There is no online multiplayer in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the 3DS.
If you look at the 3DS boxart, you'll notice that there's no Nintendo Network logo at the corner.

Games with the orange N at the corner of the box art has online multiplayer.

You can connect to the internet to download free DLC quests, but that's it.

Cheers for the confirmation - looks like its off the purchase list. Crazy decision not to include it.

I've played about 30 hours of it so far, with online play I'd probably be nearing the 100 hours mark at the moment. Stupid Capcom. Gonna get MH4 for sure since it has online.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate, but I still had fun with it (just reach 550 hours). My social life would have been nonexistent if I owned the Wii U version. Hunting with friends can be much more fun than hunting solo and it makes the game a lot less tedious, especially in G-Rank.

Now we wait for the worldwide release date for MH4. Online and portability, here I come! :D

Yeah, it's pretty annoying. I was just about to order it.  I'll give the demo another go, but I really wanted it for the online.

Most people on the Monster Hunter forums complain how the Monster hitpoints don't scale for when you have multiple players. So they are killing the hardest guys in like 10 minutes. That sucks. Whereas on the 3ds with no Wii-U friends, i'm battling these beasts for 40-49 minutes on G-Rank and it is AMAZING! Seriously, i'm not sure if i've felt more satisfaction in all my gaming than killing G-Rank Deviljho with 6 seconds left in the quest (and 2 carts already)! You simply won't get that if you just play MH online. You will just farm mobs like 92734234234 times to get your Ruby/Mantle/Gem and it won't feel that great when you get it because you killed the monster so easily in parties of 4. I've logged over 180 hours in it so far and it is the sole reason i bought a 3ds (stupid exclusives). IMO, you are missing out, but i know that many people hate Monster Hunter because it's too hard/clunky controls/dated graphics/etc :) Just my 2cp...

I'm playing the demo some more at the moment. I don't have a circle pad, so controls do feel a bit clunky. Graphics are decent though. Dunno. In two minds now. Animal crossing seems to be the it game right now - but i'm not sure its my thing.
