Exactly, The game at first glance looks excellent, but when you pay attention, you see the auto aim in full glory and it just turns it in to a pointless button masher. Push 1 to win. That was easy.

It's mimicking the way Super Metroid works, but in 3D. You have to at least be facing and lined up with the enemy. It doesn't take much skill, but neither did killing enemies in Super Metroid.... I'm really looking forward to the simplicity. There's no need for anything complicated here.

Can't agree more

Is it just me or does the concept apply perfectly into the 3DS?

hmm... no. i thought when you said "3DS" you meant it had something to do with 3D, not just "i think the stylus fits better as a pseudo armcannon than the wiimote"

I meant mostly this part. I don't have the details, if that's what your asking. It's just the idea, 2D/3D blend, might fit on 3DS somehow. I don't see Team Ninja doing this one game, then abandoning what they've created here entirely

Honestly, Other M has to stand for other mother. Why at the end of the trailer whould samus say "Mother......... time to go"? (at first i thought she was going to drop the F bomb afterwards)

Does she meet up with her mom?

Also did the beginning remind anyone else of Avatar? She was in that bed with a mask on as zero suit samus (sort of like jake sully), then she is samus in her armor (like jake's avatar).

does anyone else see the connection?

she's saying "time to die, mother*****" to MOTHER brain. got it? and i think the "suddenly appears on stage" is just like a "we're turning the demo on" thing. i'm more curious about the fetus samus, honestly.

Looks nice. Is it just me? Or does Samus have auto aim? I'm kinda worried about the game being to easy but knowing Team Ninja, I hope not. I also noticed Samus wall jumping back and forth, just like Ryu Hayabusa in ninja gaiden. Overall, I really like the blend of 2D and 3D. The 1st person view was alright.

It doesn't look like you have to be lined up with an enemy at all. You just have to be facing left or right and it looks like it takes care of the rest, whether your target is high or low (seen easily in the video) or in the foreground or background (debatable). And why is Samus a star child? At the very beginning, my first thought was "is this the end of 2001: a space odyssey?" Yeah, and I'm still not digging the emphasis on story. This trailer was good, the gameplay looks solid, but I squirm a little bit every time I see a cut scene.

I want the game more every time I see it. I wonder how targeting works? Do you aim with the D-Pad or if you are pointing in the general direction of an enemy will it automatically shoot them?

Another trailer is now available, it is the same one as before but its extended with a clip or two more of footage. Extended Trailer

And gamespot wont let me edit the first post with this so I'm posting it here. Sorry.

If you want a higher resolution video, go to the Japanese Metroid site(www.metroid.jp)

I take it she got so ticked about her little Metroid Buddy that she was referring to "Mother" Brain by stating, "Mother...... Time To Go" as in "Oh you done, done it now, Awwww Sookie Sookie now!!!" HAAA!!!

To be fair enemies were able to break your lock-on in MP and lock-on allowed you to strafe around enemies. Having auto-aim seems more like a crutch now when you have a perfectly good pointer. People would have been pissed if corruption still had lock-on. Well, it does but not the same as the other two prime games.

It just seems weird that they talk about taking Metroid into another direction, but they decide to hamper it with extreme auto-aim. From what I have seen of the trailer all you have to do is mash the "shoot" button and Samus will just blast the enemy that is closest to her. At least in games like Fusion and Metroid you'd have to be facing opponents or at a good angle to hit your opponents.

I would like there to be some killed involved when it come to shooting down badguys.

It certainly looks amazing!

I just pray that they give us the option of playing the game with the nunchuk attached. Using the d-pad to control Samus in 3D space + the fast pace nature of the game = my thumb will completely fall off. Plus, I don't like the idea of constantly flipping the wiimote to switch between 1st and 3rd person perspective.

Ninja gaiden 2 has auto aim UNLESS you decide to aim manually(sounds familiar?). Ninja gaiden 2 is MUUUUUUCH harder than ANY prime series(unless you play in easy in which case is about as difficult).Ninja gaiden 2 is ALSO harder than most PS3-360 games. And it has auto aim....

If you look at the scene its actually a flashback of the end of Super Metroid when Samus was rescued by the Metroid and Mother Brain which is "Mother" killed the metroid exactly how you see in the cinema and then she says "Mother" time to go!

People don't know the difference between auto aim and aim assist, since 2D gaming is foreign to many people these days, they don't seem to understand the mechanics of it.
To be fair enemies were able to break your lock-on in MP and lock-on allowed you to strafe around enemies. Having auto-aim seems more like a crutch now when you have a perfectly good pointer. People would have been pissed if corruption still had lock-on. Well, it does but not the same as the other two prime games.gamefan67
One, AIM ASSIST, not auto aim. Auto aim would be just pressing the shoot button and hitting everything, regardless of its orientation to you. i.e. you can be facing a wall with an enemy behind you, press the shoot button and you will hit the enemy anyway. Aim assist i when you have to orient the crosshairs in relation to the enemies and the game will snap it on for you in 3D games. In the case of Other M, you orient the character in relation to the enemies and it adjusts your aim. Its actually pretty similar to Super Metroid, but the difference comes in the fact that you move in 2D but the enemies exist in 3D. When it comes to the pointer, well they could have done that but it would basically be the same as this. The game moves much much faster than Prime ever did, so you would just be mashing the shoot button to keep up, not aiming, so the aim assist would pull you onto targets anyway, so why not just cut the middle man.

@ Bruno I never said the game would be easy though:?. I was just pointing out that the "aim assist" is more of a crutch in a game like this, than in games like Metroid Prime or just 3d games in general which have very different fundamentals. All in all it was not a great example to use to try to counter a point that never existed. @ Sepewrath That video is showing heavy "aim assist" to me. Like you have no input on where Samus is shooting. Like I said, from the video all Samus does is shoot at the enemy closest to her, whether they be below her or above her. At least in games like Super Metroid/fusion you at least had some control over where Samus shoots, but I have seen nothing from gameplay videos or previews that prove otherwise. and about the pointer thing. I did not mean having it as some type aiming reticule, but as a control that lets you know if you're aiming up/down/diagonal.

Yes, but like I said before two different aim assist are necessary. In Super Metroid every thing existed in the one plane, so all it had to do was sure that you couldn't shoot around any enemies like in a 3D game. In this game even if aimed up, enemies actually exist up and to the left and down to the right, where Samus moving in 2D could not possibly aim. So all you have to do, all you can do is orient the character. If they wanted to make aiming like Super Metroid then two things would have to happen, the pace would need to be substantially slowed and enemies would have to move into the same plane as Samus.

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="gamefan67"]@ Bruno I never said the game would be easy though:?. I was just pointing out that the "aim assist" is more of a crutch in a game like this, than in games like Metroid Prime or just 3d games in general which have very different fundamentals. All in all it was not a great example to use to try to counter a point that never existed.

i wasn't talking to you directly when i said people think the game will be an easy "press 1 to win" game. but you asked for the point of his post, so i told you.

lol, I wanted to know the point of his post in relation to what I posted, but eh. @ Sepewrath I get what you're trying to say, but I'm pretty sure you can program so Samus can shoot enemies that are on different planes. This is all I'm asking for is if Samus were pointing up she would be able to shoot all enemies above her (including ones existing one different planes), the same goes for if she is facing left, right or down, or diagonal. I just think that this control scheme is way too simplistic and it might actually hurt the game more than improve it. I'm hoping that there are some serious bad-ass enemies in this game.
