I just copied omgadam's description.

"A button is assigned to kicking and another to slashing with your beam sword. Now a unique feature to this system is that depending on how high your holding the controllers you attack or block at a different level. So if an enemy is guarding high, you hold the controllers low to hit him/her/it lol. Also, after stringing some combos together, you can preform special moves that require movements of the wiimote and nunchuk in conjunction; the special moves range from special sword attacks to wrestling moves, and probably morez."

Motions are only for finishing combos, attacks are assigned to buttons. The angle at which you hold the controller determines which stance you are in.

I will just add that depending on how the wiimote is tilted, the character will have different stances with the beamkatana and can make different combos.
