So there's been a lot of people saying that they'll definitly be getting New Super Mario Bros. 2 from retail stores, and not interested at all in the downloadable verison from the e-shop. However I'm a bit torn. I look at it like this. This game whether it is good or not, will be the VERY 1st retail game EVER to be released digitally by Nintendo, and to have that version would be kind of cool. Also, you don't really have to worry about losing the game because it will be on your system. But, I do know that having a physical copy of a game is much more rewarding. So I'm kind of torn. How will you purchase your copy? Why?

I bought mine retail. I hate digital copies. I want to have what I purchase.

Retail. But I should also state I'm not adverse to digital - I buy a lot of games digital (mostly on PC, but consoles that aren't the Wii too). My problem with the 3DS and digital games is that the user account is system specific, not account-based. There is no cart to lose, yes, but if you ever lose your system you have to buy another and then argue with Nintendo's customer support (assuming you made the important step of linking your Club Nintendo account so there was a record of some kind) to reinstate your digital purchases. In an era where everyone else does it right, Nintendo's backwards system means I will not buy any digital games unless they are heavily discounted. Plus, I was able to trade in a $20 game and get NSMB2 for free along with its steelbook. If I had gone digital I would be paying full price plus tax for something I could never trade or sell in the future.

Why would I buy a digital copy especially when it's £40 on the 3DS store in the UK. I got my copy of NSMB2 for £27. I'll always choose retail over digital since I like to physically own my games.

I was all on board to get it digital as it seems the best option, also I was expecting the price to be better as in my Country the taxes and customs make the games too pricey (up to the double sometimes). Anyway, it appears the pricing was all wrong and threw by the board my plans as Nintendo kept the exact same price as in retail, which may be exrtemely bad news for their strategy here Anyway, most likely I'll be getting it as retail whenever the price drops :(

I doubt anybody will be getting the digital version here in the UK.

I downloaded it last night, mainly because I wanted to see how smooth Nintendo could make the process. It was up at midnight on the nose and downloaded without a hitch within ten minutes.

I would've gotten it at retail if I had found a really good deal pre-launch, like $10 off, but nothing like that showed up that I could find. I was also worried at first, like others have said here, that I'd be screwed if I ever lost my 3DS. But I've never lost a handheld in my life, and I don't have the kind of lifestyle that would make me prone to losing it, so there's no sense in worrying about that.

It's also the perfect kind of game to always have on my system no matter what.

I am getting it retail after work. I don't buy digital games from DRM-laced services (eShop, WiiWare, PSN, Steam, XBLA, etc). Either I get a physical copy or a DRM-free digital copy (GOG, Indie Bundles).

Maybe if there were some sort of savings in buying digital (as there always should be), I'd go with that. But as it stands, I see no reason to buy it on the eshop.

No way unless they put it on sale. Why spend the same price for digital when you can actually get a physical copy for same price. Play it on other systems, let people borrow it. The digital copy is so limiting and there is no price difference.

Only reason to get the digital version would be so you could get 100 coins for Club Nintendo.

What does DRM have to do with eShop games? You can only play it on a 3DS anyway....

Definitely retail. The 3DS just isn't designed to store many DD games. Hell, even the other system can't hold that many DDs. Until internal memory gets up into the three digits, it's not a viable option for me.

I believe his stance on DRM is largely focused on archival - that is, when the various digital services go away or change we'll possibly lose access to everything we've purchased. I don't necessarily agree with it (as you miss a ton of great Steam/PSN/XBLA exclusive games) but it's still admirable. That and Nintendo's online infrastructure is hilariously bad, making digitally downloaded games a bizarre prospect in the first place.

Yeah, the 3DS' included storage is really small - though NSMB2 is probably a good starting point for a digital experiment as I believe it's only slightly over 300MB. And in its favour, the 3DS can be upgraded with 16 or 32GB SD cards for a fraction of what the Vita equivalents cost (and as I type this I feel depressed thinking about the 32GB card I bought for my Vita).

The easy way around that is just to keep your SD cards with games on them. I upgraded to a 32GB card in preparation for full downloadable games, so that'll last me awhile.

And whenever Nintendo decides to not let us redownload our games from their servers, I'll just make sure I have everything I want on an SD card. I don't really see the problem with that, and I still don't see why DRM is a factor.

My guess is that Nintendo will upgrade the way it organizes online stuff once the WiiU is out. The obvious solution is already prolific enough for them to just copy it from every other company that does it.

£40 on the eShop compared to £30 or less for a physical copy... yeah I'll be getting a physical copy, and if the rest of the games get priced the same way I wont be buying any off the eShop.

Retail. I'd be one selfish brother if I bought the downloadable one and couldn't share with my sister. Also I like having a game collection.

I bought the retail copy, only because I found a trade in deal. Otherwise, I was going to get it digitally. I bought a 32GB SD Card too for digital releases.

Digital.

While I do agree the games being attached to the system, not account, is silly, the same could be said for the Wii, and in particular, its virtual console service. Ultimately, for me, the benefits of digital over physical outweighs the potential risks.

I collect video games (as well as playing them) as a hobby, so I prefer getting the hard copy over the digital.

The thing that scares me about digital is if I want to play a game 20 years from now and let's just say the industry changed and Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft are gone or not in the industry anymore. So what happens if they decide to close down the e- shop ect and you can't redownload past games that you purchased? A few years ago, I would have said giant companies like Nintendo would never just disappear but now I see it is really easy.

The only digital games I buy is on PC and thats because I don't have the option to buy them on disc anymore since the few stores that still sell PC Games have a horribly tiny selection.. so I use steam. Everything else I buy retail.

If digital was about 20% cheaper (and it damn well should be) then I would go digital. No discount = No digital buy.

I was set on buying digital until it sunk in that Nintendo's system for downloadable games is still pretty cruddy. Until they get it so the games are tied to your account and not a device, I am going to buy retail when possible.

If I were to buy it then retail for me. I love digital but Ninty refuses to allow my credit card number to be introduced, and also, like some people have posted, the game isn't tied to an account. If for some reason my 3DS is stolen or breaks it will be a pain to contact Nintendo and tell them to reinstate my digital games on my new 3DS.

Retail all the way. I want to keep using the 2 gig card my 3DS came with.
