On topic: so what if Nintendo didn't show any footage of Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe they knew SONY would show some Ratchet and finally admitted that Mario is no match for Ratchet. They should've shown more of Corruption though... Wiifit is just lame and aimed at Americans since they are obese (in general) unlike us Europeans :P I was so hoping to see at least one completely new SSBB character. Or at least a cool teaser but NO! Well Nintendo couldn't have had the greatest e3 press conference two years in a row... This year was totally pwned by SONY, admit it my brethren.

You guys are embarassing yourselves. Hardcore gamers do NOT dismiss ideas before they get a chance to play them. Turning their backs would be canceling Mario Kart, Metriod Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Those are four huge titles.

WiiFit is quite simply just an extension of what they did for Wii sports, getting everyone involved. Like someone said before you weren't born a "hardcore" gamer, and in my opinion, if you're crying like a soiled infant over brilliant innovation, you're not one now. What's the point of generic action titles and FPS time and time again? If that's all you care about, buy a different console and stop posting. You are not hardcore. When that balance board get implemented for snowboarding, skateboarding, boxing, surfing and who knows what else, you'll realize why Nintendo is the leading force this generation.

Just look at the other guys: Army of Two is a Gears of War knockoff. Heavenly Sword is a fake God of War. Killzone 2 is trying to become the next Halo and so is Haze. Uncharted Drake's Fortune is just Tomb Raider with a guy. Ratchet and Clank wouldn't exist if it weren't for Mario 64, the list of unoriginal goes on and on. Nintendo is the only company that actually thinks up new games, and all you can do is complain??

Please, do not call yourselves "hardcore". You're giving the rest of us a bad name.

It's good to see there are at least some people with sense. The equasion is simple, bigger market share means more good stuff comes to that console. You want to see a new MGS (or your favorite other console exclusive?) on Wii? Make it worth the producers while. Graphics capability be dammed if you can make twice as much money on a console with bigger user base. Look at what you are seeing now, longtime Sony exclusives are no longer exclusive any more because producers cannot ignore the huge market share MS has. The exact same thing will happen with Wii the more it sells.

Any real "hardcore" gamer should be excited as hell, the better Nintendo does, the more stuff will come out. Doesn't matter if you feel like playing with the balance board yourself, if it sells consoles you should be happy.

They don't forget hardcore gamers, only this year there is Galaxy, Metroid, Smash Bros, Batallion Wars 2 (online), Fire Emblem and more. Start by play, enjoy, finish all these games and wait for Tokyo Game Show.

I've personally been on a retro kick lately and my Wii hasn't had any use, but I will disagree that the hardcore gamer is being forgotten. I mean look at some of the 1st and 3rd party games slated to hit this year:

- Metroid Prime 3

- Super Mario Galaxy

- Super Smash Bros. Brawl

- Battalion Wars 2

- Manhunt 2 (Rockstar says it will get published, I hope its this year)

- Soul Calibur Legends

- No More Heroes

- NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

It seems I will be having a full plate of games to play on the Wii this year, as will everyone else, hardcore and casual alike.

Nintendo does not care about the hardcore gamers anymore. They are trying to destroy us. Thats why they are introducing all these games meant for Casuals, and not the hardcore crowd. Very sad.

Poser hardcore's Subsist entirely on the Well Known Series and never touch anything new because they are willing to sacrifice Individuality for Familiarity, it's the same reason why fast food is so successful.

How can you not call Zelda "HARDCORE". Just because it was a GC game doesn't mead it wasn't f'n great. Plus the system is still pretty new. Online play is around the corner with Madden, Mario Kart, SSB, etc. Who gives a crap about a DVD player, you can buy one a WalMart for 20 bucks.

Who came up with the definition of "hardcore" anyways; what a joke. A fun game is a fun game. People were addicted to Tetris (not me personally) and I don't see how that's hardcore.

Yeah I was kind of hoping for Nintendo to talk about and show more about games for hardcore but so far there is just so many games like Warioware and Brain Age for thier new casual gamer market. They don't care about the gamers that have been playing thier games since the NES came out anymore. The only interesting announcement was Mario Kart but we all knew that was coming.

So far there's been nothing hardcore for the Wii, well, aside from the Godfather. That was the only real lasting game with the best of the Wii's capability.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition isn't exactly a walk in the park. Where does that fall on your scale?

Three of Nintendo's biggest franchises are being released for the Wii this year.

Pokemon Battle Revolution has online play, and so will Mario Kart, Medal of Honor and possibly Smash Bros.

Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Call of Duty 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Madden, etc. are games that don't usually attract "casual" gamers, but are available for the Wii.

Oh, and you forgot to explain how watching a DVD qualifies someone as "hardcore".

The funny thing is many who claim that Nintendo has forgotten the hardcore gamer, arent even hardcore gamers. They are core games, and yes there is a difference. most people including many in the industry are merely core gamers, people who push the buisness by spending lots of cash, and are slightly more knowledgeable than casuals. For example look at the folks at G4 who are hyping the hell out of Killzone 2, and Assassins Creed. Now I'm not saying that they will be bad games, but come on. The first Killzone was lame, yet with no knowledge of how this game has improved on the first one, they are hyping it like the greatest thing to happen to home consoles since the controller. and Assassins creed is just Prince of Persia mixed with another game or two, but they are hyping them because of the way that they look. That is not something a real hardcore player would do, a real one would be able to hype a game that seems like it will actually offer a great gaming experience. Not just the ones that have the most polygons in the the explosion effects.

Take RE:UC there has been no mention of it, RE is one of the most recognizeable franchises in the gaming world, yet its next entry is totally disregarded. I mean the last RE game was just voted as the second greatest game of all time, yet since it doesnt look like Halo 3 or Killzone 2 whose predecessors were disappointmentsit isnt important. Or take Dragon Blade its just God of War with dragons, it wont be as visually stunning or gory, but it gets no praise. Mario the longest running franchise in gaming, gets pretty much courtesy coverage while Mass Effect, Killzone, Halo 3 is constantly on everyones lips. Many of you here have fallen into this, that is why you believe that Nintendo has forgotten the hardcore gamer. When in reality you vision of what a hardcore gamer is has been warped. If anyone actually reads all this sorry, but I just had to get that rant out there.

ive been around the boards all day and the fury directed at nintendo is immense. i looked over a briefing of the conference and i saw no problems. is everyone annoyed because nintendo focused on wiifit? that seems to be the consensus im getting here. they focused on wii fit, explaining how it works and now everyone seems to think that nintendo are going to stop making big games for existing gamers.

frankly..that takes some very strange logic to get to that conclusion. zelda, MP, mario.....all these make money. pikmin, fzero...more money spinners. nintendo will never ever stop making these games as long as they make money. they may change them a bit (mario galaxy look quite different from 64 or sunshine and is all the better for it....zelda is also due a refit imho) but they wont get rid of them. chances are they will resurrect an old franchise for wii at some stage too. what abotu 3rd parties? seems theres a good few "hardcore" games coming from them too and theres some interesting games too.

look....there arent enough gamers to sustain this industry. its growing at a very rapid pace. this industry needs games that get the masses attention (or at least try too). this industry seriously needs a bigger userbase to sustain itself. this doesent mean no more gamers games...it means there are going to be a bigger diversity in game types. there are going to be more wii sports and wii fitness games. there will be more party games. this is going to happen. MS and Sony are going to follow suit ASAP. but this is not a threat to games as we know them. we will have our adventure games, our RPGs, our sports sims. there will always be a market for them (and they may get even bigger as ppl get more interested in games).

whats the alternative if the market doesent get bigger? dev costs go up, prices go up, market gets smaller due to higher prices...and well use ure imagination...its not pretty. games have to reach new people.

finally, before we go and crucify all simple games.....look at mario bros on the nes. very simple game. d pad and 2 buttons. the game sold 50million units and got many of us interested in games...an interest maintained to this day. who knows what effect these simple games will have on the industry in 20 years time. games may become as common and as widespread as movies or music. not just simple games either but big, epic RPGs and adventure games. hugely detailed sims etc.

Maybe most hardcore gamers don't find the minigames and casual games fun. And "stupid and crappy FPS"? Mass Effect, CoD4 are so much better than NiGHTS it's not even funny. Many does and they're frustrated at the lack of it in Wii.
