No Talk Of Wii Successor Until 45 Million Wii Units Sold In U.S.

Well lets start buying extra Wiis or get people we know, who don't have a Wii, to get a Wii! Cuz Reggie will allow at least 'talk' of the Wii sucessor when the Wii's install base hits 45 million. So far it sits at 30 million...still aways to go. That just tells me that the successor will be available holiday 2012 on par with most guestimates.

Reggie was hired when Iwata started thinking about disruptive strategies, and Reggie was chosen BECAUSE he had more experience on the subject than anyone else at Nintendo's headquarters in Kyoto.

I don't know why people even want new ones. I still haven't played hardly anything in the gaming world because of school. I wouldn't mind waiting another 4 to 5 years for another system, but I know they all will come out before then. We don't need better graphics, we already have good enough controllers, there really is no reason to upgrade. I would rather companies focus on different stories and different ways of making genres fun. We already have all the genres there will ever be. New hardware is not the answer to average games that are out there. Developers are now producing quality work on all 3 systems, I wouldn't want them to have to start all over again when they are now pulling off some great stuff. I would rather have 3 more years that are equal to 2010 in terms of software than for Nintendo to come out with a brand new system and the games be lackluster because developers have to learn what it can do. All Nintendo needs to do is issue an update and get rid of friend codes and promote its peripherals more and they would be fine. Nintendo made motion plus, the balance board, and wii speak but the company does not promote it. The big evolutions in gaming are done. What else do we need from our games?

These statements are such rubbish sometimes. When the sales slow down to the point of major disappointment is when the new console will be discussed. It doesn't have anything to do with "we'll talk when it hits our mark."

That would be like them saying "we're not discussing a new Mario game until its the best selling Mario to date."

Not to mention, I still think the Wii will be supported after a new console is released just like the NES and PS2 prior their upgrades being released.

Its more likely than you think, with the gen extended by move and kinect they could release a console comparable to the hd twins and no one would notice, sell it for $250-$299, get multiplats and more 3rd party support going strong into when MS and Sony launch new products in 2013 and have a huge headstart.

Sales are slowing down, quite a bit. It fits their usual timeline, and what do they really have left on tap for Wii that are system sellers? Pikmin?

That is what they do, after all. Balance Board, Expansion Pack, Rumble Pack (both N64 and DS), Tilt devices like on GBA, N64 DD, among others. Heck the VS may be Dead on Arrival for all we know

By the time the Wii gets to 45 million, if it ever does that, Sony and MS will be well into their next gen cycle. I am pretty sure Nintendo will want to have their next console out before that.

1. It's not as simple as an "HD" upgrade. What most people are proposing is a new console with entirely new specs. Sure, Nintendo could make it backwards compatible, use the same controllers and all that jazz, but Nintendo isn't Sega circa 1994. Nintendo is not going to just add an upgrade, they'll release an entirely new console.

2. They're not going to release a console at the same time they're releasing a new generation Handheld. Despite the fact that one is a handheld and one is a console, they'll compete. How will they compete you ask? They'll compete with customers wallets. And Nintendo doesn't want to compete with themselves.

3. They have to announce with enough time to alert stock holders. Nintendo is a publicly traded company. There is no way they're going to make a huge announcement at e3 and then turnaround and say, oh yeah it's ready. This also applies to giving devs development kits, which none have been issued yet. So the timing is completely off.

4. Nintendo has lost 25% of their Wii sales, which has already been discussed thoroughly by Michael Pacher (financial analyst) that there was no way that Nintendo could possibly sustain those kind of levels. And in fact, he stated they're selling normallyright now. You can watch Pach Attack on Gametrailers.

So there, it's impossible for a 2011 release. Unless Nintendo turns around in January and says, here comes Wii 2. Which they won't, because they're too busy prepping for the 3DS launch.

Well, considering he spear headed the development of the Wii, and was previously involved in most of the other consoles, Miyamoto is definitely a safe bet to trust what he says.
