okay, well if you go to smashbros.com you'll see that there is a level editer (AWESOME!) and if you have an internet connection, you will recieve a random level that someone created! which is even more awesome... what sucks though is that the level gets erased after 24 hours : (, because, the wiidoesn't have a harddrive

There has been so many things that has held the wii back because of the lack of a harddrive,

for example, a demo channel, we would LOVE one but sadly we can't... More room for wiiware games and VCgames, another thing may be the reason why we have friendcodes, on the 360 gamertags actually do take up space,

please vote in my poll

I think that's the biggest mistake Nintendo made with the Wii. Having no harddrive doesn't really affect some of the smaller gamers, but bigger gamers who wanna download demos and stuff should be able to have a harddrive.

It wouldn't be so big of a deal if they'd just let the SD cards be used for more than data archiving and save transfers. A 1 or 2GB card costs practically nothing these days...

I agree with the harddrive idea. I like to download stuff from VC, but I find myself lacking in space for the games I want to get because the Wii has no HD. If there's no HDD in the works then they need to come up with something better for me to save my VC games and demos in.

I thought the Wii had a hard drive...

What are our game saves and virtual console downloads being saved on then...?

Wii hassome kind of256 flash drive to save VC games and replace memory cards.

In theory, if SD cards keep getting more space and lower prices, Nintendo could look like geniuses again. Think about it. It would be very appealing if I can get hard drive capacity for the same,or even lower, price with that convenient SD card size. Maybe I'm the only person that thinks that way.

I wonder whether Nintendo's realized yet what a mistake it was to leave a hard drive out of the Wii, or whether they're looking forward to all the money they'll make off of Wii owners who buy the hard drive add-on.

Probably the second option.

Wii doesn't need a large hard drive... The only reason you would need over 5 gigs is if you are saving games...aka pirating. Then again you may be a photographer, or enjoy watching movies on your wii by downloading them and converting them into wii-form. In any case Nintendo will probably put this one off for awhile.
I don't blame them, and I don't want to have to buy a hard drive. I got 2 2gig sd cards and they work just fine

Wii will be saving games. Just of the Wiiware kind. Not having enough space will limit the possibilities with this services. Another thing is game updates and content. Wii were promised such things though WC24, yet in practice developers have been hesitant to bring such things to the Wii due to its limited storage.

I mean, okay, SD cards will probably work (if the developers ever decide to support them). However they're hardy cost effective in comparison.

And then if they released one you'd probably get mad because it wasn't free. "WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING NEEDED" etc. etc. Honestly, nerds are never happy. Can't enjoy life like that.

Well, for now my 2GB SD card is holding up just fine however I know that sooner or later I will want to do something beyond its storage capacity. I could go for a hard drive if there was support for it however I doubt that it will happen.

I think it would be better to have a firmware that can allow any available external HDD to be compatible. I could use my 160 GB HDD on it.

The firmware update to accept USB external would be the best and easiest thing. My 120GB"little monster" would love some gaming usage.

it would just be simpler if they let us play games off of the sd cards, then we wouldn't need a hd, and we wcould buy cheap sd cards whenever we needed them.

Individual SD cards may usually be cheaper than HDDs, but they also hold far far less. In terms of cost/MB, hard drives have a substantially better value.

the solution is even easier than releasing a HDD. a firmware update that allows ppl to hook up there own drives and run apps from SD cards, usb memory sticks and external HDDs would be the easiest solution. i have a few mem sticks n stuff around...i wouldnt mind plonking them in the back of my wii for extra storage.

I think a very compact 5 or 10 gig harddrive that attaches to one of the USB-ports at the back would hit just the right spot. Something that looks discrete and blends in with the Wii's design seamlessly. 10 gigs would guarantee enough storage for the entire lifecycle of Wii.

the very least that they could do for now is to make it so you can download games and play games directly off the sd cards.

well yeah i really think that nintendo needs a harddrive but you can have it installed and then the wii looks bigger or have a 2 way USB cord for the hard drive and the keyboard or etc. you want to hook up, but I want to hook my hard drive up.

I don't see why nintendo doesn't just release one right now,

more money for them, more possibilities for them, and makes their customers extremley happy with ssbb demos

i don't know why, but the usage of sd cards feels really lame... it just feels so last gen, just like memory cards... i just want to have a harddrive and not worry about having to many wiiware and vc games

Nintendo made the option to go without the hard-drive for various reasons, mainly because it was cost effective, but also because it was somewhat pointless with the software on the wii itself. Hard-drives add to the costs of systems. That's partly why Wiis cost the price that they do. Would a hard-drive be nice? sure. Does the target audience that Nintendo is aiming for really need it? Not really. If they do ever release an external hard-drive I know that I would personally invest in it, but to be completely honest, I don't know as I would use it to its fullest potential unless Nintendo started supporting other forms of software, such as a media player during your games (a la 360) or just saving a few demos to your system.

Agreed. The excuse, "In a way, we liken it to putting music on your iPod; you listen to it for a while, and then you get tired of it, and you pull it off, and you put some new stuff on." is totally wrong imo.

I have an 80 gig hardrive and keep all of my music on it. It's convient and effecient. Who wants to have to redownload VC games again and again? What if you're at your friends house and you want to play a VC game and that game has been deleted off memory? Nintendo should think again on this idea lol.

As for the tc's poll, I choose none of those bacause the prices are too high.

Even SD cards aren't really convenient at the moment. VC Games can't run off them, and hardly any games support them in any capacity.
