Newsweek article:

http://ncroal.talk.newsweek.com/default.asp?item=552880

Great read

So we know for a fact (was there any doubt???) that MP3 is not gonna be out in June. Furthermore, Reggie is a liar.

Also, this seems to indicate that MP3 may definitely have Online multiplayer.

No, the delays are not to make the game a perfect Metroid game. They are to... SELL BETTER! And what sells games similar to metroid? Online Multiplayer

This article may be hard to read if you are still one of those who like to pretend Nintendo is a quirky indie studio that just cares about games.

Its Nice for someone to call the Nintendo PR machine out....

On the bright side, MP3 could be awsome!

Yeah but things change as far as release dates

I'd also like to point out to the original poster that Metroid is not being held back because of sales. That sales quote is how he judged the last Metroid game and how well it wqas recieved

That was definitely an interesting read. The interviewer had some juevos! Seriously, he was asking the tough questions. Well, I don't know what Nintendo can do to help the 3rd parties sell more games. The 3rd parties just need to get some amazing games on the Wii first. I seriously hope that another first party title comes out in early Q3. *Prays for Smash Bros*

Seriously I really hope they didn't delayed the game that long just to add a friggin multiplayer mode. I really don't give a **** about that tbh, all I want is an awesome single player adventure like the Metroid serie is known for and I'd much prefer if that extra time was spend on improving that as much as possible.

1st when you say something you don't know for fact, or you know can change... thats still lying.
2nd, he tries to dodge a question by implying he was misunderstood about 1st party Nintendo titles. The journalist was good enough to bust him and point out his EXACT quote. He then backtracked cuz he'd been caught ... lying.
3rd, thats not just how HE evaluated MP2, but how RETRO STUDIOS evaluated the game too... Unless he's lying:)

He said

"Where is Metroid? Metroid is not going to ship by June. We've announced all of our games through the end of June. And the fact with Metroid is we want to make sure that that game is perfect. Unfortunately, Metroid Prime 2 didn't live up to our expectations, it didn't live up to Retro's expectations--

Q: Is that in terms of sales or the actual game itself?

From a sales standpoint. I think we were all happy with the product itself. Certainly it won quite a bit of critical acclaim, but the sell-through wasn't what we wanted it to be."

So they want to be better than MP2 in terms of sales... not critical acclaim. You have to read in between the lines with these PR guys.

What if it were good? I mean friend codes cannot compete with the ease of XBL, but what if the Online mode was amazing? Wouldn't play it because of the developer? Odd...

"Well, if we go back and look at the exchange in question, perhaps there was a little misunderstanding there. But in fact, the question was specifically about first party software, because that's what historically has been the drought--and especially given what we've talked about, the interest among people who buy Nintendo platforms primarily being in Nintendo's own games, that was the context. If you look at the answer that you gave, you were speaking specifically in terms of Nintendo products. One of the things that you said--and then I subsequently I said "Is that a read-my-lips pledge?" and you said "Yes"--was that Metroid was going to ship in early 2007. "

Thats called a lie. If you don't know something for an absolute fact don't promise it... I understand that development can change release dates (the game was finished for launch BTW) but the guy the guy made a promise that was beyond his controll to keep. Thats a lie.

Its not such a big deal. I was just hoping people would realize he's a business man, and not a saint. Some goes for all the Ninty suits.

imo a release date is never set in stone really so it's not a lie, just a rough guess to give people a time frame since everybody always bugs for release dates.

Theres nothing wrong with that at all.

I was just trying to dispel any ideas of Nintendo being "good guys" and MS and Sony being "greedy." If it doesn't apply to you then it doesn't concern you. My comments on the subject are directed at fanboys, not level headed gamers.

As long as this has Online i'm inStarFoxCOM

I really don't understand statements like this. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for Metroid Prime 3 to have online multiplayer. However, it won't make or break the game. Even if there is no multiplayer at all in the game, I'm still going to try it out. Why? Because the previous games in the Metroid Prime series are great and I'm sure this one will be no different. The first Prime game had no multiplayer at all, but it was still an amazing game.

I understand that a lot of people want online multiplayer in MP3 to up the replay value, but it's absence will not make it a horrible game. The single player mode is the most vital aspect of a game like those in the MP series. If it's horrible, even a great online multiplayer mode will not be able to save it. However, if the single player is good and the online multiplayer is bad or absent, the game will still be a great one.

Don't write this game off if it lacks online multiplayer, as because there is a huge change you will miss something that shouldn't be missed by any gamer. And that would be a damn shame.

I doubt they are adding online, if anyone else played the multiplayer from MP2 then they know that would be a waste of time.  They are probably doing what they say and perfecting the game so it doesn't turn out to be crap like Call of Duty 3, Medal of Honor, or (from what I've heard) Red Steel.

I doubt that there's enough space in the onboard memory in Wii to patch a game so severely as to add online play.

It's disappointing that Metroid is delayed. Staccat0 is right, Reggie should not make empty promises. It will be hard to take him seriously if stuff like this continues. There is a major game drought and if Nintendo wants to keep the hype machine going, a good game is going to have to come out. Paper Mario looks good but it's not enough until Nov. That'll be a year since launch without anything major which is a big disappointment.
