Need Some Game Advice

So I'm looking at getting a 3DS XL, the catch is I never bought a DS. There is an absolutely massive backlog of games and I'm not sure where to start beyond a few games I found based on recommendations and some research. The types of games I usually play are RPG, action, and adventure, but I won't play an RPG with excessive grinding. Here is what I have on a buy list so far so far: 

Fire Emblem: Awakening
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Tales of the Abyss
Final Fantasy Tactics: A2
Chrono Trigger
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (never played this one before, does it hold up well?)

Also, I played the Pokemon games to death when I was a kid, so I'm not touching one of those until the 3D ones roll out later this year.

Dunno why you're getting Final Fantasy Tactics: A2... if you're wanting some DS games, maybe get Dragon Quest IX and Ghost Trick.

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is a damn good game. The story is kinda boring but the gameplay is great. I am hoping for a sequel. There is also the new Fire Emblem just out now as far as strategy games.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective.
Ace Attorney series
CastleVania 3DS games (action adventures with RPG elements)
Kid Icarus: Uprising (my GOTY last year)

And while it isnt a game in any of the genres you listed. Advance Wars is fun, and you like Fire Emblem too so I will suggest Advance Wars: Dual Strike.

Edit: Ocarina of Time holds up pretty well, it has aged a bit, but the overall sense of exploration is still there and I did enjoy it last time I played it (on the 3DS).
