Nintendo DS Lite turn off question

Hello,

 I just bought a NDS Lite, and the manual says that to turn it off, you need to slide the button upwards and hold it a few seconds, to prevent accidental turn off.

 But I slide it and it inmediatly turns off, with no need to hold it for seconds, it's inmediate, as when you turn it on.

 Is this normal behaviour? Is the manual mistaken?

Ok, in mine if you slide it very very quickly, like half a second, it doesn't turm off.

 But if you slide it normally, by the time the slider reaches the top, it turns off.

I guess it's normal then :)
