There are about 10-12 Wii U games that I'm interested in picking up between now and the end of 2013--Game & Wario, Mutant Mudds Deluxe, Pikmin 3, Splinter Cell, The Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends, Sonic Lost World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario 3D World, Shovel Knight, (maybe) Wind Waker, and (maybe) Arkham Origins.  I will concede that a lot of the more interesting games like X, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. are scheduled for 2014.  By contrast, I am planning to pick up a PS4 this November with 1 game, Killzone, maybe Knack and/or Watch Dogs too.  So, when it comes to games, the Wii U is definitely winning in my book.

Nintendo promised 3D Mario, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros.  We got exactly that and more.  People who are complaining because there wasn't a Star Fox or a Metroid game need to base their expectations on what Nintendo actually says, not rumors and speculation they hear on the internet.

Nintendo doesn't have anything of value to bring to the table in 2013

It has no specific content that will attract an audience this year

The bigger problem is that it's going to fail to have anything worthwhile for a second straight holiday season.

Donkey Kong was a nice surprise but to see title after title announced for 2014 and beyond it makes the present day look very bleak

Madmangamer364

Oh shut up.

Why should he? Everything he said was fairly valid (and I'd even argue against the "Donkey Kong was a nice surprise" part), and it's something others have agreed upon.

Honestly, though, I think it's all a matter of where you stand with the Wii U as a whole. For most of those who already have the system or were certain to pick it up, Nintendo's showing probably was a good one. If so, awesome! Nevertheless, the point Jaysonguy brings up makes sense. How exactly does the struggling Wii U plan to find an audience this year? It's from primarily that perspective where Nintendo's E3 showing comes off as very flat.

The lineup Nintendo's going with down the stretch is wishy-washy at best when it comes to appealing to non-Nintendo fanatics. The game most likely to draw attention would be Super Mario 3D World, but by being a 3D Mario with a December (meaning AFTER Black Friday) release on a system already having seen a Mario game of a typically more attractive mold a year ago, it doesn't have the best of odds. Zelda WWHD will pretty much come and go for all except those actually looking forward to it, as it's no system-seller by any means. What the leaves is Donkey Kong Country trying to shoulder the burden of being Nintendo's "Big" holiday game, and that's borderline laughable. Between being sandwhiched between older platforms that are already selling better and new ones about to make a huge splash on the market, the Wii U's future doesn't exactly look bright still. (That said, Wii Fit U could be something of a wild card in all of this, but doubtful.)

This was a moment where Nintendo needed a slugger to hit a homerun, yet settled for a double. It's still nice, but whether or not it's actually enough remains to be seen. That fact alone, despite Nintendo showcasing its biggest brands on the console front, is what should be most alarming. The end of the year is going to be a very telling one for Nintendo and the Wii U, and I believe that it will also be a humbling one for a company that believes that its brands can single-handedly save what has been a lackluster console thus far.

DKCR sold a lot of Wii's in 2010, so you never know. Game hit 6 million units too. It ain't Mario level of moving units but it should help a good amount.

You're underestimating Wind Waker. Ocarina 3D sold a good amount of 3DS systems so Wind Waker could push Wii U sales up in Oct by 50k or more. Especially since a lot of people missed Wind Waker back in 2003 due to not a lot of ppl having a Cube.

I have no doubt that the Wii U will sell at least 700k+ in November and December each, then maintain a healthy 100k per month in America through early 2014 due to tail end sales of Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U. Hopefully Nintendo can follow this up with Yarn Yoshi, Bayo 2, Mario Kart in Q1/Q2.

Sadly we had our chance to get them to make Star Fox and we let SF 3D sell 700k on 3DS. Not bad, but still at Star Fox Command levels.

Jaysonguy is nothing but negativity and his pessimistic attitude to everything is actually starting to rub me off. I'm all for criticism against Nintendo, but this guy just hovers around the Wii forum waiting for every single opportunity to "bash" Nintendo. I don't remember the last time (if ever) he ever had anything positive to say. He doesn't give constructive criticism and he often times insult people for enjoying what Nintendo offers. Needless to say, I am avoiding his topics from now on.

JaysonGuy comes to GameSpot to intentionally troll I believe. I've seen his game site and social profiles and he appears intelligent enough to not actually believe the crazy things he say here. Don't invest too much into him.

I'm way more inclined to believe that the Wii, the holiday season, and the nostalgic factor of the branding was more responsible for DKCR's success than the other way around. The game sold well on a console with 100 million owners. The Wii U isn't close to that, and that's what will be reflected. Nintendo should know very well Donkey Kong doesn't hold the kind the impact necessary to be a system-selling brand, and the vast majority of games starring DK doesn't suggest the notion you're speaking of to be the norm. The upcoming game can only hope to boost software numbers, nothing more. And given that it isn't a Mario-level kind of game, I'm doubtful it'll boost software sales by that much.

Wind Waker's in a very similar boat. OoT 3D sold fairly well, but given the struggling state the 3DS was in during and well after its release, I would hardly call it impactful on hardware sales. I think you're grossly overestimating what a Zelda remake is going to accomplish here. There are far fewer Wii Us in people's homes than GCNs at the time of the original game's release, and between the GCN and the Wii, there have been ample chances to experience the game. This could have easily been a Virtual Console-like digital release, but Nintendo knows it needs some sort of retail presence. Not to mention that 50K units sold in October wouldn't be worth bragging about to begin with...

The Wii U's best hope during the holiday season is simply just that, the holiday season. Nintendo's just hoping that people will turn to the Wii U in the final quarter of the year for as their primary gaming system, for some unknown reason. I'm not sure where exactly you're getting your numbers from, though, since the Wii U hasn't proven to have that kind of momentum as the new kid on the block to this point. To suggest those numbers with two new system coming out and a lineup of games on other consoles to draw attention is a pretty bold shot in the dark right now. If there's a price drop and/or if Wii Fit U can miraculously manage to recreate some of the Wii's mass-market appeal, you may be onto something. Nevertheless, there's hardly any evidence to believe that Nintendo is going to close the year off strongly at all.

But hey, we'll see. :P

Maybe you're right, but perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to make remarks that offer no constructive elements of your own as a response. Again, what Jaysonguy said makes sense, regardless of how negative or pessimistic you may feel it was. If it gets to you that much, just gloss over the thread entirely. I myself has never agreed with everything that Jaysonguy has said over the years in regards to Nintendo or how he addresses other members at times, but I do think more often than not, his points have merit. It also helps that Jaysonguy isn't even close to being the most pessimistic person in regards to Nintendo that I've come across on forums. He has shown to be insightful, helpful, and even positive about certain Wii/Wii U games. Nevertheless, if it's a thread that looks like it's asking for trouble, I not going to give it attention. :P

I'm not telling anyone what to do, but I think the situation is made worse when people go out of their way to attack the TC in threads like this without even trying to offer a respectful rebuttal to the topic being discussed. I know it's not always easy to see remarks that are less than positive, but just saying "oh shut up" really brings nothing to the table at all in terms of changing the tone.

[QUOTE="daveg1"]damn sad day for wii u owners..me included cos ive got one lolbonesawisready5

How is that a "sad day"? They just threw out pretty much every big third party game in late 2013 (except GTA V but whacha gonna do y'know?) plus a slew of first party stuff for this year and next.

FIFA, Battlefield 4, Madden and NBA2K are all MASSIVE selling 3rd party games. Destiny will probably also be a major success and it will have 360/PS3 versions. Will Dark Souls II or The Witcher 3 be on Wii U?

I admit I felt like Nintendo did exactly what we all expected. But really, so didn't everyone else. Another assasins, cod, kill zone, bf, etc.... New consoles wirh super hd graphics, that my pc akready does. Just because Mario had been around forever, then it needs to change. But what has really changed in AC games that makes me want a ps4? I can play my games on my controller and my tv, and bring a married gamer, I get to play more and my wife complains less.

Still missing out on Thief, MGSV, The Witcher 3, Dark Souls 2, Dragon Age 3 (if they don't screw it up), Evil Within, Killer is Dead, Earth Defense Force 2025 & no sports games.. if you remove all the usual first person shooters. :p

I would've LOVED to see Titan Fall and The Division for WiiU with Wiimote controls option but none of those great looking titles are coming.

I would've LOVED to see Destiny on WiiU with Wiimote control options but again, nothing there, at least as far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these as I'd love to be wrong about this).

I would've LOVED to see Defiance on WiiU with wiimote option but another missed opportunity.

I wanted to see Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei but there was no word of that mentioned at E3.

Other than that, I guess it was decent.

I mean, hey, we are getting a Wind Waker remake... I guess I'll play that since I didn't play the original.

We are getting a Smash Bros (Which I think is being rushed) which hopefully has an at least decently lag free online with Party rooms.

We are getting Mario Kart 8 (Which hopefully Nintendo doesn't think is enough to merit the absence of FZero just because MKart8 now has AntiGravity).

X looks great.  Hopefully it's a FULL open World MMo'ish title, not specs and spots of stages like Monster Hunter is.

Bayonetta 2 looks good.  I didn't play the original so hopefully I won't be lost by playing this one.  Also short hair looks LIGHTYEARS better on her even though her outfit is her hair I believe.

Animal Crossing New Leaf may be the first one I may try.

Pikmin 3 looks good.  I'll get that.

I hope a new Baten Kaitos, Sega/Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online and a new Secret Of Mana from Square Enix comes out on WiiU eventually.  Not holding my breath for either of those though.

I guess the issue I have, which I should be over by now, is adjusting to the lack of 3rd party support.  Hopefully eventually Nintendo does something and gets 3rd party to come to WiiU strongly.  At this point, I honestly believe they should do an expansion pack type thing like they did with the 64.

uhhh nintendo has project X thats more than enough reason to buy Wii U
