as excited as i am for this game. it is disappointing to see that all Nintendo has done with this game(in terms of visuals) is re-texture it & replace the models. its obviously using the same engine (or a very slightly modified version) of the N64 game. Essentially its a ROM hack. It reminds me of what RARE did with Perfect Dark remake for the 360. Idk maybe they are doing this because they dont want this game to overshadow the next true 3DS Zelda game. I hope thats the case. Other than that can't wait t play it :)

I'm also disappointed, I expected a bit more after seeing the Resident Evil games...
I love the vibrant colors, but I go crazy whenever I see that the fences or Jabu-Jabu's teeth are still as thin as cardboard. C'mon Ninty! It's 2011, MAKE THEM THICK! :x

You can notice it where Saria's left hand is placed:

True, but with the new graphics I rather see link get crushed with thick teeth than sliced through with thin teeth, just my honest opinion.

The big changes for the remake of RE1 were far more necessary than changes for this game.

thin teeth are as strong as cardboard and thus break when they try to slice through link.

In the right picture Link actually has the Goron Braclet on - nice touch.

Still don't understand why they have to mirror Master Quest or why they need a Super Guide...I didn't when I was a kid and I still beat the game. :?

Hope they have more hidden surprises in store though, just a reskinned OoT and Master Quest isn't that big. Though either way I'll still be buying it. :P

in defense of the mentally handicapped like moi, i've used a walkthrough (though not on video) more than once to beat OoT. then again i didn't have anyone to talk with about it, exchange info and stuff.

To me Ocarina 3D looks like what the game could look like on the Dreamcast or PS2. I don't see a reason why they should use an entirely new engine. And it's much more than a mere rom hack.

I think the Super Guide is one of the best innovations to come along in some time. The threshhold for activating it is fairly high (usually you have to fail a level upwards of 8 or 9 times to trigger the Super Guide), and it's entirely optional. It's a nice safety net, because there are number of games over the years where I would get stuck on a really challenging level that I simply could not beat, which usually ended up with me shelving the game for good and eventually selling it. With the Super Guide, I can get past the frustrating bits and get back to having fun, which means that I'm more likely to stick with a game until I've seen the end.

Im not really surprised. I mean making an entirely new engine for this would had been too costly in terms of fixing bugs and other problems. Miyamote obviously didnt want to change it too much in fear that that older adience, the people who played the original OoT, would dislike the changes made and that thenew adience would never understandwhat madethe original OoT was so great.

Yeah... don't really get the complaints. It looks a lot better, includes a mirrored Master Quest (which will increase the difficulty somewhat)... I really didn't expect them to rebuild the game from the ground up. They updated it and it looks great.

As far as the guides, I think it's a great idea. The way Ninty has been doing this is really smart... they can continue to make games challenging, yet include features like this so that the challenge doesn't deter the casual crowd they're trying to bring in and hold onto. Of course, we're all pro gamers that never need help with anything and we all beat OoT in 15 minutes on our first playthrough, blindfolded, with one hand... but there are people that can't deal with challenging games, and this way they aren't left out. Everybody wins.

I'm assuming it means they did the same thing they did when porting Twilight Princess to Wii... the whole world will be a reversed, "mirror image" of the original. So, for instance, a town that was on the right side of the map will now be on the left.

If we are judging the 3DS's graphical with that of the GameCube, then it shouldn't be odd that we see 2d plane surfaces and faked 3d. These techniques are still being used with the technology of current gen consoles, no surprise there. It should, although, be as good graphics wise as the Wind Waker.

What are you talking about? GameCube had real 3D graphics. It was the N64 which used a lot of faked 3D.

actually the N64 also used real 3D graphics. the SNES and its Mode7 were the fake 3D ones (best example being StarFox)

Unless it's displayed stereoscopically, all 3D is faked using tricks of perspective which make 2D surfaces appear to have depth. This is true for all games whether they are on the SNES or PS3. Looking at a 2D display is like looking at the world with one eye. You don't actually see 3D but you unconsciously use your knowledge of the sizes of different objects and their relation to other objects to calculate distances. Stereoscopic 3D actually gives the display depth which is one reason it's so effective in Pilotwings Resort. Without the 3D it's more difficult to judge distances to objects floating in the air because you have no other objects in the area to use as references.

seems like someone decided to go down the "technically" route for no reason at all

it's rendered in 3D, with polygons. so what if it's still a flat image? it still has the 3 dimensions.

the Mode7, on the other hand, did the technique of creating false depth like cartoons do: by making objects bigger/smaller depending on their distance, creating the illusion of getting closer to something.

I get a little annoyed when people start calling different things "real" or "fake" 3D when it's all faked. Polygons don't make it real.

yes but you know exactly what we mean. and you know we know it too, so there's no point in throwing that.

it's not like you get picky on the USA's name. i mean, brazil is a country that happens to be a bunch of states united and it's in america. everyone born in america (the continent) is american.

you don't go "oh you mean united states of north america except canada, where the USNAECans live?".

also, did you use to say that "oh it's not real 3D" back in the PS1/N64 days? because i find it hard to believe.

When I first posted, I was thinking about a thread where people were arguing that the 3DS didn't show real 3D because people with one eye couldn't see it. Some of that annoyance may have transferred over to this thread... oops. This is getting way off topic but... I agree wholeheartedly that we are all Americans. I generally keep quiet about that though because I'm visiting the SE corner of the U.S. and don't want to get beat up by some ignorant yokel. Anyway... OoT is definitely going to be a must buy. Even if I don't plan on using all the new features, I will get a chance to replay a fun game that I never beat on the N64.
