I'd kill to be able to take some Just Cause with me on the go. El_Zo1212oI had to giggle at the irony :P Anyway, the only open-world game I liked was Scarface: The World Is Yours. I found it much better than Grand Theft Auto (though there was an F-bomb every 5 words) but there is only an extremely slight, unlikely chance of it ever getting a 3DS version :(
The DS had a few open world games on it, so I'm sure the 3DS will get some too.
One open world game coming to the 3DS (and Wii-U) that I'm watching is Lego City Stories, which basically seems like Lego Grand Theft Auto and it's being published by Nintendo. It's supposed to be coming out on both systems later this year.
There were also 2 other open world games announced. One was a Saints Row open world game for the 3DS (and XBLA/PSN), but unfortunately it was cancelled on all platforms by THQ. And I'm sure you probably already know about MegaMan Legends 3 and its "cancellation".

This looks cool. Problem w/ Lego games though is they tend to make 'em a little too easy so let's hope that doesn't happen.
Lego City StoriesJollyGreenOneI sure hope that's the name for a minecraft style lego game... Saint's Row: Drive by would have been cool, but before it was cancelled, I remember hearing something that made me worry it wouldn't be open world.
Look at this:

I own it, it's not amazing but it's far from lame, and it shows that a GTA game could have (and still MAY) work quite well on the platform as apposed to the top-down view of "Chinatown Wars".
:)
As should every red blooded, meat eating American.Just cause on the go... I popped a boner.

Something I'd worry about is the physics and stuff. One of the reasons JC2 was so great was because of all the ridiculous stunts you could pull off with little effort. At the very least they'd need to keep that and destruction intact.

To tell you the truth, my favorite thing about JC2 was the grappling hook+parachute combo. Even the stunting came in second to the ability to scale the world and sail over it. Next came the variation in the world- jungles, swamps, beaches, cities, even the oil rigs. Not to mention the hidden locales and the underground chem weapon facilities. I suppose the physics might be important when parachuting, but I'd forgive a LOT to have an open world as varied as JC2's on the go.[QUOTE="JollyGreenOne"]Lego City StoriesEl_Zo1212oI sure hope that's the name for a minecraft style lego game... Why just a knock off? we should hope notch sees the market....(very unlikely but we can hope)

Because I recently became a fan of the series and remembering this getting cancelled made me sad. So I wanted to share my sorrow with everybody.
