Well, the closest thing I heard of that was one of the microsft execs saying he would not mind making some sort of deal with Nintendo... but thats as close as it gets.
The only other sort of none competitive friendly interactivity between the two has been a few Microsoft game developers making games for Nintendo handhelds(namely Rare Ware), Microsoft buying Rare from Nintendo and a few complements to one another.
You heard wrong
It was a prior gen and Sony and Nintendo were going to team up.
Nintendo pulled out and Sony got so mad they followed through with a system and loves to stomp on Nintendo because of it. They've had a lot of fun doing it the past two gens but times, they are a changing.

Well, it wasn't really a merger. It was just a deal to where Sony would develop a disc operated gaming system. Nintendo would still be Nintendo and Sony would still be Sony.
As for the possability in the future of it happening.... I'd say it's safe to assume not. Both companies are doing really well of selling their respective platforms, the greatest competition they have have is each other, so theres no reason for a merger.vashkeyacutally there might be one...MONEY, i mean why fight your enemy when u can join them and reek the bennifits? im not sayin i want them to merge (i dont). but money is always a possibility

Do you know just how costly the whole operation would be. So much time and money would be spent in trying to get everyone linked together and to adjust each companies mottos, goals and such that it just might not be worth it. And Nintendo is such a stubborn company, they probably would not accept anything but full control over game development. Not to mention the canabolism of ones own products.
The only way I see any such thing happening is if Nintendo some how gets itself in a worse position than it was with the Gamecube and Microsoft end up buying Nintendo somehow as game developer. It may not be a likely event, but it's the closest it'll ever be to a merger.
... ahhhh
YES, the TC IS RIGHT. There were talks between Nintendo and Microsoft merging. Well actually, it was Bill Gates who told Nintendo that if they want to sell, he would be ready to buy.
If Miyamoto, Aonuma, etc ever called, Gates said they would be put through right to his personal phone.
However, Gates is gone now, and Nintendo never intended to sell (which was a genius business decision).
But yeah, it wasn't necessarily merger talks, more or less Bill Gates offering money to a company that had no intention of selling themselves.
I dont know but a balenced merger where both Nintendo and Microsoft use and combine all of their knowledge and gaming would make for a pretty awesome console.
Think about it...... Xbox 360 cpu power (not that nintendo cant do the same it all comes down to costs) and 360 games like Gears of War and Halo combined with all of nintendos great games and the Wii remotes.
That would be awsome. See yah latr PS3

as if sony ps3 isnt doing bad as it is ... if that would happen things would be worst for sony ,,, not only would that ruin them ,,, thatll take things to the next level... hey analyst say there may only be one console when its said then done,,, if their right you can say good bye to both ms and sony console the way its looking and if you look from the 3rd gen to now there seams to be one less console out,,,, last gen had 4 consoles out by 4 different companies. sega nintendo sony and microsoft gen3 had sega saturn sega 32x and cd sony ps1 and the nintendo 64 thats 5-6 consoles in one gen, the gen before that was 3 tg16 , snes and genesis .... now its back to 3 ms xbox360 nin wii sony ps3
I hate it when new users revive 2 year old threads. People, don't post in this!If Microsoft didn't change anything in Mario and Zelda games, I would probably support this merge.
