No. People won't buy a game that looks like this in a store. The majority of window shoppers would dismiss it as a crappy game that belongs in the 80s.

But on WiiWare, for a cheap price, people might buy it off of name recognition. And lots of people will buy it for nostalgia.

My guess is that most of the people in this forum didn't grow up with Megaman like some of us did. They grew up with the truly crappy sequels that can't hold a candle to the originals. I can't even guess how many times I beat the first six games in one sitting each. I absolutely loved them when I was a kid.

This announcement made my day. I can't wait. :D This is the kind of thing that makes me very excited about the possibilities of WiiWare and other download services - it gives developers an incentive to work on new old-school styIe games.

Maybe they wanted Mega Man to look like the Mega Man of old... 8-bit and beautiful. I'm sure the dev team is working hard on it.

But don't you think that the next installment that is reviving the series should be a retail game instead of a Wiiware title? Putting the game on Wiiware only seems to significantly hold back development. If the game went to a disc, there's much more space that could be used for anything the devs wanted to do which could* mean a higher quality game with more content.

I think the new Wario game is a good example. They kept it 2D (like Mega Man) but they put it on a disc so they would be less constrained. The devs can put more into the game, and it seems faithful to the originals. I think it shows that they are serious about the game whereas if they had put it on Wiiware it would seem to me that they aren't going to put as much in the game as they could.

If they put the game on a disc, it would prove, to me at least, that they are serious about reviving the main series.

If there was any reason for MM9 to be a 30 million dollars budget, stellar looking game, yes. But for a game that has to be a simple 2D action game that doesn't require 1% of a DVD space, no. It's not even commercially possible.

I know why you feel. But this isn't the "next gen Megaman", neither in flesh, neither in soul. It's, by all means, a NES game. NES games can't afford to be on shelves anymore.

They could. I already explained why I think they chose not to in my post that you quoted. It's not lazy unless the gameplay ends up sucking. They chose the NES look for a reason. And it's not like it's only a little similar to the NES games - it looks just like them. It was a conscious design decision. To me, that proves that this team is serious about making a cIassic Megaman game that will be just as good as its NES brethren.

What possibly could be that much better if the game had upgraded graphics? First of all, it does cost more to have higher resolutions, more detailed backgrounds, and more frames in animations. They're working on a $15 game, max, though it'll probably be less than that. And it's full length. Budget is a factor, there's no denying that. But all signs so far point to this being a game born out of love for the series, not a quick cash-in. Accuse the team of being lazy after you've played it if it sucks that much.

Well said. This is a very exciting announcement. There's nothing lazy about it unless the game overall just turns out bad. This is for the fans (and newcomers alike, of course) who think that Mega Man is dying out. Reviving some of his best moments in gaming and creating an all new adventure with the NES look goes to show, as JordanElek said, that they're serious about making a classic Megaman game that will be just as good as its NES brethren.

Wow, if you had told me that in 2008 Capcom would be making an 8-bit game, I would have thought you were nuts.

Still, as someone who has grown up with with the 8-bit Blue Bomber, this is like a dream come true. I can't believe Capcom would do this, but I'm sure as hell going to buy it.

It takes a lot more effort to make such game. Trying coming up with solid gameplay on a 8 bits console and say again the dev is lazy.

haha I can see it now, "Sega confirms Sonic 4 (32bit gfx), Nights 2 or (3) (64 bit gfx), and Toe Jam n Earl (32 bit gfx. All with added motion control and online modes!"

Trust me, I grew up with the Blue Bomber....But imo, MM was in his prime when X1-3 were out. I never owned a ps1 or 2 so I never played the new ones.

If they would'a announced X10 or whatever...now that would've been sweet, I will still pick this up though. If they make it anything close to MM2, this game will be the most downloaded game since SMB.

It's a WiiWare release, and it is a brand new game. So it is higly possible it will cost more.

Just wait until a couple more screens come out. Or until the magazine with the screens come out. Then Mega Man 9 will be ripped apart with the "old" and "it's not 3-D" graphics.
