I find it sad that parents take games to seriously...... I got my first m game when i was 6........ Yes it was fun. But you also have to remenber that its just a game!!!! Yes, i know sometimes the game can get irritating but that just means you need to go outside and get some fresh air and relax play soccer or whatever you like. My mom will buy me M games because she trusts me. It's not like im going to actually take it seriously. Like lets say i'm playing gta4 its not like im going to take the game seriously and go outside and beat the crap out of a old lady with a bat that i apperantly i found magically on the street. COME ON PEOPLE ITS JUST A GAME. If you take the seriously then you need to get some help maybe take a brake and do something else. Plus i think Mario is a great game and parents not letting you get it is just stupid. I find that Mario opens up your imagination and i think its a good thing. It leaves you open to new ideas. :P (o just so you know i dont have gta4 and im not planing on getting it. Cause all its good for is to screw around and put cheats in and fly around with cars at least thats what i did :P)

Ok so what happend was....

I was going to get Wii fit for part of my graduation present, so we went to wallmart, looked around a bit, no Wii Fit, so my grandma asks if I wanted to get another game and get wii fit later so I told her Okami. So we get the Okami game and just as the guy was ringing the game up at the register my grandma asked me if my mom was ok with me getting the game, so she called my mom and I had the game all purchased in the bag and everything, and my mom said no and maybe another time when shes with me. :( So we had to go up to the customer service area and rerturn my game, and to top that off they were a dollar short so now I only have 59$, not 60. =(

comstrikeiscool

Are you saying you didn't count the money when they gave it to you or they ran out of money?

Sometimes stores, usually like to rip you off a dollar or so. And trust me, its no mistake. Happend to me before.

Don't you people count your money? I count it at the grocey store, bank, retail store....always count your money.

Actually, I did count my money as I was walking out of the store, but I didn't think a dollar short is a big deal, I could just go home and find a dollar under my couch or something.

If you have it for the PS2, why get it for the Wii?

Also, your school got out early.

Well I'll add another sad story that Just happened about an hour ago (I don't want to make another Topic about it because it has nothing to do with the Wii), But my friends neighborhood is gone from a huge storm the ripped through Minnesota, a lot my friends live in that area and stuff. enough of the bad stuff lets go to the good stuff! I might be able to get Wii Fit Tomorrow (And maybe Okami if My mom lets me).

That was basically a good and a bad story in one.

EDIT: I actually got some funny things that happend when the storms happend.

That said, my mom let me get the SNES Mortal Kombat 2 when it released, and I was 14 then.

i think it depends as much on the child as it does the parent. If you do well in school, act responsibly and are generally a trust worthy person I think you should be allowed a little more freedom with your purchases. Its only the stupid halfwits that take things like computer games literally and act upon them

I can really relate to you and Wii fit, I had pre-ordered Star Wars Empire At War: Force of Corruption and they went ahead and sold it on me! But my parents wouldn't be restrictive and so I can play mostly any game I want.

We're christians Roman Catholic (me and my family) and my parents doesn't mind me playing M- rated games. When i was 12 i played GTA VC for hours. I'm still 16 now but i have played many M-rated games such as GTA, Max Payne, The Punisher, Company of Heroes, RE 4, NMH, etc. Also, i was one of the quiet and kind types in my HS days :) I rarely committed violent acts. IMO, it all depends on the person if he/she can play M rated games even he/she is below 16. I had a friend who is a girl and she plays GTA. She said to me she doesn't do the missions but instead just kill people and roam around because it's more fun for her. Also, she's one of the kindest girls in my HS days. She was an honor student too. However, she doesn't play anymore since we're already college students.

[QUOTE="banzai_sword"]Your 14 and your graduating from High School... Middle School, ok. Uh, my should have just told your grandma that you talked this over with your mom already and she's perfectly fine with it. Oh yeah and go to court with that, Walmart not giving you all the money back.WiiMan21

I'm not going to lie to my grandma, she bought me a Psp, and a 300$ bike. and shes like really nice n stuff, so I'm not going to lie, but I do like the suing idea. =D

I guess that you never heard of little white lies that never hurt anyone? That's really sad.

This is sad that your mother is so protective, my parents cared so little it bordered on neglect, I remember my favorite movie at 8 years old was Silence of the Lambs, so you can see they had no problem showing me R-rated movies or letting me play mature games, because doing so matured me so that I was far more responsible than other kids my age. But on the other hand, it really depends on who you are, some kids are exposed to the same thing and end up as spoiled little jerks, and grow up even worse. (Just in case anybody is wondering about how I ended up after being exposed to sex(my dad gave me "the talk" in kindergarten)/violence/profanity, I'm in college now, have no criminal history(no tickets even), and neither of my parents have ever heard me use profanity in their lives.) Nurture or Nature, you decide.

TLDR:I played violent games and turned out fine/better than most.

But personally I don't want to play Okami, I mean it's a good game but from what I've seen from it, there's too much magic. But unfortunatley, I'm not even allowed to play any Zelda game, (there was a time where we weren't allowed to play Mario becasue it had too much magic. Sigh, I feel like I'm missing out on life, but it does make life easier.

So your pretty much saying your a saint because you dont play those games. Well guess what we all sin everyday of our lives. No one is perfect and no one can. Yes games are fake and serioulsy who cares. So your pretty much saying its better for us to go out join a gang, deal drugs and shoot real people. Wow you need to back off and look at it from a different view. I think that a person does not become a killer because he has been playing M games. I think its more about your environment you live in and how you live your life. Know dont get me wrong people can come from a bad environment and be a good person and live out a good life. So seriously look at this from a different view. Yes in the bible it does say not to kill other people. But playing games and killing someone in it is just like a though its not REAL! So your not actually commiting anything wrong. I bet your also against magic and stuff like that. Know tell me what are in most disney movies ? Magic and stuff are you against that too? I mean i find that its good to have that in our lives it opens our minds our imagination it opens the door. It is good for us kids when were young. How do you think we have come this far? All the greatest minds in the world used imagination to create stuff like the phone and the lightbulb.

What's really sad is that you feel it's better for him to lie to get a video game. Yeah, he lost a dollar when he returned it -- lesson learned, count your money -- but his mom and grandma were being responsible adults.

No, I'm not saying that I'm a saint. And I don't know how you could have gotten that from what I said. And yes your're probably correct about the environment people grow up in most likely affects if you're going to become a killer/something magical or not. But violent/magical games do have an influence in how you act, "ideas in, ideas out." Several things I've seen could easily be traced back to games. For instance, a person I know once ran up to this other guy and nearly broke his neck, after he played SC:CT. Another person I know has gotten much more violent in every way, after he got GTA LCS on the PSP. What I think is that the only reason you brought in the topic of violent video games is because it's almost impossible to defeat, because people will always say that it's not real, so it doesn't matter. But the bible also says that you shouldn't corrupt your mind. As for the disney comment, if you think it's good to know that and that it will open up our minds, is it also good to learn about every abomination under the sun at such a young age? After all, it'll open up our minds. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the people who invented the lightbulb and the phone both Christians? I highly doubt that they used magic to open up there imaginations. Oh, by the way, I just found out that Penacostal and full gospel are the same thing, my bad.

Games can and can't make you violent know i think they cant but see the problem about thi is you cant prove that your right and your cant prove your wrong. This is just my opinion on these games. I have been playing M games since i was 6. Now my family is very religious too.If i ask my mom for a m game she will give it too me becaue she has seen that i dont take the game seriously and i dont act violently. She i think parents should buy M games for their kids only if they see that the kids are not going to become more violent or anything like that. See my parents trust me with M games because they have seen that i dont change from playing these games. Know yes the bible does say that you shouldn't corrupt your mind but you could be loking at something and not know it but you can be corrupting your mind. Know these are all my opinions i cant prove their right and you cant prove their wrong. This is what i think your friends might have become more violent because of their environment like their parents have fighting our their are some family argues or misunderstandings. You dont if its the game it could be something withn the family because you never know if their family has been going through these conflicts you dont know because people usually wont tell any one and you dont know because you dont live with them. Now these are my opinions. You could be right but we cant really prove or say no thats not true. If people do take these m games seriously they should calm down take a deep breath go outside and take a walk feel the wind in your face! Now i also think that if people are violent then i think it comes from a trait from their parents or their environment. I think that the people who created the lightbulb and the phone were christians i think. But they they probably didn't use magic to open up their minds but they used something else to open up their minds could be anything. These are all my opinions cant say that its true and i cant see its not and neither can anyone else.

lol see this is what i was saying. you think magic is real. it's not. no one used magic to invent anything because THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS MAGIC. you can't play a video game and "open your mind to magic" because there's nothing to open your mind to. Bell and Edison studied science. they were scientists. science is the reason we have modern technology. magic is make-believe. no one can get hurt playing a game with magic as long as they are taught it is not real. for example, if a child plays Superman and then jumps out his window thinking he's gonna fly, that's not cool. but telling your children they should stay away from stories with a fantasy component because they might be exposed to something bad is sending the wrong message. there cannot be anything bad about something that does not exist.

Just because you haven't expierienced something doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. People think that there are aliens, but some people say there isn't any just because they haven't seen one. Also by saying that magic doesn't exist you're saying that sorcery and witchcraft are also not in existence. That means that you don't have a religion. Which makes me wonder, are you an evolutionist?
