Tee-hee Don't you love people that think their opinions are facts? I bet you're religious too!Â
I'm just always right

Ok here is a less biased version of what jaysonguy posted availed by someone who currently works for RARE:
When Nintendo first invested in Rare they only purchased about 15% of the company, and probably only paid about $20,000 to do it. After that, whenever the Stampers wanted more money, they would sell another little chunk of the company to Nintendo at their (ever increasing) regular market value. Nintendo eventually ended up owning 49% of the company. When Rare's stock value hit about $500 million ($250 of which belonging to the Stampers), the Stampers thought Rare's stock had gone about as high as it could go, so they decided to take their winnings and cash out before the price went down. They didn't want to sell 2% of the company to Nintendo for some more chump change, lose control if the company (not even to Nintendo), and then watch their $250 million slip away for some reason they had no control over. So they offered to sell the company outright to Nintendo. Nintendo was not interested in paying approximately $250 million to keep Rare, and asked Rare to find other buyers. For reference, at about the same time, Yamauchi set up a fund called Fund Q using $200 million of his own money and loaned it to small developers to get them to publish Cube games. Even the loan of this kind of money was enough to even secure Square support on the GameCube. Also, control of Retro was bought out for a mere 1 million dollars, but it's unknown how much money Nintendo spent setting up the studio (Nintendo was footing the bills before and after the buyout). The Stampers received offers from at least Microsoft and Activision (yeah, the **** who recently canned Goldeneye XBLA because Iwata didn't like it), and went with Microsoft's offer to buy 100% of the company, including the IP's, for $375 million. The Stampers bought Nintendo's 49% and sorted out/bought all their IP's back from Nintendo for $100 million (on credit), and then sold the whole bundle to Microsoft, making $275 million for themselves. In a completely unrelated story, one month after selling their stake in the UK developer, Nintendo was fined approximately $100 million by the European Union for NES-era price fixing. The Stampers took paying jobs for Microsoft and ran Rare for four years before leaving to "pursue other opportunities", but AFAIK no new startup company has been announced.

That was the saddest story ever told. The only thing that could have made this saga any sadder would be if the Stampers had then killed a kitten.Â

They have the best platformer this generation, that's something going their way.

You must be kidding, or really biased. Anyway, I'll take your opinion but disagree completely. Rare lost their touch long ago and they are not aligned with Microsoft's platformHeheh yes, Conker on the Nintendo 64, I've never played it but I've been a bit interested.
Though I would love to see another Donkey Kong adventure that was similar to Donkey Kong 64. Jungle Beat was a great game, but it was too short.

Jason Guy Why do you even go on the wii boards all i ever see you doing is arguing or saying stuff you know will cause strife and start an argument. or just being down on any ideas the wii people have can you at least go on the other boards and voice your opinions i dont know about all these other people but your starting to get really annoying to mein relationship to all this talk about Rare's demise and rise (I guess you can call it a slight rise with the BK:N&B's being good),
I wouldn't be surprised if Retro ended up in a similiar situation in the next few years. Many people that made Retro what we know and love have left the company. I hope not, but if the people that left had a huge influence (which they did) on the games, and if they can't find replacements that can create the same quality Metroid games...I fear for the worst.
It's Rare all over imo, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were sold as well.
I wonder if this is a trend from Nintendo????
No one in their right mind could say that they have played a better platformer this gen than super mario galaxy...its a complete game unlike banjo kazooie and ratchet and clank (which are both great games but not at the level of super mario galaxy)
I agree. All jason guy seems to do is trash talk the ps3 and the wii and support his system of choice (360)...jason guy stick with system wars maybe you will meet some friends that will keep ur biased soul happy...No one in their right mind could say that they have played a better platformer this gen than super mario galaxy...its a complete game unlike banjo kazooie and ratchet and clank (which are both great games but not at the level of super mario galaxy)

I'm not agreeing with JaysonGuy, but it really is all opinion (including yours). I'm not bashing SMG, or BK:N&B (never played it, so I can't), but still.....it's debatable.
This is like comparing two fan favorite movies of the same genre, say horror. There will always, always...be two groups of people that love each individually.
Besides...(excuse me if he has), but has Jayson Guy ever said he holds the 360 above everything?
[QUOTE="TheColbert"][QUOTE="Jaysonguy"]How is Rare in a better place? Compared to some of the games they have made recently, I would say with Nintendo they were making higher quality titles. That ship sailed a long time ago
Rare is in a better place now

I have not played BKN&B so i am not sure. Banjo Tooie is my favorite platformer so I am not surprised it is good.[QUOTE="clicketyclick"][QUOTE="SER69"] ????? Super Mario Galaxy.SER69Don't get him started again. Just read the recent pages in the off-topic discussion thread in this here forum. Oh I C , well I never played B&KN&B, but it seems to me from videos that it can hardly be considered a platformer. But I guess it's all opinion, so whatever. QFJaysonGuy
