well I got my wii on its release date (or a few days after) and I really had high hopes for it... but it seems that every game that came out for the most part was an "epic failure" or at least any game that was really hyped up... for example wario ware... I understand perfectly well what the game was attempting to do... and it does amuse you for a few days but smacking your but to dances and pretending to balance brooms on your hand can only last for so long...generally the game had no overall "value" even with my little brothers or friends...

then theres zelda which so far is the only "generally good game" produced by nintendo for the wii so far... sadly zelda will not last over 5 months no matter how hard you try to stretch the game out... and sure I can play it again and again... but thats like watching a really good movie repeatedly... after a while the movie loses its "greatness" so its something that has to be beaten like twice or three times a year just to have it keep its "value"...

after this there were other hyped games such as spiderman 3 and the new recent alien syndrome both of them seem to be doing horribly... and only getting worse...

generally I don't feel like going over each and every game... but it seems nintendo has really messed up when they stated "graphics don't matter, its all about the gameplay , and essentially motion controls are a new form of gaming/rule"

ever since then companies have simply gone and created horrible looking games (or at least most of them were of course there are some good looking ones but lets be honest with ourselves) not only that but it seems like they don't even try to put any true effort into it.... it seems that from what I've witnessed game creators hype up a game till a lot of people want it.... and they show cutscene films or nothing at all except for a few hand drawn idea pictures.... then when its released tuns of people go and buy them.... with this seein the game companies haven't spent a lot of money making the wii games they'll be making a lot more money then a game of such low quality should ever make and then they use all their surpluss cash for top notch ps3/360 titles...

essentially I feel like I'm being suckered or "hustled" now we all have seen what the wii is capable of to this point.... it may not be great from what we've seen it shows the wii is capable of at least that... I mean they should attempt to put in an effort to at least look roughly around xbox level... Scareface the world is yours for example is at least xbox level showing that it can be done....

I mean when the only joy I get out of my wii is from VC titles its pretty bad... someone please convince me the wii is more than just a bunch of false hype

Well I had the same problem as you. I felt a doubt when later on when I got my Wii. But im just waiting for the big games to come out, I recently bought Re4 and im having fun with it.

...I cant convince you to keep playing your Wii so you might want to consider it as a secondary console.

The only thing what you can really do (like what everybody else had said) is wait for the bigger titles to come out. If they for some reason just completly flop on the Wii, then that's the end of the Wii and Nintendo.

What I usually do when I'm about to buy a Wii game is to make sure I'm not buying a real kiddy game. After buying WarioWare I learned that mistake. If you're looking for a fun single player game... I definetly suggest Excite Truck. You said you have a brother who plays the Wii too right? I was never really a big racing game fan, but when I played Excite Truck... I thorougly believed it was one of the best games I ever played. No joke. It's very simple, but that's what makes the game great. My brother, friends, and I would always try to complete single player together, trying to score S-class in every race to unlock new modes and trucks(it took us easily over 40+ hours and we're still not there yet!)This game definetly utilize the Wiimote perfectly... to turn the truck you have to turn the wiimote, and it's very easy to pick up.

But what I think truly makes the game great is that you can add your own music with an SD Card (get one at your local computer store if you don't have one). It adds a completly different feel to the game. If you know the song One Winged Angel from the Final Fantasy Advent Children movie, then you should try playing the game with that song... it gives me goosebumps everytime!

Also another great single player game I just completed is Trauma Center and now I can't wait for the sequel to come out with 2-players.

One last thing, if you only have one wiimote, I definetly suggest getting Wii Play. Although the game is very short and simple, its only $50 and it comes with a wiimote, so really you're only paying $10 for another game and it gives you a reason to have another wiimote. Try and play some two player wiisports, it's very different.

Hope this helps... I know exactly what you're feeling, but these games cured me from the dissapointment of the Wii. Now to find new games to last me until the end of August.

Spiderman 3 was kinda hyped, but not really...

Alien Syndrome wasn't hyped by any means...

I'm really enjoying my wii, but I'm not going to try to change your mind. The only thing I have to say is that the next few months are going to be awesome for the wii and if you sell yours, you'll be sorry.

2 months ago i would have completley 100% agreed with you, but something saved me, and i will save you!

Think about this, what 360 or ps3 games are being offered that are amazing excluding shooters or online games? Hardly anything, true gaming doesnt lie in graphics or online, it lies in good spirited gameplay with local multiplayer to play your friends and family, that is how it always worked. Once again, i know how you are feeling about graphics, ya you just entered the current gen and you see hardly anything has changed graphically when looking at the wii, however this is where wii is smart, the graphics arent really what makes the game good, as long as you can pull off the fundementals, you can achieve the same experience, for instance look at COD 3 for wii and the other consoles, wii may not look as good, but it does the same gameplay, and when you are playing you wont mind if the graphics arent super, infact it's funner with the motion, imagine a wii with really good graphics! that would put sony and microsoft out of business cause then the wii would be in zero question, enjoy your wii, nintendo is winning andknow what they are doing, plenty of good games just look!

Wii is overhyped. There's simply no denying it. To a non-gamer, it's something that we've experienced pretty much our whole lives - it's not that big a deal for us. But to them, it's like something they've never touched. Wii is a success BECAUSE it can give joy to these sorts of people.

On the flipside, there's still a ton of quality hardcore content coming. Unfortunately a lot of it is pretty dull and there's still the odd developer now shoe-horning in some crappy port or some game that's been in development for half a year.

Please make your decision until the END of the year when there's a whole stack of hardcore content that sure to satisfy. But if there isn't, then the wii isn't for you.

Pick up Mario Strikers Charged, NFS Carbon, and DBZ:BT2. That'll hold you over until Metroid Prime 3. In October, you can pick up Zack & Wiki and BWii. You can run those until Fire Emblem 10, then head off to SMG and DBZ:BT3. From there, you've got a month until SSBB. That's 10 games in the next 5 months.

EDIT: Completely forgot about Godfather and RE4. Also Madden 08 (in 17 days) and Tiger Woods 08 (in 31 days). So make that 14 games in the next 5 months.

Actule gamers are being left out in the dark by nintendo, its all about 5 year olds and soccer moms i guess.

Acidrain1988

Now, as a 21 year old college student and game writer, do I fit under the category of 5 year old? Or should I file myself under soccer mom?

Honestly, come up with something new. These same old jeers aren't cutting it.

I can guarantee you that Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and of course Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be awesome. But it is true, alot of games for the Wii are either quite bad or they don't have alot of replay value, but I go with seeing them, trying them, and getting opinions. I've had 12 Wii games so far, but 4 of them didn't last me a long time. I got rid of Red Steel, Call of Duty, and Trauma Center, for they didn't have much appeal to me after a while. Sonic and the Secret Rings was good, but there wasn't so much variety to it, and sold it to a friend for $35. If I may, some games that are fun and have lasted me for quite some timeand I don't see myself getting rid of soon are Super Swing Golf, Godfather: Blackhand Edition and Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. Trust me, if you sell your Wii now andwhen the big titles come out, you will regret it later for sure.

a 21 year old game who thinks taking old ideas like the power glove, the zapper, and the power pad, (all made by nintendo many many years ago) strapping them with new, still not far enough technology, is some how "changing the face of gaming" and " omg so innovative"

Go ahead and sell your wii. I don't really care what you do tbh. If you don't like it you don't like it. I'll still be playing the wii at the end of the day though.

Like upping horsepower in a system is new? Ever heard of the 1965 prediction, Moore's Law? More power under the hood doesn't mean better games.

Either way, graphics vs gameplay, the reason a person should buy a console is for the games. And as I see it, there are more quality games hitting the Wii by the end of this year than there are for both the other consoles combined.

In case you wanted to know, the Zapper runs on different technology. It's based on a color recognition system, rather than a coordinate system.

Alien Syndrome and Spider Man were not hyped(I didnt even know there was a Spider Man game for Wii).

Considering you didnt mention Super Paper Mario I would suggest you get that, RE4 and Mario Strikers Charged(comes out Monday), then use those to hold you over til MP3, after that there should be plenty of games to get.

And hey if you dont want any of those games go buy another console.

I'm definetly going to pick up strikers when it comes out... I've destroyed DBZ BT2 simply because the AI is retardedly easy.... even on its hardest difficulties... I mean the fights last a while due to high health and I like having 3 on five matches me being three suck humans against the 5 top people from dbz.... lol thats always fun ... hopefully strikers will last until mp3.... that way I can see "which way the wiis going".... cause as stated right now my wiis only a gc with VC games (and a couple wii games but mainly cube ones) I'm not sure what zack and wiki is... and NFS Carbon is alright.... its just not my "type of game" sure I love a good race, but hopefully you get where I'm going... like most people I'm guessing.... the one game that depends on my keeping my wii or giving up on nintendo (which is basically the company that I grew up with since nes) is if brawl BWii and MP3 is indeed successful mario not so much due to the fact I know I'll enjoy it.... but I can already tell you the plot of the game before its out....as anyone could I'm definetly going to try and wait till the end of the year before I make my final decision... allthough it may be hard with a cousin calling me and constantly telling me about his ps3 (which I'm going to buy this year closer to christmas...) and my brothers/friends trying to tell me to sell my wii it may be a bit hard....

I'll look into excite truck and I doubt I can play super paper mario till MP comes out because I can't drag that type of game out for that long....

sure RE4 wii edition for the wii is great... but it seemed to me more like it was an attempt to give the wii a sense of new life seeing it was becoming a "dying fire".... sort of something just to keep the people who were starting to feel "the wiis emtyness" from breaking off of nintendo....

now look I love kids, they're cool...hell my little brothers are kids lol... but all nintendo is doing is making a bunch of kiddy games... I watched the E3 conference (spelling) and when Reggie (I think thats his name) tried to bring up the "whole issue on that" he simply showed either A. adults playing kids games and having fun... or the few games that are anticipated on these forums.... now I'm not saying bring me slaughter goats 4000 but I am saying bring me something with a little edge that people around my age would consider "good fun" quite frankly I don't want to stand on a machine and pretend to hoola hoop when I can go into my garage get a hoola hoop and go out into the backyard and do it there.... don't need a machine to weigh me because that what the scale in my house does... the wiis motion controls are appearing to be before its time seeing you can only do certain motions, which was cool for the first few games... but then when every game after it is just waving the wiimote back and forth or up and down or in and out without doing much else.... well that isn't fun nor does it add onto gameplay infact it takes away from it...

I can't seem to find the right game yet for the wii, allthough the one I play most (out of my wii games) seems to be DBZ BT2 for some reason but thats just because fighting games almost always tend to have an extremly high replay value

to Lone_Wolf I in no way mean to offend you but your looking at the wii though a "fanboy perspective" at least acknowledge the wii has faults.... and if the wiis alien syndrome isn't hyped at all then tell me why when you click the "wii" section at gamespot that the entire background is covered in alien syndrome advertisement... just look at the issue in its entirety because when you say crap like that the game designers feel that hey... they still play it... lets just keep it up, since they're not complaining we don't have to improve... (generally you make them feel that if it ain't broke then don't fix it)

even though I didn't say that upfront.... and I do like the wii (or at least am attempting to... and want it to succeed) dragonball3900 (thus the reason I still have one and I didn't put this topic in systemwars because I wanted oppinions and from those who possess a wii) what I will say is that in the past the "fateful gamers" or "real ones" were always the "first to be fed" in a sense or the people that were satisfied first ... then afterwards there would be a few games for the casual gamer or new gamer.... nintendo has literally inverted that formula so now there are tuns of games for the casual/ new/ old person / whatever gamer and not so many for the "ol' faithfuls" over and over again for the past 2 or so years I've constantly heard those same titles said over and over again... I have yet to hear any others.... which means what happens after those titles have been released? when MP3 gets to the point you know the game... zelda lasted me a while... but not to long... and out of all of those titles you mentioned (seeing you didn't mention strikers) only ssbb and bwII are the only things that are going to truly "last" because the others are more or less like a movie... its something you do every so often.... not "start it back up again right after you beat it" I'm looking for what wii has stated it offers... which is games with great/fun gameplay and high replay value.... so far the only couple games I found that have even a trace sign of that have been third party games (other than zelda of course... and I haven't tried paper mario is it really as good as people say/ how long could it possibly last) ...

I'm not saying the Wii doesn't have its faults, either. But I don't buy systems for their bells and whistles, I buy them for the games. My particular tastes shifted me to the Wii over the other two systems. Like I said in a different topic, I don't buy a console unless I know there are going to be at least a dozen titles that interest me. And I haven't found half a dozen games for the other two systems to make me pull out my wallet. It may mean missing out on 3 or 4 titles across the system's life, but I'd rather miss those few titles than spend the money on a system that's not going to get much use.

I personally don't play a lot of FPS games. Both the PS3 and the 360 seem to boast their shooters. But when the time comes that I do want to play a shooter, I boot up DOSBox and play some Blake Stone. Or pop in a DOOM or DOOM II CD and play some of that. An hour or so of that, and I'm pretty much set for a while. I know those systems probably have more than that; but as they're boasting those particular titles, I can't help but feel that is their focus for gaming.

lol of course all bleach games are great to bad they'll be cutting some of the chars out... but as long as they have ikkaku and his bankai I'll be happy also not that I want to be an ass... but your prior statement with a general message of why do I care what you do with your wii in a topic in wich I'm asking to be convinced to keep it so I can get other oppinions other than my friends/brothers/ cousin was a bit uneeded

I generally agree with you.. allthough I don't need a dozen games to convince me maybe five or six ut not 12 and I thought I had those titles chosen and the games did interest me its just once released they ended up "floping" or being a lot worse then my "hyped expectations" (spelling)

maybe you should just buy a 360 and xbox live. it seems you're looking for replay value and multiplayer games offer replay value the most(I always find myself going back to online games such as mario kart, GOW, etc...). And like you already said check out MSC. I'm not bashing single-player games(I love single player games)in any way, but I myself find multiplayer games more long-lasting.
