On the train, jerk tries to steal my DS and cause the latch crack!!!

yes, i agree i was lucky but the guy was kinda light hearted person... kinda like a smart ass ... not some creepy theif...

so, that atmosphere was asking for a little battle to see who could hold on... if he was a huge thug, i would have or might have let it go... i visited japan and man, over there, every other person is either texting on their cell, playing the ds, psp and or watching tv on their tv enabled cellphones..

the game i was playing btw when attacked was mariovsdk2 my favorite game for the ds ever.. cause that level editor rocks!!!

Wow. You held on and he LAUGHED?! You need to be really, really happy. My friend was in a pretty similar situation in a terribly shady city *cough*Oakland*cough*... He, same as you, decided he wasn't going to give it up and they guy pulled a knife on him.

Needless to say, he just let go. Better to pay $130 for a new DS than the hospital bills for knife wounds.

ive beaten the hell out of a few "ghetto" guys for trying **** like this a few times they allways try to fight in packs cause they suck at fighting 1 on 1 lets just say no gdog has ever bested me in combat and never will and no one will ever steal anything from me i commend you for being cool and not leting the the dickless ashole win good job! this is also the reason why i drive through bad places windows opwn blairing rock n roll to show my dominance people are too afraid of talk if they have a weapon i suggest you also use a weapon it works trust me.draftrough

I have had my DS for a little over a year now (void warranty). I was extra careful not to get the latch crack that I heard about all over the internet. Then one day, I was on the Chicago Transit System and these black dudes were making a fuss through the car I was in. I gripped my DS a little more than normal, JUST INCASE.... and BOOM the loudest dude grabs my DS and we entered a battle to see who could keep the DS. I was holding it in a way that there was no way to get it out of my hand. He let go, shrugged it off and laughed out at the next exit. My heart was pounding and I looked around and everyone was giving me a "good job" look.

Then a few days later, I noticed the crack in the latch. I quickly calculated that I just missed the warrenty window and made a big noise.

I called Nintendo and this is when I got the info on latch cracks and non functioning R button.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

if your DS is inside a warranty window, abuse it as much as possible. Then you can get these things fixed for free. Cause if the latch is gonna crack, its gonna crack someday.

My Ds got the crack without the help of train violence. The white ones tend to crack easily for some reason. Just try not to agitate the cracked area or the hinge will come completely off.

Bested you in combat? Yeah, I believe this guy. Me thinks you should go back to World of Warcraft. To the OP I'm sorry to hear you were almost the victim of some random violence.

What I find stupid is that the DS is highly affordable, if they at least had the decent indication to get a job (any job tbh). Also those guys who attempted to steal your DS were stupid but the people who stood by and looked at you were stupider they could've stood up for you and I'm guessing there are more people on the transit you were in than the group of people who wanted to take your DS so you could've overpowered them. Its good to know that you are safe and not dead. Its also good to know that you still have your DS. However, those who are reading the thread please think, not ALL people of African descent are thieves, pimpd, murderers. Its the society that we live in that force them to do that, its the media where we let convicts/drug addicts/ depressed people act as our medium. (If you feel offended, I apologize)

Back on topic, lets not bring electronics to public areas to decrease our chances of it taken away/broken.

I just wanted to post something down because this topic really got to me. People can say that they would stand up to thieves like that but we should remember that things are easier said than done. If an intimidating person had attempted to steal from me, I would be scared to death. No matter how much I would have wanted to defend myself and my possessions, I would be paralyzed in fear and wouldn't be able to do so. There is always that possibility that you just have that natural and powerful instinct to defend yourself, and that is great, but I guess I'm not one of those people and I doubt I am the only one. Last point to get out, like many people have said so already, glad that you are physically okay (not sure about mentally/emotionally, I sure wouldn't be), and you got lots of heart!
