I was all excited for this game, untill I found out that online play costs wii points. I think this is unfair, especially when it's core is multiplayer. If it is, it should at least have voice chat. (scratch that, NO MATTER WHAT, IT SHOULD HAVE WII SPEAK!)Then again, if it's pay to play, I might not buy it at all. I don't know, I've never played a Monster Hunter game. Is it worth it?

This is really just a poor buisiness desision, because when this game was announced, it seemed as though every wii owner would buy it. Now, everywhere I turn, nobody wants it anymore. They just don't want to pay for it.

PS Email the link to this page to Capcom, get it in their heads that we want F2P

it's not confirmed. it's paid in japan, but since the series isn't that popular here, they want to make it F2P. but even that isn't confirmed yet.

The series has always been P2P in Japan. As for MH1 in the U.S it was free 2 play. Nobody knows if we will have to pay to play on Monster Hunter Tri.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the single player is very deep and excellent according to Famitsu. It should be worth that alone, I think it is.

If they have to make me pay for online then I'd expect the Online to be good!

If it's not then I either

A) Sue Capcom

B) Not play online ever again.

But most likely it'll be free.

I heard this, I heard that, blah blah blah... what's the source?

Why don't you provide us a link where we can read this "news" for ourselves?

(and weep openly if it reveals to be true?)

Since when has it been P2P? As far as I can recall, it's free in JPN and the US. While I'm not positive for Japan, Capcom has confirmed its F2P stateside.

Well, my mistake. I do recall reading a joystiq.com article stating that for the US Capcom would be using its own wi-fi servers and noting charging for play. I just searched joystiq for the article but couldn't find it. If someone could link/confirm that would be great.

as said above.. that is just JP... no confirmation of it yet (unless you found something, that I was not able to) all MH games have being paid in JP and free here... developers understand that NA would not pay for that game as much as JP will... that said, this will pry give us a less online experiece (lags) and I will not hold my breath for wii speak, specially if is free... but hey there is always hope :P

If it is P2P, it would just be for online play. You can still play the single player all you want without any cost (aside from the cost of the game itself). It hasn't been confirmed whether or not the US release will be P2P or not, but it's most likely that it won't be.

For me, to play/buy this game, it will have to:

A. Be fantastic. As in at least an 8.5 on GS.

B. Be online and really good online at that. (Wiispeak isn't necessary unless they charge for P2P)

C. Capture my friends' interests if I'm going to play it with any amount of conviction.

I'm honestly very skeptical about this title. Capcom hasn't really shown that it cares about fixing the problems that have plagued it since it came out. It doesn't really have to. People in Japan go absolutely nuts for it as it is. This means that we will probably get the same product, with the flaws still not fixed or tweaked.

I hope I'm wrong. I really hope this game is every bit as good as its being hyped to be. Capcom will have no excuse if it isn't, and I won't be buying a copy. It'll still be mildly successful in NA, but if it isn't that great, I can't imagine this game selling over a million copies in NA.

Famitsu is hardly a trustworthy publication anymore, especially when it comes to stuff that'll sell buckets and/or companies that will pay for an outstanding review. Anybody remember the Dirge of Cerberus review? Not saying this game is going to suck or anything, but just saying that you can't go by Famitsu these days.

Anyway, I was mildly interested in this game for a while though if I have to pay to play online, it's a 100% no-buy for me.

Famitsu gave it a perfect 40/40, which only like 5 games have ever gotten. And they didn't even include online play in their score. So as a single player experience its amazing. I'm still banking on good online play thoguh, which is the main reason I will be purchasing this title. Wiispeak isn't necessary, but would be nice. Does anyone know if it will at least have some sort of im feature? (need to know weather to pick up texting keyboard or not)

it has to be free in the Us or else it wont do well at all n d they know that. MH is like crack to the japenese so they have no problem charging them but in the states that would be instant suicide for the game if you ask me.

famitsu's been giving 40/40 like candy recently... i'm not sure if they're too forgiving on their reviews or the games simply became too awesome recently.

I really doubt that MH3 will be P2P here in the US. Capcom knows that such a setup could hurt sales of a franchise that isn't really that popular here. So I'm 99% positive that MH3 will be free online play here in the US. The only thing I do question is whether or not there will be WiiSpeak. Whether we get voice chat or not doesn't matter as I think voice chat in gaming is overrated. So this game is a first day buy for me--plus I'm getting the bundle with the Classic Controller Pro!

They've already abandoned the friend codes to make it a more open experience. The only problem is that you and a friend won't be able to just find each other online and play. Capcom has also taken steps to make online play hacker proof.

The game is going to have a hard enought time selling copies as is. If they make it P2P...well that would just be stupid. Don't get me wrong i'm exited for this but i don't know if i'd P2P for the online portion of the game. I'm just hoping they aren't doing the "Pro" bundle just so they can distract us and the P2P us. I love Capcom and i trust them, but they have a habbit of trying to get as much money as the can (RE5 DLC, Phoenix Wright DLC). That aside i can't wait for this! I'm kinda a newbie to Monster Hunter (I played MHFU but was pretty intimidated) so i hope i can play this and find some people online to team up with! Happy Hunting!

It's true that they said there isn't friend codes so you can easily add randoms, but at the same time i'm sure that the game will have or something like Friend Codes so you can add budies.

there's probably an "add hunter to list" thing and then you type your friend's character name to add him... sorta like a gamertag.

It is free to play in US/EU. The lot of you should really be up on CAPCOM's Twitter page, their blogs, and their forums. This information is out there already. New US/EU bundles have also been recently shown/announced with some pretty nice black on black classic contrllers too.

If that was the case then everybody would have to have a unique name. I'm sure it will be like MHFU were you can name your character anything. It's probalby like you said but instead of typing in the hunters name it will probalby have some sort of "Hunter Number" like a Friend Code. This game needs to come out already T-T

It's true that they said there isn't friend codes so you can easily add randoms, but at the same time i'm sure that the game will have or something like Friend Codes so you can add budies.

there's probably an "add hunter to list" thing and then you type your friend's character name to add him... sorta like a gamertag.

If that was the case then everybody would have to have a unique name. I'm sure it will be like MHFU were you can name your character anything. It's probalby like you said but instead of typing in the hunters name it will probalby have some sort of "Hunter Number" like a Friend Code. This game needs to come out already T-T

i don't recall MMORPGs where people can have the same name. MH3 might not be one, but from what we've seen, it sure behaves like one. i'm guessing that either the online hunter needs a different name than the offline one (in case the name's been taken) or it'll have some sort of friend code-like system, like you mentioned.

i don't mind it being pay if capcom puts in effort for great servers wes008

i agree! If it's lag free and abandons the typical friend code system I'll shell out some points for the effort! but i got a job. :P

They've already abandoned the friend codes to make it a more open experience. The only problem is that you and a friend won't be able to just find each other online and play. Capcom has also taken steps to make online play hacker proof.

Finally, a game where Homebrew won't cause online glitches.
