IGN reviews games based on how it did when it was fresh. GS reviews them by today's standards.. don't be surprised if they give it an 8.5 or even lower.

stop being a fanboy... they rate them based on todays standards which I believe is the way they should do it... you are paying for it to play it in 2007 not 1996 or whenever it was released.

Also i think they are going to give all wii games low scores cause none have online (yet) and 4 every game that doesnt have online they put it in the bad

i will admire gs for not giving Oot a 10. ign is full of fanboys who remembered playing the classics back in the old days that they will give inflated game review scores. the truth is, Oot isn't the best zelda game anymore. tp is basically oot but for this gen.

I don't even think OoT was the best Zelda. As much as I loved OoT, I felt Link to the Past was (and still is on my VC) just an amazing game. I think GS should only review the translation. is it faithful to the original copy? does it play smoothly and are all the sounds and music restored? I think anyone knows a game from 2 consoles ago isnt going to measure up to Gears of War or what have you. For $5-10 what do you expect?
    Dude, has anyone seriously played OOT on Wii? I mean, everything is so....so CRISP! When you see the cutscene when the Greak Deku Tree gives you the medallion your jaw will just DROP! Perfect audio, perfect visuals, perfect splash effects. This isn't Master Quest, but this is OOT in its truest, non-compressed form. I wish I could shoot a video on how rain looks or how all the enemies look like they had their jaggies removed. I played on a 480i television with normal cables (because Nintendo has the good ones back-ordered again) and I do attest that everything about the game just feels fresh. A perfect 10 this game never was, but a 9.3 would leave me happy!
A great game is always a great game regardless of when it was released. I personally think that Ocarina is even better than Twilight Princess.
However, ign doesn't review games the same way GS does, so while it's a 10 there, I'd think maybe an 8.5 here. Super Mario 64 got that same score treatment here. GS reviews by today's standards as a user here pointed out, and I hope that clicks with some users here. I really don't want to see another "ZOMG ONLY 8.8!!!?!?!?" thread ever again that relates to Zelda.

Oh Ocarina of Time is superb for sure, but I'm just worried about fanboys going crazy again. It probably won't be as big as what happened with TP, I think the game's a 9.3 myself, but some people actually spent all day complaining. I know it's a great game, and I don't need a review to tell me that. I'd buy it regardless.

When you review the game the way IGN did, I find it a bit weird that it got a 9 in sound.. But yeah, nice, nonetheless. OoT should never get a score below 10, no matter when you review it. Games should be reviewed from when they was made. Not like GameSpot reviews VC games. This is why I couldn't care less what score GameSpot gives VC games.

we have our opinions as well as they do. TP is not the OoT of this gen (IMO)

technically speaking yes. but we have all seen most of the things in TP. its all been done before. all TP wanted to be was OoT all over again.
It better not get a 10. I don't even think it deserved a 10 when it first came out. It's NOT the best game ever, and I don't think it ever will be IMO. But whatever, the bandwagon got what they deserved...
The fact that the stone doesn't rumble is bull. Playing my ROM, the stone didn't rumble and I still got all 20 hearts. The game has horrid graphics by today's standards, but the rest of the game holds up amazingly well. Every Zelda game after this is pretty much a carbon copy. Can you even name a Zelda game that is different then this? Majora's Mask sort of is, but Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are the same. Even the GBC and GBA ones after Ocarina follow its pattern. Another thing is Link to the Past. It truly isn't better, only because of its length. Replaying the game 15 years later without a guide, I beat the game in 15 hours, with all upgrades and hearts. Ocarina took me 35. That, to me, shows a better experience, since I hardly stopped.
That is one good rating. I think I will get this game as soon as I get a classic controller. Sorry to say, but this is going to be my first time playing this game!! Woo Hoo!! :D

Thats the best response I seen in this thread. Finally, someone givin credit to one of the best SNES games. I cannot say if OoT is better, because I've never played it. But Link to the Past is my favorite game of all time. Next to Twilight Princess.
Its all a matter of personal opinions but the truth is, OOT is still perfect, and my personal opinion its that this game is still my best game of all time. A link to the past and TP are wonderful games but nothing like OOT to me.
OoT on the VC looks great, sounds great and plays perfectly. I played the original back on the N64, and its still a great game. However, I must side with the Twilight Princess fans. OoT was the original 3d Zelda, but TP has much tighter controls and a better camera system. TP's environments are larger and give you a lot more to explore. Also, Midna is nowhere near as annoying as Navi. But both are Zelda games, and therefore are freaking awesome...I've yet to experience a bad, or even nearly good, Zelda game. Wii is the ultimate Zelda platform...Zelda1, LttP, OoT, Wind Waker, and TP!
