Wait until Jasonguy sees this :P

Jaysonguy

What I said still stands true

New Super Mario was an easy platformer that was meant to bring in the older casuals who grew out of playing Nintendo games and find something to come back to

All of my facts come from "standard" Mario games like Galaxy 2 that is selling slower then Galaxy 1

So this is yet another casual game selling quickly, all it does is reinforce the fact that the Wii's core is casual and if you give them acceptable software aimed at them it will sell well

I take it you haven't even played the game then? this game is challenging as you go on and is enjoyed by a variety of gamers of different ages. Why can't you just admit you were wrong so people actually have some respect left for you? no shame in making a bad prediction...

It's a good game, but it's meant to be played with friends. I think that's where it shines. If you dont feel like playing the NES super mario bros games.. go with this one.

@JaysonGuy who said: He doesn't have traction on the Wii on his own anymore, he needs a gimmick to keep going either for the Karts or in this case the easy 2D platformer.

Uhm, maybe I'm not understanding your logic, but didn't Mario start off a 2D platformer? I don't really see how that's a gimmick. Casual or not, it's the top selling single platform video game. And as long as a games fun, I don't care if it's casual or hardcore. It's what it's meant to be, fun.

i opened my inbox and found this e-mail from VGChartz:

"New Super Mario Brothers Wii soared past the 15 million mark this week, becoming the fastest-selling single-platform game to ever reach this milestone. It did so after only 32 weeks on the market, eight weeks faster than the previous record-holder, Wii Sports Resort. This makes it the sixth Wii title to reach 15 million sold, and just the 22nd game of all time to do so.
In just seven months on the market, New Super Mario Bros Wii is currently the sixth-best-selling Mario title of all time.
NSMB Wii is no stranger to breaking sales records. It sold ten million units after just seven weeks on the market, handily beating previous record holder Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' ten weeks."

huh, i guess Mario DOES sell after all. it even sells faster than wii sports resort! /luring

[QUOTE="Jaysonguy"]

Again let's talk facts

Mario Galaxy came out at the worst part of the recession

Mario Galaxy 2 came out after the recession and more importantly there's more then double the number of Wii's now

Also the whole "spring release" doesn't hurt games, just take a look at how Wii Fit did

Jaysonguy

Strange then that most big games come out during the Christmas rush, eh? Also, Wii Fit is a completely different beast -- it's not a game but an exercise program that appeals to many non-gamers (much more so than the so-called casual Mario games).

The recession didn't start until late 2008 and the first Galaxy was released a full year before in 2007. Oh, and the economy is still in the dumps so we're hardly out of the recession.

Again here's the facts

THE RECESSION STARTED IN 2007

Everything came to a halt in holiday 2007 and everyone stopped spending in 2007 because they had no idea how far things were going to go

Mario Galaxy was out in that time with less then one half the consoles that are in the world today and did better then Mario Galaxy 2

Yeah, because facts come from Reuters articles. Didn't they say something about Obama selling NASA?

Reflex as a two year old inferior game sold a million copies on the Wii, I would count that as selling a lot. That game definitely sold over its head.

I don't find Reflex good, lol. The hit detection fails, latency issues and there's even more noob tubers on it than the PS3/360 versions. Mario is boss :3

Anyway, disregard my previous post, it seems Obama really did sell NASA. *FacePalm* to myself.

LOL at calling 2-D Mario casual. Mario games started out in 2-D. Is Sonic the Hedgehog 4 all of a sudden a casual game because it's going back to 2-D? Give me a break. I just hope Nintendo puts out more 2-D Mario games. Cant stand the Galaxy series.

Lol I hope they do too, but I kind of like Galaxy =P.

I still prefer side-scrolling, though.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is not a "mediocre" game as reviews show, but real mediocre games do not sell.

Mario is on his way out

He doesn't have traction on the Wii on his own anymore, he needs a gimmick to keep going either for the Karts or in this case the easy 2D platformer

The Mii's are the ones with traction on the Wii, that's why Nintendo is demoting Mario and having the Mii's take his place.

The core of the Wii is casual and the Mii's are the character that the casuals want.

Lol. First of all, fun is all that matters in a video game. That's what it's for, entertainment. They didn't change much to the formula, but most franchises don't. Just look at Call of Duty or Halo. And I bought NSMBW BECAUSE of nostalgia, I don't care if it has ANY new music. But I'll be quiet, I'm not going to shut down your opinion. Everyone has one, and that's okay.

"Fun is the most important aspect of a video game. But is it the ONLY aspect that matters?"

Generally speaking, you shouldn't ask a question if its actual answer undermines your whole review. :P

What I meant with that is the "fun factor" of a game does not justifies completly the lack of graphics. music, story, lenght, etc. To be considered a "good" game, it needs other factors too. A game may be fun to play, but if it looks horrible, sounds horrible, has no style, no story or sense of unity, its not a good game. And in the specific case of NSMBWii, I think it's sad that a game so rushed up or "incomplete" sells that much, specially when you compare it with other games that are incredible and sell poorly. If Nintendo realize that they can make games with not much effort, and the public responds well either way, then why they should spend money/time is making a game memorable, besides the fact that is fun to play it? Games are not 100% gameplay. Maybe I was wrong in using the word "fun" in my review. I should have use the word gameplay. NSMBWii has good gameplay, but nothing else. And thanks iBlooba for the respect towards my opinion.

If a game looks horrible, sounds horrible, and has no style, story, or sense of unity, then it's not fun to play. The entire point of every single portion of a game is to maximize the extent to which it is fun to play.

If it is fun to play, then whatever complaints one could offer are irrelevant.

wether or not its galaxy 2 , or nsmb or galaxy 1 or super paper mario , there is no reason not to buy them , among other good wiigames that have been passed by ,

its a shame people complain about iwi having no games , but when a good one that aims at them passes such as moh heroes 2 or red steel 2 no one buys them

but theyll take, on games like guitar hero like its nothing

Well I mean I just don't see where NSMBW is incomplete. It is short, that's my only complaint. But I don't think the graphics are horrible, they could do better but they aren't horrible. Mario's never had a big focus on story, and it's the style we know and love from past Mario games. Nintendo does make amazing games, maybe NSMBW isn't the greatest game out there but I think it deserves an 8 at least for what it is, a platformer.

I played NSMBWii a lot with my neighbors, who had the game. When we got together, we played the game, and had fun with it, because we were playing multiplayer with 4 persons. I had a laugh with the game. But the game had bad graphics, bad sound effects, no story, it was short, etc. So, IMO, the gameplay was there, but everything else wasn't. I'm not saying that NSMBWii is a terrible game (I gave it a 7.0 in my review), but it's not a "GOOD" game either. What you say: if I game if fun, complaints are irrelevant? Why you say that? And because I like showing Jason how to use facts.....

The unemployment rate in November 2007, when Galaxy was released, was 4.7% in the US. It was 9.5% in June 2010. So twice the number of people were out of work when Galaxy 2 came out, yet somehow you give that as evidence that more people should've bought it?

Well, I also like learning from Jason how to spin facts, so...

I don't recall the Mario Bro's series ever having a story. So really I don't view "No story" as a Con, simply because everyone who played the previous titles would've already known this before making their purchase.

Not having it in the past is not a excuse for not having it now. Technology has advanced, developers can make more than in the NES era.

Did you register your Wii with Club Nintendo? If you did, then a local judge (at least in the US) can issue a subpeona for Club Nintendo's IP records showing from what internet connection your Wii has been used since it was stolen, helping to track it down and place the thieves behind bars. Nintendo does keep such records and makes them available upon a court order.

Technology has nothing to do with a good story. Final Fantasy 1 had a decent story and the game came out in the late 80's. Truth is I would be weirded out if Mario became like the Chosen One and fufill a prophecy or some weird stuff like that. Mario was never created with the intention of a huge story. You save the princess, platforming through levels until you fight Bowser. That's it dude, if you want a story play an rpg or something. I can't recall a platformer that had like a giant plot/story.

Ummm, the word "GOOD" is located directly underneath your review score. Kinda undermines what you were trying to get across, if that was indeed the idea you were trying to present potential readers.

Some games are better off without a detailed story. I don't want character development, drama, twists, and long cut scenes in my Mario platformer games. They wouldn't make any sense in those games, because it's simply not what they are about. The people who develop the game not having it in mind as an important element of the development process is plenty of an excuse, and if it's not one that is acceptable to you, then you may simply take the option to not buy or play Mario games. Docking points from a Mario platformer for not having a story is like docking points from Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for not having a turn based battle system and detailed premade playable characters with a detailed background story. In other words, it makes absolutely no damn sense.

[QUOTE="EndlessPunisher"] I don't recall the Mario Bro's series ever having a story. So really I don't view "No story" as a Con, simply because everyone who played the previous titles would've already known this before making their purchase.iBlooba

Not having it in the past is not a excuse for not having it now. Technology has advanced, developers can make more than in the NES era.

I can't recall a platformer that had like a giant plot/story.

the uncharted series had a story

[QUOTE="Rod90"]I'm not saying that NSMBWii is a terrible game (I gave it a 7.0 in my review), but it's not a "GOOD" game either. AndromedasWake
Ummm, the word "GOOD" is located directly underneath your review score. Kinda undermines what you were trying to get across, if that was indeed the idea you were trying to present potential readers.

This is off topic, but are you the "real" AndromedasWake? If so, I enjoy your videos. :)

No. :) I just could not, COULD NOT, manage to get a good user name that was not already taken. I had been playing an AdromedasWake vid in the other tab, and when I went back to it (almost ready to resort to something like Xx_SePhIrotH_xX or MasteRChieF2618, lol).... well it just occurred to me to try that, and it worked. So there you go. Also used Thunderf00t's awesome bunny as my avatar, I love that rabbit. Nice to meet another fan of him though, woefully undersubbed Youtuber.

Psh! Mario doesn't have *traction* on the Wii because the idiots who designed his latest game don't understand the concept. ...I don't recall ever seeing someone trying to walk ending up running in place like Fred Flintstone for 10 seconds every single time they try to move, so whoever thought that kind of middle finger to motion physics was a good idea to include in Mario Bros. Wii needs to be beaten. Game is annoying and frustrating rather than fun in oh so many ways because of that crap! REMAKE!
