Truer words have never been spoken.

Exactly. If it were developed by Nintendo, Jaysonguy would say: "Nintendo has done it again! Another masterpiece! I love you Nintendo!" But since Capcom developed it we hear: "The game is broken! It's shovelware crap!"

The reality of the situation is that this game is the 5th highest rated Wii game on Game Rankings.

If Nintendo made it there wouldn't be this problem.

There is no problem with Okami.

I figure its mostly because its not the same people who made the original. Ready at Dawn ported it over to the Wii and they basically had to start from scratch because they couldnt figure out the coding that Clover used (this i read somewhere, i dont exactly remember where).

I dont find it to be a huge issue. However i havent played Okami in a while because of other games and school lol.

Since I and several other people on this board have little to no problems with the controls the only conclusion that can be made is that you're not very good at this game. This is not the developer's fault.

I understand that, because I played the better version first I'm having trouble with this inferior version, I understand it all.

It shouldn't be the case with the Wii version, I should have an easier time with the Wii version.

Jaysonguy, judging by the parts of the game you've described, you are obviously extremely early in the game. What are you, about 2 or 3 hours in? The game in 30 hours long.

Like many of us have already said, once you get used to the controls, they become second nature. Play the game a bit more before you say its broken (although you've done this many times before). It's one of the best adventure games on the system and IMO, outdid Zelda.

Yeah I'm 2 and a half hours in

I'm practicing the slash on the trees and the bush things trying to get it down.

that sounds similar to some probs i had with the PS2 version when i played it briefly. eg the bit where ure going down the river on the log and u need to draw lines from the riverbank to the log to stop it from going over a waterfall. it took me AGES to get that right on the PS2.

sometimes it also wouldnt pick up on something because i was too far away from it.

im not sure if its better or worse on wii (its not out in europe yet on wii) but the game was certainly not perfect on the PS2 either in that regard. still a brilliant game from what ive played of it though.

osan0
lol Forgot about that part. It killed me too on the PS2. Everything seemed drawn right, but it would never recognize it. It was especially devestating when needing the final vine to connect and multiple tries at it would just not register. Very easy challenges become difficultly frustrating. Luckily, there were very few of these occurrances and the epicness of the game made it forgivable.

Apparently the game is broken because you are no good at the controls?

EDIT: I thought freaking was a verb. Like saying: I'm freaking out man. The topic title doesnt make that much sense. I dont say I sleep broken, I hurt broken or I pee broken due to problems with my liver.

Freaking is often subsituted for a four-letter F word + ing that isn't allowed on GameSpot. So, it's not being used as a verb in the topic title.

I always laugh when I see threads like this. Okami controls fine. The controls aren't broken, the person controlling the game is. I would like to remind you that only a couple reviewers out of several dozen had little problem with the controls. IT ISN'T A PROBLEM WITH THE GAME.

Q: How broken is Okami?

A: So broken this disk here...

feels better about itself now

It's not a bad game but the controls just destroy everything.

The brush and the Wiimote sounds like a great idea until you use it. The strokes have to be in the exact spot to make any of the slashes work and just to be fun it doesn't recognize half of them.

There's one part when you have to help this guy Susan by slashing things. Only problem is that the game doesn't pick up on all the slashes so he has to do the ENTIRE thing over again, not bad until you find out you can't skip the scene that comes before it. So you're stuck watching the scene every single time before you actually get a chance to slash again.

It's not like it doesn't pick up on the slashes and you don't see it on the screen either. You SEE the slashes go right across what you're supposed to be slashing but nothing happens.

Capcom really screwed over Wii owners on this one. Instead of improving on a last gen game they had their 6th tier team port over a broken game.

If you play the game plan on redoing a lot of the actions even though you did them right the first,. second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth.......times

Jaysonguy

You'd be embarrassed if you could see how fast I finesse through everything in Okami. Utterly embarrassed.

Great job highlighting one bad aspect about the game, and not talking about any of the good.

You're like a politician. You only tell one side of the story.

Rocky32189

Yeah I mean they're only the controls

Who cares that a car's wheels fall off when you drive it, look how roomy that glove compartment is!

No, that's a faulty analogy. In your original post, you highlighted something that happens once or twice in a 30 hour game. Why not talk about what happens in the other 29.9 hours instead? Seems like a better way to showcase what this game is all about to me.

yeah, terrible analogy.

try saying the glove compartment is small but the wheels rock, that would've been a better analogy

It's obviously not the game that's broken since I have no problems drawing. Yes it can take me a couple tries to get it right, but doing something so easy as a slash is no problem. You don't have to draw a perfectly straight line, I just slash a quick line and it works fine. Other brush techniques like Bloom I recommend drawing the circle around the perimeter of the tree, you won't have any problems doing it like that.

Ok, see how those two statements canceled themselves out?

It's so good that you have to reenter commands until it responds?

Yeah, I agree with This Guy. Okami Wii is Broken as hell. Sure, its quicker to draw with the Wii mote, but its also ALOT less acurate. Sometimes it wants you to slash fast, but you can't get it straight. Its tough. I remember that one scene he was talking about too. That took me forever to get right. And, its not just controls, Gameplay is boring too. Whats so much fun about drawing circles? And Combat, OH GOD! I can never attack Physical, It will only pick up a few times, then I will foolishly shake the Wii mote around, just trying to attack. THen I give up and attack with Slashes. FAIL! Most of the time, the Ink blots because the game recognizes that I am too close, which is not true, so I pull the wii mote back (Inconvieniet) and the ink is too narrow. For slashes, you have to slash fast and, once again, I cannot. So the result is the enemy splashing in Ink.

So Lets see: Bad Controls, Poor Combat..... You tell me? What do you think of this game?

You're overexaggerating, in my opinion. Maybe you need to adjust the sensor bar or something, cause I haven't had any problems at all. Well, it took me a couple of minutes until I got used to the brush thingy, but now I have zero problems.
Slicing, making bombs and draw circles takes me one try only.
I've played it for about 12 hours now, and so far I seriously like it.

One thing, though: To dodge to the desired way with the nunchuck could be a bit tricky, but I hardly find any use of that anyway.

Okami is broken? I think you're broken!

There is a learning curve to using the Celestial Brush. Give it a little time and you'll find that pulling off moves is simple and easy.

Well, you obviously haven't been playing the game for very long because your still at the part where you have to cut the rock. Im sure everyone has trouble with it at the beginning it just has a slight learning curve like most hard core games. Try playing a little more and using the Z button to do slashes and im sure you will be fine.

It's easy to bend words isn't it? I said that I don't have any problems in general, I sometimes have to try again, but in general I don't have any problems with these so-called "broken" controls.

I haven't had much problems with the controls. The slashes usually work the first time, but you just have to do it fast, and around the middle of the object. The game itself however... is decent at best. Imo the battles are so boring. They're all the same, and they're all so easy. Maybe I was expecting too much because so many people were saying "OMG!! Okami>>>>>>>>>>TP!!!". TP is better then Okami is everyway, IMO. Although, I haven't finished it yet, maybe it gets better, but I really don't feel like pushing myself to play a game I don't really like, hoping it gets better.
