If you look at the library they built for GBA games before the DS was made, they have a long way to go before technology and game releases can catch up. Once DS can support its own large library on it own, then you may see a change, but I don't think that will happen for several years.Games that use wi-fi,microphones,and the DS itself as part of the game ( shutting it to do something,etc.) I think will become more used in upcoming games. The use of 3D and graphics improvements I think will be also used more heavily. I don't think they will change the DS anytime soon, but I do think we have just scratched the surface on the games that will be developed and released. They may not be banking on the sales of the DS system, but I do think they are banking on making such awsome games that everyone will want and buy a DS system to play the newest interactive games they can produce.

This is my own opinion and not based on any links or rumors.
