On the train, jerk tries to steal my DS and cause the latch crack!!!

I have had my DS for a little over a year now (void warranty). I was extra careful not to get the latch crack that I heard about all over the internet. Then one day, I was on the Chicago Transit System and these black dudes were making a fuss through the car I was in. I gripped my DS a little more than normal, JUST INCASE.... and BOOM the loudest dude grabs my DS and we entered a battle to see who could keep the DS. I was holding it in a way that there was no way to get it out of my hand. He let go, shrugged it off and laughed out at the next exit. My heart was pounding and I looked around and everyone was giving me a "good job" look.

Then a few days later, I noticed the crack in the latch. I quickly calculated that I just missed the warrenty window and made a big noise.

I called Nintendo and this is when I got the info on latch cracks and non functioning R button.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

if your DS is inside a warranty window, abuse it as much as possible. Then you can get these things fixed for free. Cause if the latch is gonna crack, its gonna crack someday.

be happy you're safe and sound. since you're no longer under warranty nintendo will charge you a fee for the repair.. which i believe is around $50. good luck.

I'm glad to hear that you are ok. That must have been horrifying! But I would count my blessings because I read a similar story recently where the person ended up with a black eye and no DS :(

China town can't be that bad. China town here in the phil is one of the best places to get food and all sorts of stuff.

Anyways on topic now, your fortunate to have both life and DS. Here in the Phil cellphone snatchers not only steal but kill as well, and that is why they are making a bill to put in prison for life anyone who attempts to steal and kill.

Its a pitty it has a crack now though.

i know how you feel. ive been robbed before. me and 5 friends were just hanging out in the park and like 20 guys came and beat us up for no reason. they didnt want money or anything. *were white and they were all black* not to suggest anything.. but...

i was also robbed for my wallet and cd player, and then the latest time this guy tried to rob me and i really literally didnt have anything, so i told him that and told him to go **** himself, and threw the 30 cents i had on the ground. this is in scarborough, toronto

Just shows how valuable the ds is! well luckily where i live there are so few DS's that you'd easily find yours if you looked for all the people that own a DS.

A similar thing happened to me with my mobile phone on a london bus. I was on my own on the upper deck and two hoodies walked up the steps, pulled their caps over their faces and their hoods over their head and tried to pull my phone out of my hand. It fell on the floor, I pushed him really hard, grabbed my phone and ran downstairs.

In anycase your incident shows how desirable an item the DS has become and how much street cred it has. It's funny in a strange way. I bet no one at Nintendo (or anywhere else) would ever think that would happen for a Nintendo product.

well done for being able to hang on to it. don't worry about the hinge in the crack. it doesn't affect gameplay at all and it's a battle scar so you should wear it with pride :P

peterissac, from watching the news over the last 6 or 7 years I'd say Europe has an bigger issue with subway bombers. I'd much rather take my chances with a guy trying to steal my DS and laughing at me than a terrorist attempting to bomb the subway i'm in. See we can both point out flaws for eachothers countries. Instead why not focus on understanding whether the problem was actually the latch or the hinge, because I've never heard of anyone having the latch crack. :)

well, if it was me, ill stab him anyways..two reasons i would od it is beacuse one, hell be in pain, and two, im pretty sure if someone screams in pain soeone is going to notice it..so yeah, ill still gowith the stabing..if you know what your doing, you can cause some major pain
