) and then I kept getting Server errors in MK7. Last Night I got into a few rounds of MK7, so it seems to be hit/miss with a leaning towards hit the last day or so.Have you tried configuring the modem/router's DMZ setting to the 3DS' IP? It should give the 3DS unrestricted access to the Internet.

I have to correct my previous solution! The Security Mode for the wireless on the router doesn't have to be (WEP 64 bit) to make MK7 online works! The thing is that whenever I put a password on the wireless that contains only numbers, MK7 online doesn't work and gives me an error! But when I tried to make the password contain a capital letter, a small letter and numbers (for example: Aa1234567) MK7 connects with no errors, and I play online with no problems! So it doesn't matter if my wireless Security Mode is (WEP 64 bit) or (WPA).. I just had to make the password as I said.
I wrote this for whoever searched and tried everything without any good result.. Because I searched A LOT and tried everything.. until I discovered this and wanted to share it with everyone..
I really hope it works for you!
