Hmm. Probably not. And I'm not saying that because I have something against the Wii. I just know that these PS3 and 360 fanboys are waaaay too hard-headed to even consider buying a Wii. However, I think if they actually gave something like The Conduit, Dead Space: Extraction, or Red Steel 2 a shot, they would realize that the Wii really does have superior FPS controls. I'm not a Halo fan, but I am a Call of Duty fan, and I thought that the Wiimote controls for World at War made the console versions look like garbage. Metroid Prime 3 makes duel analog look like a joke, and I'm guessing the Conduit is going to do the same thing. I think Nintendo is on the right track now, but it'll take awhile before they actually win over the Halo crowd

"Standard" controller is still best for FPS games

The next Nintendo console could give it a run but right now no one is going to switch to a Wii for FPS games

I'm sorry, but LMAO.

The Conduit winning over Halo fans? No. I am excited for the game because of the multiplayer, but it's not touching Halo in any way, shape, or form.

Using Dead Space: Extraction just lends to the assumption that he is blowing smoke up peoples ***'s, no fan of Halo is going to buy a Wii for a clickable cutscene on-rails shooter. If he honestly thinks thats "delivering" to the hardcore, wow.

Not even Metroid gives as good of an all around experience as Halo does...

The ONE game that has the chance of capturing the audience Nintendo wants is "Metroid: Other M." It was a bad@$$ trailer and thats what those "audience members" want. They want a slew of badassery!

I say this because a few of my friends are die hard Xbox fans. They made fun of the Wii for its motion-sensing, but now that project Natal has been announced they're extremely excited about motion-sensing. I showed them the trailer for "Metroid: Other M" and also showed them the Motion+ stuff and now all of them have been praising Nintendo's efforts. Nintendo can do it, but its going to take a lot more games.

As far as aiming goes, the Wiimote is far superior to dual analog. Dual analog is trash as far as I'm concerned.

But the one thing that standard controllers have over the Wiimote is better button placement. I'll grant them that, even though I still think the Wii's controller is much more fun and engaging to use.

I see wut you did thar. Although they are a great start, The Conduit, Dead Space: Extraction (this may win over some Dead Space fans, not neccessarily 360 and PS3 fans though), and Red Steel 2 will not bring 360 and PS3 fans to the Wii. The Grinder and Metroid: Ninja M may catch 360 and PS3 owners attention though, along with whatever Bethesda brings to the Wii because Bethesda is just cool like that (seriously, I have no idea what they are bringing to the Wii, but they'd have to really screw something up for me not to buy it).

im not a big fan of FPS

but i love metroid

and the controles for metroid prime 3 corruption where so freaking awesome i must say i will never tutch a console FPS without pointer.

of all the games that came out on the wii,

mtroid isnt just the best looking (tied with mario galaxy) but also has the best controlles so far.

they are in fact that good, wii motion+ isnt needed at all, its perfectly 1:1

---

i actully remembered i put the sensetivity on advanced or what ever it was called, and i also changed the "b" button to shoot and "a" to jump,

that felt the most like a gun :P

hmm.... i don't know.. i got warning signs when reggie said the world "edgy" at E3. i don't want "edgy" games. i don't want 'hardcore' games. that's the complete opposite of what i want, and i don't think it will create compelling or interesting gameplay. the wii can't handle a halo-type game - it needs some shooters that focus on innovative mechanics and crazy art-styles like killer7.

nintendo need to hire some actual artists. i hate all this hardcore stuff like that gladiator game. it's not interesting - it's pugilistic, samey stuff.

Got MP3, Red steel and COD3, might be getting The Conduit this friday.

I feel that Wiimote>Controller in the aiming aspect, but i just don't like the moving and aiming on Wii without lock-on (Like metroid)

Anybody understand that... cause even I'm having trouble trying to :P

Me too, for consoles at least. I don't know what's everyone else's problem is. Metroid Prime 3, COD;WAW and even Resident Evil 4:Wii edition are clear examples of movement and responsiveness you can have for a better FPS experience.

On a side note, I do not wish the Wii gets flooded with FPS's. There are other consoles for that and I enjoy the Wii's variety.

Knowing him, he means the atari joystick. Shoot with red button and move with analog. Easy pick up and play for everybody.

Oh I'm with you on that one. I'm getting the Conduit because I do like the occasional great online shooting game, but I don't wantthe Wii to be over-run with generic shooters like these other consoles. In that way, I'm with you.

However, Nintendo's games are always super-artistic, and third-party support has been stepping it up in the art department--check out MadWorld, Muramasa, A Boy and His Blob, and Rabbids go Home. I don't think that art is the Wii's problem.

Completely agree with these two. After playing FPS's on Wii is was a major step back playing them on another console. Dual analog is inferior to Wiimote!!! Can't wait to get The Conduit, just don't over flood the wii with FPS's.

also in regards to reggie's wiifit and mario kart comment. no they won't. I consider myself as kind of what he's talking about in that I bought the wii in the first place with shooters in mind thinking it'd be the ultimate shooter console. I hate mario kart (regret buying it). I hate wiifit even more.

The Conduit and Dead Space Extraction will win over the Halo Audience for Nintendo the same way Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and Resident Evil 4, a far superior lineup of M-rated games, won them over last gen. Honestly, I don't think I've heard a worse remark from Mr. Fils-Aime since he joined Nintendo. The crowd he's aiming for need more than just a couple of FPS titles to win them over; your whole marketing strategy has to be geared towards consistently satisfing them and ONLY them. Should they "buy into Wii," they're not going to be looking forward to Mario Kart and Wii Fit, even if they are quality titles. What they will be interested in is more of what convinced them to buy the system in the first place, likely more FPS and violent action games.

It was a nice try, but the remark and Nintendo's strategy this gen simply don't have anything in common, which makes this little more than a comment for people to bring up for whatever reason they choose to. To the company's credit, they are where they are right now because they've looked beyond the audience that focuses almost solely on the Halo, GTA, and MGSes of the world to focus on leading themselves and the industry on a new path. Heck, if anything, it's Sony and Microsoft that should be talking about winning over the "Wii Fit and Mario Kart" crowd. But yeah... it's hard to buy this one, and I'm ususally optimistic about what Nintendo does.

i agree..... aiming with a control stick is a joke.... i mean sure, there's challenge... you're proud and want a challenge and a pointer's too easy for you...... but isn't it more logical to use a remote as a pointer to control the gun that's also pointing?

no wait..... except one thing.... i think mouse and keyboard should be 1st place or a tie maybe... i mean... i dunno, with the left click as shoot and right click as shove... and sometimes mouse scroll to scroll through items/weapons(L4D)... that's easier to use.... i mean, typing and mouse usage comes natural .. as opposed to control stick on the left and aiming a remote on the right... or whatever you use....and the cursor moves naturally... it's like having your remote on a table and move it there left right without lifting it... only diff is that a mouse can also do up and down without lifting...

well, that's just my opinion... but yeah, wii FPS controls are easy to learn and also comes naturally... and feels much more like a gun compared to a mouse.... they're both easy and the movement is natural... only thing is, you can practically map everything on the keyboard...... and you can map more functions on a keyboard than on the buttons of a wii remote...

I only put wiimote higher because I don't PC game outside of the school computers we hacked to play LAN games of Halo 1 during lunch. Good times. but yeah I played Halo 3 at a friends house and it drove me nuts. Resident Evil 5 was even worse because RE4 had such amazing controls. It felt like I was controlling a tank with a rusty cannon

You can nont appeal to the halo crowd by trying to do what the 360/PS3 does better. You have to go places with the wii that the other consoles can't follow. Motion plus is going to be huge and if you can take that same addictive online deathmatch gameplay that Halo and CoD do so well and apply it to hand-to-hand combat instead, you will have the halo crowd's fullest attention.

I don't think they will do. Even if Bungie came out and was like "hey Halo 4 is now wii exclusive" people would be like "this is madness bungie is crazy we don't care that its awesome its on the wii we hate you" a lot of the PS3/360 guys are just anti-wii.

No its not. Anyone willing to look beyond their PS3 or 360 fanboyism can see the control is much better for aiming and all. Its like saying the visuals are better on Wii.

You can nont appeal to the halo crowd by trying to do what the 360/PS3 does better. goblaa

The 360 and PS3 do not do FPS better than the Wii. All the Wii needs is the titles, like The Grinder and Metroid: Other M.

I do think the Wiimote and Nunchuck is the best control scheme for a FPS aside from mouse and keyboard, but that statement is just...

the only thing 360/PS3 do better than wii with shooters is online because nintendo refuses to learn to online. the best FPS's on wii all use their own servers with good reason too. If Reggie really thinks he can do what he claims Nintendo needs to drop friend codes and get some nice seemless online, the one thing Mario Kart did RIGHT

I think it is like this.

KB/M >>>>>>>>>>>>> DS >>>> Controller > Wiimote

gameofthering

You obviously haven't tried an FPS on the Wii.

Please tell me you're joking!!! Lock-on should be banned from games. It's not needed on the Wii and it seriously cheapens the experience. My ears are burning man!!

The Wii has the best FPS controls outside of a mouse and keyboard but still they couldn't win over the "Halo" crowd because of "oh noez teh graphics" Thier not going to play Killzone 2 which has inferior controls even compared to other FPS on the PS3 and then play The Conduit, and of course online play and achievements are big among the crowd. This is the same crowd that asks about DLC 5 months before the game even comes out? So sorry Big N but its not happening, not with the Wii at least.

No its not. Anyone willing to look beyond their PS3 or 360 fanboyism can see the control is much better for aiming and all. Its like saying the visuals are better on Wii.

Aiming

That's it

Everything else is done better with a standard controller

Aiming is everything in a FPS and the aiming is that much better with the Wiimote. The analog stick is the same between the two controllers, the D-pad is better on the Wiimote esp. compared to the 360 controller. There are more buttons on the 360/PS3 controllers.....Everything else is what other than more buttons? There are more cons than pros.

Believe me , we don't want the Halo audience. Microsoft can keep them.

comon jason, the sixasis is not used for moving you know :P just the analog.the wii has one of those for that.Just like the ps3 and 360.And aiming fast and accurately is 90% of the fps ^^"-I never bought a fps game for ps3 after i played em on the wii(COD).Not because they arent great looking but controlling resistance 2 in the old school style and seeing everyone online struggling to get a steady aim online made me sad for me and everyone in the game.

I do think the Wii is great for FPS games but the diehard 360/PS3 fans will never bow down to the Wii  And games like the Conduit and Dead Space only makes them laugh at us :?
