https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/10/report-a-new-nintendo-switch-model-will-arrive-in-2019/

nintendo has announced a new model. reports seem to be that the screen is the main focus. they probably want to use a new LCD screen that will save more battery power.

but its also possible that the hardware might get a slight bump. like the 3DS to the "new" 3DS.

who knows if the joycons will be revised as well.

maybe VR?

bigger harddrive?

Will it still scratch your screen when you put it into the dock? Will your joycons randomly not work? If Nintendo put half as much effort into making sure first party hardware worked as they did into making sure third party hardware didn't...

as i mentioned in the SW thread, i think this will be more like a PS4 slim rather than a PS4 pro type deal. i dont think itll get any sort of power bump.

instead i think itll be a move to a new process node and a shrink of the SOC. this will lead to less power draw and less heat. so we may see the removal of the fan entirely for example: passive cooling may be enough even in docked mode.

if nintendo are running with the handheld approach then i would be surprised to see any sort of hardware bump before 2021.

there may also be other things like more storage as standard, maybe even a batter that's easier to replace by the end user (the current setup is a bit silly).

but i would speculate anyway that this is more about refining the existing switch rather than making it more powerful. assuming its true of course.

@theone86: I can't believe how big of a piece of crap the dock is. It put a ton of scratches in my screen so I ended up buying a screen protector.

Nintendo hasn't announced anything. It's all rumor and speculation.

Heres to Nintendo defusing the rumour then announcing a new model 2 days later.

It was pretty obvious from the start that they would release newer versions of the switch. I've been waiting for a beefier one to actually buy it. If this one doesn't have upgraded specs, like most people are speculating, then I'm just going to keep waiting.

A "New" Nintendo Switch this early on? Nah it's probably just a second revision (or third I haven't been keeping up). The LCD screen sounds like a nice idea but since I'm docked 99.9% of the time it won't really matter to me as much. I truly hope for the future Switch owners that it get's a bigger hard drive though.

It's no shock. Knew this was going to happen and yet I caved-in and bought the current model less equipped for my lifestyle. Popular guess is the new model will be designed for portability/ to have better battery life. Because the regular Switch has about 2-3 hours tops.

Depending on the difference I would trade-in instantly and live with the shame.

I'll have to see how much of a difference there is for me to decide. People get the impression that it's going to be better than the current model but Nintendo always surprises us in some way or another.
