My Personal Wii Sob Story - I have horrid luck...

Hiya, lucky Wii-Owning folks!  This is a small sample of my troubles getting a Wii...Enjoy!

I didn't really care much about the Wii until the night before it came out.  It's not really my type of system but I was certainly in the mood for something new (I LOVE my 360 and PC but I cannot sleep at night when there are systems on the market that I don't have).  So I got caught up in all the Wii-Mania and off to Best Buy I went to stand all night.  When they finally gave out tickets the store had 55 Wii's and guess where I was in line...56th

Ever since then I have been calling and ckecking all the local places but to no avail.  It just always seems like I am a step behind.  Take yesterday for example.  I headed off to Best Buy to grab Crackdown at around 5:00PM.  While I was there I did my usual Wii check and of course they had nothing.  I bought Crackdown and headed off to Target in search of a cheap-o DVD rack.  I got a pretty nice 45 DVD tower for 11 bucks and again did the Wii check and of course, nothing.  While I was in the area I decided to check WalMart for a Wii and, well, you know how that one turned out. 

So I get home and arrange my 31 360 games on my new tower and for whatever reason I decide that I want to get a DS Lite.  I already have a DS but I never play it because it bothers me that there's a new one out that I don't have.  I just had to buy SOMETHING and since I can't find a Wii and the PS3 isn't worth the money I thought a new, sleek DS would quench my thirst.  So I call my girlfriend up and ask her if she wants to accompany me for the drive and off we went...Back to Best Buy about an hour and a half since I was just there. 

I walk in and head to the Nintendo area and BOOM!  Wii's all over the place!  By the time I managed to get down the aisle they were all gone!  Right in front of my eyes person after person grabbed a Wii and happily skipped to the register.  I almost lost control.  I was JUST there!!  I then overheard someone talking about how everywhere else had just sold out.  So, thinking that maybe there was a trend here I called WalMart, Target, Gamestop, and ToysRus and all four had just sold out.

So, the second I drove out of the city FIVE stores that I had just checked for Wiis stocked up and sold out during the hour and a half that I was at home... 

I don't think it is quite meant to be with me and the Wii...

And I didn't get the DS Lite either...I was too upset...

I am in freaking Bangor Maine right now!!  I am from Boston but I go to school at UMaine and I never thought it would be this hard to get one up here!  You would be shocked to see how fast they go!  Last week Circuit City advertised in the Sat. paper that they would have some on Sunday.  So I go there when the store opens and they were all gone!  People lined up overnight!  I really thought it would be easy up here because there are very little people and their average income is pretty low.  But I think because the Wii is so cheap it is very desirable here.  There are a ton of 360s and PS3s all over the place.

As for Ebay...I have been looking lately and could get one for about 80 bucks over the normal price but with the luck I am having I'm sure the day I get it they'll have 'em in all the stores!  Plus, I really don't want one THAT bad.  Like I said it's really not my type of system, none of the games seem to apealing, and it lacks online play (big minus for me) but I just want one because I don't have one.  Plus, there will eventually be games that I will NEED to play but unlike the PS3 the Wii price is not coming down for a long, long, long time so there's really no reason to wait.  I can doddle around with Sports and Zelda for now...

Yeah see I had to have one, all my mates call me a fanboy but I tell them where to go. I understand the whole "I don't have one so I need one" thing I'm like that too thats why I pre-ordered a PS3 because undoubtebly it's gonna have games my 360 won't and vice versa. The Wii will have on-line just not yet, and personally its gonna have the best on-line games IMHO Smash Bros, Pokemon & hopefully Metroid Prime 3.

All I can say is I know how it must feel not having something you feel you should but keep looking they'll be back in stock soon I'm sure.

Yeah, I do blow a TON of money on games/systems/computer stuff.  Two days ago I bought PGR3 and The Godfather for 360.  Yesterday I bought Crackdown and tomorrow I'll prolly get that DS Lite and a couple new DS games.  Oh well...It's kind of a waste of money but I enjoy it and you ony live once!

I live in the UK, and I ordered my Wii on 1st November (launch date: 8th December) and didn't receive it until 29th Janurary.

At least I have one now :D

i got mine from gamecrazy because I knew that i'd never find a wii. I pre-purchased it for $5 and waited for about 1 month until they finally called me.. then they hit me with the minor detail they forgot to tell me about.. An extended warranty, a club-membership and a required game purchase later, it all came up to about $370 dollars.. I was a mixed bag of emotions that day, mad for all the extra stuff but happily playing Wii.. haha.

Dont worry my wii is gaining dust now sigh, you could wait for another 4 or 5 months until games like Mario brawl, mario galaxy or metroid 3 comes out. THEN you should get the system, I passed the Zelda game in one week and after that I am simply poking around the wii channels with the virtual console and tried stuff like the new "everybody votes" its got nice controls the wii but we still need the game to try em out!  Well I only got the zelda :S, I am waiting for that sexy game, back to my PS2, Good luck with the Wii.

BTW the wii in Australia for me was soooooo easy to get, Of course I did preorder 2 months before release and I was jumping around like bananas when I opened my package to play Zelda. :D

But seriously its overrated, wait a couple of months until better games get released.

Its not going to happen with the PS3 this time! I will wait until a good amount of 3 games come out for meeee (thinking about Heavently Sword, Asasins Creed, Final Fantasy XIII, MG4 and some other mysterious and great game that will hopefully come out for PS3 and not for X360)

And I am not buying and XBOX360! They destroyed the Gaming Market with Rare, Sega (shenmue 2 and Jet Set Radio... this games only were released for Xbox and werent popular for american players MAIN REASON why we will never see another Jet Set Radio or Shenmue 3) and some other brought companies, screw microsoft and his vista!

That's crazy. My local Target had a ton, and there wasn't anyone there to buy them. The electronics department was empty.

Patience is the key, just keep checking those saturday ads for sunday.  The weather is warming up, its time to go camping.  I hear ya on buying something new, I have the same compulsion.  Should have never got my 360 right away, that system has died on me twice in less than a year.  The wii was worth the wait at toyrsus tho, may I mention it was ten degrees out.  Maybe the worst and greatest two and a half hours spent out in ten degree weather ever by me...
