With the Wii U getting HD capability, do you think there should be various HD remakes from Nintendo for it? Like for example Wind Waker HD, F-Zero GX HD, Paper Mario HD, Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, ect. They could enhance these games in more than resolution, i.e. with new features like a online multi-play mode for example, higher quality textures and the like. Also, what do you think of remaking SNES classics like the DKC series, Mario World 1 & 2, Super Metroid, Mario RPG, Kirby series and All-Stars in HD graphics? I think they could look amazing in true HD. A full-blown remake of Mario 64 and Ocarina in a new graphical engine would also be very nice.

What do you think?

I'd like some HD remakes, but not a ton.

I can't see N64 releases getting a full blown remake, at least not for the Wii U.

Nintendo only has so many development teams, and so many people. Unlike Microsoft, Sony or 3rd parties, I think it's a well known fact that Nintendo has smaller teams working on games, and will now need a lot more people to do HD games.

So using their resources to work on remakes, or HD overhauls when they could have those people work on original titles for the Wii U would be a bad idea.

I would like to see some HD upgrades similar to what they did with the God of War collection for example. But I think those teams could better be used for original titles.

Not bothered either way on the others you mentioned but, as I said in another thread, Wind Waker doesn't need a HD remake. I recently played though Wind Waker again, and honestly the game has aged amazingly well, and IMO it looks much better than both Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Now IF they where to offer up a Wind Waker Master Quest I would be very interested, and if it came with an HD upgrade to the graphics I wouldn't complain, but as it is now the game still looks as beautiful as the day it launched and doesn't require a HD remake.

If you saw how sharp it looks via various "PC programs" you wouldn't think that ;)

I would easily buy HD remakes of games like Metroid Prime, Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Xenoblade and The Last Story.

I could see them doing that for F-Zero GX, and adding an oline mode to it. I won't lie, if that were to do that, I would buy the game day one. That game looks great, even today, imo. Though, ofcourse I would prefer a all new entry into the F-Zero series rather than a remake, but what ever.

I really really hope not. The HD remake thing is being beat to death, there aren't going to be any new games anymore, just an HD remake of every other game that ever came out. I wasn't crazy about the NPC Wii games and I have no interest in games being upscaled.

No, I'll be very disappointed if they strip GameCube backwards compatibility and then spoon feed us those games again at full price as remakes. Which i'm certain will happen, and people will buy them.

Honestly the Only Nintendo games that I'd want to see remade in HD are:

Metroid (Especially Super, Return of Samus, Fusion and Prime).

Perfect Dark (The 360 version has no Motion Control option so that doesn't count),

Stunt Race FX would be glorious with updated visuals and better framerates,

Uniracers would be a great multiplayer remake

FZero 64

and

Star Fox 64.

You have a major factor to consider:Nintendo's best exclusive online service, Virtual Console, the whole point is to be able to play tons of the games from yesteryear, HD remakes are work in themselves to the point where your starting from scratch.

Wii U was said to NOT be GameCube compatible, meaning that they will possibly come at the Virtual console, however that was said back then at E3 and that the Wii U is still in major development till its final reveal in this years E3

That's a RARE game not a Nintendo game, therefore there is no chance of it getting a HD remake for the WiiU.

I'm tired of seeing HD "remakes", all they are are old games upscaled to HD and some look bad because of it. They aren't remakes really, all they are are upscales and I hope Nintendo don't go down the same path with the WiiU.

HD remakes haven't prevented new games from releasing on any other platform. Why would the Wiiu be different? In fact, HD remakes have often followed or pushed new games in franchises.

Sly Collection releases, Sly 4 is on the way.
God of War Collection, GoW 3 releases shortly after.
Team Ico Collection, The Last Guardian is slowly on the way. (internal problems have nothing to do with the HD Collection).
Tomb Raider Collection, Tomb Raider releses this year.
Metal Gear HD Collection, a new MG game is released every year.
Devil May Cry Collection, 2 confirmed (one still not shown) new games.
Silent Hill Collection, A new game releases the same week.

You have to keep in mind that these ports are not done by the original developers. They are outsourced just like OoT: 3D was. There's also a hell if lot more than resolution. Better framrate, sound-quality and often a ton of extra content is included.

I read the other posts quickly and didn't see his

But anyway, there is more of a chance of The Last Story getting a HD remake on the WiiU than Perfect Dark because, unlike RARE, Mistwalker and AQ Interactive (co-developers of the game) aren't owned by another company.

I think the Super FX enhanced games should retain their original look if they were to be remaked, just increase the resolution and framerate. Something like this would totaly do imo.

Obviously I was exaggerating, but the take home message is, people keep looking bad for remakes there really will be less reason to make new games. Think about it, if the audience makes it seem like an HD remake is good enough. There is less reason to spend money on new games. And in the case of those examples you have, the new games in many cases actually spurred the HD remake, it was just a cash in. It would be like Zelda Wii U coming out and Nintendo releasing Wind Waker HD.

Take this as another example, there was an article on GI about how the creator of Alone in the Dark wants an HD remake, instead of making a new game in the series. This is what I mean, that same "Its alright attitude, it wont be that bad" you have, is the same one people had about DLC like 4yrs ago. Look at the situation now. When remakes prove to be as much big business as new release, but at a fraction of the cost, what do you think is going to happen?

I agree with this. Don't make the games look realistic or anything, keep the polygonal fx shapes but make them smoother and better textures. Cell shaded would work but they'd retain more nostalgic value if it's still got the polygonal fx effects just enhanced.

Also, that video you posted would be PERFECT for remakes. I'd love a Stunt Race with that kind of Framerate and Online Play

+1 and seeing as the wii u removed the ability to play gamecube games and has no ports for gamecube controllers they are certainly going to cash in on there back catalogue of great gamecube exclusives that actually many people haven't even played.

depends on what they offer. If all they do is port it to wii u with hd then no. If they upgrade the games textures effects and sound then yes.

I can't imagine the only thing they would update is the resolution. If they start making HD ports, a complete audio/visual overhaul is guaranteed.

I think they should only release rare games as HD remakes because it would give more people a chance to play those games. I'm thinking games like Eternal Darkness, Doshin the Giant (Never released in North America), Cubivore (Never released in Europe), Zengeki no Reginleiv (Never released outside of Japan) Nintendo wants more hardcore gamers why not release some of these games in HD since alot of people never played them.

I second a Metroid Fusion, Super, all those remakes. Also, can I get another Mother in HD? I think they could pull it off. Maybe get some Castlevania in there with some Final Fantasy. Could we get VI in HD. Even though IV is my favorite.

If you play Wii games on the WiiU you'll still need to use the Wiimote, also the WiiU wont be BC with the GameCube so you'll either need to hope they get released on the VC or will need to buy a GC/Wii to play them.

I agree, just running it in 1080p and cleaning up a few textures here and there would be good. It already looks fantastic at 1080p in Dolphin. This is the best Zelda game to go with too since OoT just was remade for 3DS and Majora's will probably follow.

It's not like it would do anything besides upscale the games to look better on newer TVs. It doesn't make the graphics look better. Look at Jak and Daxter HD Collection. The graphics are the same, the game just got upscaled to look better on a High Def TV. So in other words: No. I don't want them.

There's some games I'd like to be remade, particularly the ones that I missed out on. As long as they aren't treated as 'big' releases instead of actual new games. Basically, I don't want Nintendo to remove resources on a new project to make HD Remakes.

No disc no buy I hate dlc. With that said I'm all for hd remakes. I want to see Zelda WW TP and SS all on one disc. I want RE4 REmake and 0 all on one disc. I want both Viewtiful Joe games on one disc.

I would say Metroid Prime Trilogy but I already own it. It looks just as good on my LCD TV as PS3 remakes.

Why is that bad? I like HD collections or the occasional downloadable HD remake. They typically only make HD remakes of good games so you get a good to great game, that maintains the original style, but no longer looks like crap on an HDTV. And that's usually at a pretty fair price. They are fairly easy and cheap to make so they hold us over for new games and help pay for them too. And if they sell good enough they can ensure that the franchise will continue. I'm not sure if Nintendo will do any of them though, but I'm sure we'll get 3rd party ones.
