Okay, does anyone esle here avoid ports like the plague?
I guess maybe that's a bit harsh and only the half truth for me, but when I look at a game system, the first thing that comes to mind is it's capabilities and the logic of buying a title onthe specific system.
The only port that I own is Okami, because it makes sense on this system. And I'm sure that there are others (Metroid Prime Trilogy, etc.), but I just have a hard time spending not only my hard earned cash, but my time playing or replaying something that has already been done.
I am not only a bit worn thin with ports, but with franchises as well. I'd really like to see more innovation, like Pikmin did for the Game Cube. New game concepts can only come naturally with the Wii, but I'm sure I speak for many when I wish I would see some new stories developed.
It seems like everywhere you go, you feel like you're in the Twilight Zone and nothing has changed in 25 years, except for technology. Rehash is around every corner you turn these days. New Transformers, new Marvel, new TMNT, new Mario... And while it is cool to see something rebirth in retrospect with new capabilities, it's just getting out of control now.
We have to remember what made these things so amazing in the first place. They told stories that were a fresh breath of air. The Transformers is a great example. Hasbro didn't develop the toys. They bought remaining stock of product and the design rights from Takara, Bandai, Toybox and a few other companies prior lines and combined them into one toy line. Then they hired writers from Marvel Comics to come up with each character, illustrate prototypesand the premise of the story to go with the toy designs. If you can't come up with something, team up! Look at Other M, as an example. It's still an old franchise, but at least it's collaberative.
Quality stems from creativity. Not companies. This is why I have absolutely zero brand loyalty. I am loyal to the individual creative minds that make these stories worthwhile, but nothing more. I'd really like to see a good, all new game that used the systems capabilities and I know I'm not the only one who is waiting.
No more NPC, just create new games.TheColbertthis is my thinking as well. I just want new games, is that so wrong?
