Hm.
Let's get this into the official thread.
8.5
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Oh yeah, a .5 makes such a huge difference doesn't it?Whaaaa, I honestly thought after all the hype it woudl at least get a 9.
Disappointing :(

[QUOTE="outworld222"]Oh yeah, a .5 makes such a huge deal doesn't it? Do you know anything about anything? A game 9.0 or above is a great game. A game in the 8s is okay. Huge difference, no?Whaaaa, I honestly thought after all the hype it woudl at least get a 9.

Score doesn't matter... The content of the review is what I'm wondering...raahsnavj
Agreed
Anyway an 8 is not a mediocre score, its good to great. This is part of why i think most sites review systems are messed up since anything below a 9 is considered not awesome by the majority. 6 would be decent and in the middle if there scoring system wasn't out of whack yet most people consider that a flop now, and 1 through 5 don't even get used all that much if at all. Something really needs to change review-wise since the review system is really broken now, and there's no reason anybody shouldn't pick up this game, because that's a pretty good score all things considered.
But like raahsnav said the content within the review is what matters most, since it will lay out the good and bad aspects that matter most to someone looking into the game.

Score doesn't matter... The content of the review is what I'm wondering...raahsnavjI'll still wait for other reviews. It could end up still being a 9 or 9.5 at best.
if i remember well, the reason i stopped reading nintendo power was because any game was given a shallow review and an 8.5 score, no matter how good or bad the game was. there was the lack of content and the absurd price too, but the reviews pissed me off.BrunoBRSPretty much. I don't care about any official magazine's review.

I don't care about any official magazine's review. well it wasn't "official magazine's" fault, it was nintendo power's. i read NGamer (a british one which also happens to have a brazilian counterpart) and their reviews are, in most cases accurate. well, in text. their scores are a bit weird, but if you follow what they said and not the score they gave, you'll have a pretty damn good review.
Since I had doubts about this game, I cancelled my pre order earlier in the month. I'm waiting for the general consensus when it comes out.

So it's either an A or it's a failure?
[QUOTE="InfinityMugen"]overall consensus seems to be 8.5, which is "great" by gamespot standards. Reviews are nice but I'm waiting for what the average gamer has to say about it. You'd be surprised. Before I graduated one kid freaked out because she got a B and was all like "My Mom's going to kill me!" and stuff.
Sounds about what I suspected. Other M will probably deliver the AAA experience, but fall short because of the obvious problems it might have.
Whaaaa, I honestly thought after all the hype it woudl at least get a 9.

People get too bent out of shape about review scores. Just because someone in the media doesn't like it as much doesn't mean you won't. Plus, people nowadays get bent out of shape if a game isn't a 9 or above. What's wrong with an 8.5??overall consensus seems to be 8.5, which is "great" by gamespot standards. Reviews are nice but I'm waiting for what the average gamer has to say about it. Might give it rent just to be sure. i'm not gonna say you're wrong, but i always wondered why people don't trust the "official reviewers", since the average review score tends to be really close to the average user score. but suit yourself.[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="InfinityMugen"]

Thats lower then I was expecting from nintendo power, I expect less from Gamespot.:| This just went to my rent list instead of buy. Not the game I was hoping it would be.:(

The info is in the details, not the score. well the score is the attempt to resume the quality of the game (better expressed on text) in a simple 2-digit number. if a game is getting 8.5s everywhere, then you don't have to wait for text reviews/opinions to know that it is, in fact, good. but if you're waiting for something different, like a certain part of the gameplay or something on the controls, then you're right, numbers won't help.raahsnavj

8.5 = Fail? :|
I was concerned by it a little bit but an 8.5 is not a bad score most games on the Wii have an 8.5 like Metroid Prime 3 and New Super Mario Bros Wii.
Nintendo power =/= automatic high grades. Anyway if this scores 8.5+ across reviewers then this is a huge success. They completely turned metroid inside out, which is a huge gamble. It's not that easy to think of a new success formula and make it work.

So it's either an A or it's a failure? It's either excellent or par for the course. the difference is that one is near the top and the other is lost in the field. i don't care much for scores, but there is a difference between 85 and 90 is all with 90 putting something into an elite field while 85 "has such great potential". :P
This is why if It only got a 8.5 at nintendo power, I am worried. I know 8.5 is not a bad score but I expected higher from them, I expect much lower here, I also expect alot of mixed reviews. It may be a love it hate it game.Nintendo power =/= automatic high grades. Anyway if this scores 8.5+ across reviewers then this is a huge success. Will do. It's not the score I'm focusing on but what the gamer has to say about the game. Regular gamers arent paid to do reviews and can sometimes give a more honest depiction on the games they play. Not to say professional reviews arent credible but at times I feel they can be out of touch and judge games on standards most wouldnt care about. If I want to watch a movie I may be interested in, I'd rather get the opinion from a friend who watched it rather than read a professional's opinion on the matter. I'm weird like that :P[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"] overall consensus seems to be 8.5, which is "great" by gamespot standards.BrunoBRS

Not true. That's not usually the case on the Wii, especially with niche titles with dedicated followers like this.

Which is something a reviewer will probably care about and I won't. :P
So yeah, the content and personal preferences means more than the score to me. That said, I dunno why everyone's so upset about an 8.5. I mean, I could understand if you'd been hyped for something for a year and half and it got a 7 or so, but 8.5 is a good score.

So, Nintendo Power give it 8.5 and suddenly is the worst game of the year??? right, i wonder what would happend if they give it a 9.5 or more, i know, people would be like, i don't trust them, they always inflate scores :|

wow... i... i actually feel sorry you looked up all those examples yourself (unless metacritic made a new one of those, just for wii games and with that many examples), just a couple would have convinced me. but anyway, excluding the last third, the differences never stray from more than 2 points (aproximately), and it's usually from "well it's good" to "hey it's great", not from "well it's good" to "OH MY GOD IT SUCKS". since i was talking about a more bland overlook at the general quality of the game (which is exactly what scores are for), i think it still applies. unless you're looking for something as "different" as baroque.if i remember well, the reason i stopped reading nintendo power was because any game was given a shallow review and an 8.5 score, no matter how good or bad the game was. there was the lack of content and the absurd price too, but the reviews pissed me off.BrunoBRSThat's because they have a ton of reviews in each issue. They only do big write-ups about games that score very well.
