not that i expect one this gen, (since that would be the first time 2 mario games have been released on a console in 1 gen since the snes was released) I was just thinking. Mario needs to get rid of this hub thing

where you have this little place where everything is chosen from, like the castle was, delfino plaza and now that weird star ship thing

I just want to get an open world feel in mario, keep mario in tact tho, I just think it would be the perfect thing to compliment mario's platforming gameplay, think of haing the mushroom kingdom as your world, and having to go to the castles to find the stars etc.

was just thinking, mario has a very free feeling to his mechanics, doesn't have to be a very large world, but it could be packed with little challenges like "try to climb to the top of this tree", or "remove all of the goombas from this pit", and ring back blue coins to find everywhere. I think this would be the next logical step to mario, could even factor in the gravity stuff too, like a cannon shoots you into the clouds where there is the magic carpet place, but it also has small planets floating up there too.

any other suggestions I'd love to hear them

I wouldn't mind a HUB as long as it is nicely integrated, resulting in the "open world feel" you mention. Also, Miyamoto wants the next Mario on Wii, since it has been long it isn't done.

I like the idea of an open world for a mario game. I think that could add some challenge to the game in figuring out what to do, for better or worse. The only thing is that Mario doesn't run that fast, so to get to the other side of the world might take forever. I think you should be able to ride yoshi or drive a kart around to get where you need to go.

A kart? Sounds like a Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts ripoff.

Yeah, I guess he has those, but karts would be cooler.:P Imagine plowing through a field of goombas in a kart and going off jumps and stuff.

Your picture wasn't working so I got rid of it.

I think the next 3d mario game should be Yoshi's Island Wii. Bringing the Yoshi world to 3d while keeping the coloring book style would be amazing. I almost picture like the Paper Mario pop-up book feel but with the Yoshi Island look. That's what Miyamoto should do next.

If it is Mario, then I would say keep the game in space or at least an alternate dimension. The space theme fits very well with Mario and allows Nintendo to experiment with the gameplay much more than a somewhat normal world. If they made the next Mario 2d though, that would be awesome as well. Kinda like what they did to Wario Land:Shake It. Super Mario World 3...damn, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

They could do it, look at how many they had in Mario Party 8. I was pretty surprised at how many they had.

An open world would cool though. They can still stick with the after soo many stars or quests done you fight Bowser.

I was thinking kinda mario RPG sort of story line, which requires you to travel everywhere to find the stars

but keep it mario platformer, each castle offers a completely different challenge and can be done in any order (or you unlock new ones through star number). I wouldn't want mario to have a "unlocks new upgrades as he goes along" style to it. It's just not mario...

I just think mario's gameplay mechanics would lend themselves perfectly to an open world. I also want yoshi's to be brought back in full

also I alwyas find the mushroom kingdom to be very interesting in the paper mario series. I know they take the hand out of it a bit and everything, but it's great. Imagine being able to run as proper mario from peaches castle to the dry dry ruins, and then out to the ocean and swiming out to delfino plaza.

Yes I know. Paper mariot ttyd had that problem. It took about 20 min to get from 1 world to the next.

I wouldn't have any problem with a hub world, if the game is as good as Super Mario Sunshine was. I just don't care for the hub world in Galaxy at all, and it does feel more worthless than ever because it makes the whole concept of lives obsolete. It's got to be one or the other.

I would like to see them go back to the map, though, and make a bunch of 3D areas to explore as you go along with different themed settings, rather than one sole theme for the entire game. I think it was neat how you had 'giant land' and 'pipe land' and all of these other original locations in the 3rd and snes game. Not saying i don't like the single-theme setup, but it would be nice to see some different areas in a 3D Mario game.
