The wii that they own is beyond fixing and my kids let me know this is the perfect time to upgrade. :-) I'm not liking the 299 price tag for a new wii u when a ps4 is 399, but that's just my thing.

If I could find a good price on a used or refurbished somewhere in the 125-200.00 range, that would be easier to pull the trigger on this system. So I was wondering what you think is a good price for a used 8gb or 32gb model on local craigslist, or online for used/refurbished models.

Cheers!

Here's a few things to remember to soften the blow:

- for $299, you can get a bundle with Super Mario/Luigi U or Zelda WWHD. There are probably other bundles. Plus check your local stores for even more deals.

- you can play Wii games, that should count for something, no?! :)

- if you're a Club Nintendo member, you know about the free eShop games you can get monthly. If you're not a member, I'd recommend you sign up. You get new downloadable games every month. I don't buy that many games but I've already redeemed enough points for 6 Virtual Console games.

The Wii U has been a hit in my family, we all enjoy it. I also have a 360 and a PS4, should that count for me not being biased.

Nintendo's online store is selling a refurbished 32GB model with Nintendo Land for 200$ (205 or 210, I believe). There's been some unboxing videos and it looks like they're essentially sending you a brand new console, as there were no signs of it being a used console.

I'd go that route if you're looking to save some money. Also, give the little bastard a chance. It's some good fun.

This.

Nintendo tests every refurbished Wii U to make sure they work like new. You won't get the 160 Club Nintendo coins (if you care about them), but these refurbished Wii Us are arguably the best deal if you're short on cash but still want a console that's "new" and has the one year warranty. They're also bundled with Nintendoland.

You can also try finding 8GB consoles in stores, but 8GB are not enough if your kids want to buy downloadable games, and you may have to resort to buying an external hard drive much sooner than owning the 32GB.

Thanks for the replies. When we had the wii, I never looked into becoming a club Nintendo member. I think now that they're older that's a good option. I will check out the Nintendo refurb and it looks like best buy is giving a 25.00 gift card this week with purchase...hmmm

It did to me.

Granted, I'm talking about redeeming points, so it's not technically free. But I did mention that in my post.
